An Unexpected 2nd Rounder?

Take a look from 2:11-2:48, then again to 3:48-4:05, then again 4:17-4:33, THEN again from 6:26-6:50 and finally 7:06-7:36. All of those segments plus some more worthy candidates in this highlight real make Chase Coffman, TE out of Mizzou, a very interesting prospect indeed. If you didn't click on that link, what basically summarizes the 22 year old's career is a very big man (6'6" 245 lbs) making 247 career catches for 2,659 yards, and 30 touchdowns. So why would we need this guy and how much would he cost? Well, as many of you now know Heath Miller is entering the final year of his contract. I know I speak for a lot of people in saying that I want to see this guy back in Black and Gold. But if Miller wants more money, Coffman is a suitable replacement. To be honest, it was my old man who brought this guy to my attention. He said on a sports network (he says it was the NFL Network) that the analysts thought Coffman a great pick for us in round 2. I had heard of Coffman's talent, but wasn't really interested in drafting any more tight ends. Here, is the NFL's official scouting notes on him with a great video located on the right-hand side of the page. If you look down to whom Coffman is compared to, the scouts at NFL.com think he's very similar to Heath Miller.

"Compares To: HEATH MILLER, Pittsburgh -- Whether used in the classic tight end position or in motion, one thing is evident - Coffman has the natural hands and RAC ability to gain big yardage once he gets the ball in his hands. He has outstanding size, arm extension and balance to go along with good strength to break tackles. He shows great body control adjusting to off-target throws and flashes good aggression as a blocker. With Martin Rucker having graduated, Coffman emerged as the team's featured target in 2008 until he was injured late in the year. The foot surgery has set back his workouts for teams, making it possible that he will be drafted lower than his scouting report indicates."

So many of you are probably wondering, well, what if Heath Miller does resign? What then? Well then I'd say we have two of the most well-rounded TE's in football. Not only can Hoffman catch but he also flashes a knack for blocking as well (see above link to NFL.com). Though I don't see him as good as Miller, and I still stand by what I put in my recent mock draft, Coffman could be a more than suitable alternative in the 2nd round with benefits being provided in both the passing and runing game.
