BTSC 2009 Community Mock Draft- Pick #23 by the New England Patriots: Vontae Davis, CB, Illinois
The BTSC Mock Draft carries on with me selecting in the place of an absent participant for the New England Patriots. I'm saving the commentary in the interest of time. Next up? The Atlanta Falcons, represented by Atlanta area resident WolfPackSteelersFan. -Blitz-

I
I dissagree. With the free agents they’ve brought in (and somehow passed on by the Steelers) and their penchant for picking corners up in the middle rounds I think they think they’re set there for now, at least as far as needing to pick up a first rounder. I might have agreed before last year, but since Billy finally showed he isn’t afraid of picking backers in the first or second round I think he’d prefer one of the supposedly top-class ones available at their pick.
It is, of course, opinion based, but I’d-a gone with Laurinaitis.
As it’s been said before: BPA doesn’t ignore need or weakness totally.
could be
I can see Belichick being intrigued by a guy who loves the game like him who’s also fairly football savvy.
Howver, S. Springs is 34 years old, and Ellis Hobbs will be a free agent in 2010 and will probably command big bucks. I wouldnt say CB isnt a positional need for NE – it is, maybe just not in 09 when Davis wouldnt be expected to do TOO much anyway on a competitive team like New England. A LB would be a solid pick too though.

Patriots could go a lot of ways
They have a lot of needs and a lot of picks in the first two rounds. A young CB is a legitimate pick here especially since Davis has great potential. BB isn’t afraid to go after dubious character. They could also be looking at LBs Clay Matthews and Connor Barwin or DE Jarron Gilbert here as a future replacement for Seymour. Davis is as good a choice as any in this spot.
Darius Butler, UCONN
Belichick attended UCONNs ProDay, and he never goes to pro days. That being said, of the three main prospects at UCONN, Butler is the one I see him being most intrigued by. He is a reverse Troy Brown, CB/Return Man with some WR ability. If he doesn’t go here and he is available at the end of the round, I see them taking him with 2.2. Of course, if he is around, I would like to see him on the Steelers.
The pat's pass defense
was a bit suspect last year, I’d say it’s an area of need.
Also, too bad guys who selected teams are dropping out of the mock.
been pretty good attendance
Gonna have to pull the plug quicker this next week so we can get to Pittsburgh at #32 before Friday evening. Haven’t seen much of the next guy up so we’ll see.
