With the 79th Pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers select Kraig Urbik
The Steelers have used the first of their three 3rd Round picks on an offensive lineman. They selected Kraig Urbik, OT, Wisconsin. His overview from the NFL Scouting Combine:
Overview
Wisconsin offensive linemen have earned their reputation among NFL teams as tough, smart football players. The huge, agile Urbik is just another example. The two-time second-team All-Big Ten honoree has started at right guard and tackle during his career. That versatility is not lost on scouts. In a strong class of interior linemen, Urbik is among those fighting to crack the first three rounds. Had an arm span of 33 3/4 inches and a hand span of 10 1/4 inches at the combine.
This is a fantastic pickup by the Steelers. Urbik has the size to play Tackle, and the experience. But he's also versatile enough to play Guard, and it's not at all unlikely that thats where he'll earn his keep in the National Football League. More analysis to come but be pleased guys and gals. Mike Maycock and others had this kid as a top 5 G in this year's draft at various points throughout this entire pre-draft process.

Go Steelers. Welcome Kraig Urbik!

The 3rd round pick..
The kid is our type of lineman. He can play all over the line. I love the pick. Bolsters a need.
Wisconsin
produces solid OL men like Penn St. produces LB’s.
I read a few fan posts from the Patriots fan base
and there was a lot of discussion that Bill Bellicheat had his eye on this guy in the late 3rd round (compensatory pick). So it’s doubly satisfying to get a solid pick and to take one away from the Pats.
Offensive lineman from Wisconsin in the middle rounds?
Well, we had a fella named Webby who did a pretty good job after getting picked in the fifth round of the 1974 draft.
Good luck and welcome aboard, kid. You’ve got some big shoes to fill.
:)
won’t happen, but like your mind set.

Love it.
This is a great pick for us. Fills a need with a quality player.
"Whaddya' mean all the beer is gone..?
Good Pick
I agree he very well could be the next all-star O-lineman. He has the size the and the strength to excell in the NFL. But it will take time just like when we drafted Roethlisberger. He will sit the bench untill he proves that he is the starter, or until some one screws up. this could be good for him tho, he could learn from the starters mistakes and proceed in becoming the starter. But anyway i hope he sits the bench all year(not in a bad way) so he can learn from the older guys.
