With the 241st Pick of the 2009 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers Select David Johnson, TE, Arkansas State

The Steelers seem to love tight ends and it seems like they draft one every year , this time they selected David Johnson from Arkansas State with the 241st selection.  Johnson is an H-back/ Tight End prospect that ran a 4.7 in his 40 time at the combine.  Scouting reports have Johnson as a solid blocker who lacks great hands but could become a potential hybrid style tight end.

NFL.com says:

Johnson's statistics did not put him on any All-American teams, but his 22 receptions in 2008 went for 356 yards (an excellent 16.2-yard average) and five touchdowns and he did make second-team All-Sun Belt. The combination of his blocking and receiving skills is what puts him among this year's best senior H-back prospects.

More likely to become a FB type..

…like Sean McHugh. Johnson has a rep as a very good blocker, and given his size figures as a backfield blocker and checkoff pass receiver. But the guy averaged over 16 YPC during his college career. That is better than most, if not all the top WR taken in this draft.

I feel like BA is some TE addict like Mark Renton in Trainspotting.

Scene

BA: Give me a shot of TE, com’on man I need just a shot of TE. Please you know I am good for it! Please give me a shot.

Hopefully they use this guy and/or Frank the Tank as a lead blocker

I really liked this pick. He can block and he could also be dangerous with the ball in his hands. Not sure if he’ll make the team, but I like it when they take flyers on players like this. The presence of a good lead blocker could make a big difference in our running game this year.
