Air Holmes Report: The Draft

If any of you watch college football, you know I'm talking about Graham Harrell. The guy won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award given to the top senior QB in college football. He was 4th in Heisman voting. He makes all the NFL throws and his team was ranked was #2 for the last part of the year. Now, I know we still have injury prone Batch and rising Dixon, but why not add 1 more back-up?

I've looked over the drafts and I have to say, Detroit made some great 1st round picks. They got their leader. They gave him a great TE for him  to throw to along with Calvin Johnson at WR. But, you can't pass up Rey Maulauga for Louis Delmas. Here is what their draft could have been if they kept all their picks starting in the 2nd round to the 5th:

Round 2:

Rey Mauluaga.

Round 3:

Louis Vazquez

Derrick Williams (they actually made this pick and now Stafford has 3 good recieving options)

Round 4:

No pick because Detroit traded its 2009 fourth-round selection (101st overall) and its 2008 third-round selection to Dallas for its 2008 third-round selection (92nd overall, used to select Cliff Avril). Which was a good deal because Avril led the league in sacks for a rookie.

Round 5:

Scott McKillop.

You guys can finish it, I don't have time. I'm going to write a post about Denver's great draft soon.

I voted false because it’s a statement, not a question, so I got confused.

Graham Harrell

Does NOT make all the throws. He would have been drafted if he could. Harrell finished 4th in Heisman because he was putting up ridiculous numbers in one of the most pass heavy offense in NCAA Football, and it happened to be working for Texas Tech. Most of his throws were in the shotgun spread offense, not under centre, and they were designed for him to simply throw the short —> intermediate routes to receivers who had heaps of space to get YAC. He was also terrible in the game against Oklahoma, where he crumbled against a better D.

Detroit were wrong to pick Stafford #1 IMO, he wouldve been a late first-2nd rounder in last years draft, and i dont think hes polished enough to warrant that pick (had under 60% completion rate!!). They also had a chance to take Michael Oher who couldve protected Stafford, instead they took a TE. Its fine to have another option to throw to, but if he doesnt get the time needed to throw, its a waste.

I also think they were smart to pass on Maualuga, he plays too carefree, he is not good against the pass, and he lacks proper blitzing technique that hell need at the NFL level. I think you can attribute his hype to the fact he had two absolute motors on either side if him in Cushing and Matthews. Delmas was a good pick for a team that struggles badly in pass coverage. They added Julian Peterson which made LB less of a priority

I wouldnt rate Detroits draft in the top 10, nor would i rate the Broncos one up there either

Sleeper back-up QB

we signed udrfa Mike Reilly of Central Washington. keep an eye on this guy once camp rolls around. check out his numbers at Central Washington. Jaworksi thinks he has what it takes to make a roster in the NFL, he’s sold on Reilly. Time for the Steelers to inject young talent into the back-up QB spot.
