Flyin' Hawaiian?
According to the Pittsburgh Tribune the Steelers are looking at free agent wide reciever Ashley Lelie and talking to his agent about a contract. Lelie from down the freeway in Bellflower CA attended Hawaii. Steeler fans might remember him as a Denver Bronco who caught a long TD pass in the AFC Championship in 2005 drawing Denver closer.
With the Steelers drafting Wallace, and Sweed and Baker and Nance on the roster I wonder if the Steelers are just talking to Lelie or they are really interested. It's possible the Steelers FO isn't as enamored with Nance and Baker as some on this thread. If they sign him (I don't see how with little cap room) that would be the case. Link below. Thoughts?

I hope not...
Lelie never struck me as a Steelers type player. Let these young guys have a shot. But veteran depth does breed competition, which Tomlin loves.

I think Lelie would be a good 3rd receiver with Ward and Holmes. Certainly more accomplished than Sweed with a playoff TD against the Steelers. He caught it. Sweed has certainly proved nothing other than he can drop TD passes in 2 playoff games in a row. But NY, maybe you’re right. I’m just not high on Limas so maybe I’m trying to get high on some Hawaiian?

Limas has proved he can get open
He seperates well, which is more difficult, I’ve been told. Never played WR. Maui Wowie? If that was his nick name, Santonio and I’d be on it.

Very tempting
I think I’ve run the course on MAry J jokes though.

True that, this is just a token.

You don't have to be so
blunt about it.

Lelie? No, thanks,
I don’t like guys who aren’t willing to compete for their positions.

Might not be a bad pickup
Lelie’s never really had a good QB, the best being Jake Plummer. He could be a great deep threat if he shows that he wants it.

Maybe?
Just because hes never lived up to his 1st rd status as a # 1 or #2 starter, doesnt mean he cant replace a small school free agent as a #3. He actually seems a perfect fit for Nates 4- 5 go routes per game, hes big enough to block, and could be hungry. If hes a guy whos not that into football, they can cut him. In the past teams have brought him in,who really needed a starter. Here he’ll be battling for a job and he’ll have to win it. They dont need him enough to overpay then hope and wait on his potential.

I agree. I just don’t know if the FO is comfortable with Sweed, Baker and Wallace as our 3-5 WR’s. At least Lelie has shown some ability in his career even if he hasn’t lived up to expectations. I know he caught a playoff TD against the Steelers in 05. As yetti stated above Lelie has had Plummer and other low rent QB’s throwing to him not Unitas.
That said, while I would like to add him to the roster, I don’t see how they will be able to afford him by signing all of the draft picks and having money left to sign Lelie.

ehh. He was awesome at UH, but even then showed some attitude issues. It was nothing big, but if he was open, and didnt get a look, he was visibly irritated, and if it happened too often, he became somewhat disinterested.
Seems a bit similar to his pro career, although he has had more injury problems, as well as the shitty team thing.
I hope it is not too late, but I would very much like to see what becomes of him playing behind Ward, with Ben throwing to him, and Tomlin coaching him.
