The BTSC Get To Know You Thread
So I've been reading all the comments around lately in all the new fanposts that have been published, and was thinking "God its great to see BTSC grow so much". Now I myself have only been here since early January of this year, but I can already say that the site has seen an increase of internet traffic, and with it I've had some great conversations with some great Steeler fans. So for the more seasoned guys of BTSC, it may be different to you, but i think we all have an idea of the main patrollers of the BTSC site.
So i had an idea. I dont know how it will take off, but you never know until you do it.
So here it is, the Behind the Steel Curtain Get to Know You Thread
Post in here answers to the following questions, and any others of your own that you want included, or have often pondered about other members here.

Steeler Questions
8) Whos your favourite current Steeler and why? (can be more than one)
9) Who is your favourite all-time Steeler, and why?

Steeler_
The reason for my screen name as Steeler_ is what I get called at school, hence why i wanted to have my screen name as close to the spelling of Steeler as possible. Im always talking NFL, Steelers etc, so the name rubbed off :)
1) Michael Hewitt
2) Wellington, New Zealand
3) 20
4) Student at University, studying BSpEx, which is Sport and Exerice. Focussing on being a Physical Trainer
5) Believe it or not, coming from NZ, I actually have played football. There used to be an 11 on 11 league, where you played both ways.
6) I played mainly WR, being 6’2’’ and quite fast
7) If i could play in the NFL, I would love to be a pass rushing OLB. I love watching the QB get sacked, its the biggest rush for me to watch.
8). My favourite Steelers are Big Ben Roethlisberger and Lamarr Woodley
Big Ben just never dies, he never gives up and he never gives anything below 110%. He is the best QB in the league to watch, and will go down in history as one of the gutsiest and toughest QBs ever
Lamarr Woodley is just a beast. I am so high on this guy. He is an absolute motor and i hope to see him in Black and Gold forever.
9) My favourite all time Steeler is Jack Lambert. I wasnt born when he played, but Ive seen him in so many interviews, seen so much game highlights of him and i just wish i couldve seen him live. He was such a force on the field, and one of the most intimidating players to ever wear a NFL uniform.
10) My best Steeler memory to date is the Superbowl just passed. XLIII. I love Big Ben and Lamarr, and i got to see both my heroes make their signature plays of the game, and it was even more special than XL, because Ben shook the monkey off his back. Santonios catch will be tattooed in my mind for a long time
BLITZBURGH IS BACK
Great Idea Mike
1)Braden Taylor
2)Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
3)22
4)Student at University of Ottawa
5)I played Highschool and a rec league when I was younger
6)I started playing running back then I moved to outside linebacker in HS since we had a really good RB.
7)Now if I played in the NFL I would probably be a WR since Im 6’3" and skinny as hell
8)Farrior, Harrison and Miller, theyre all beasts
9)All time Id probably say Bettis, I loved power backs since I tried to be one when I was younger and just run em over.
10)Best memory has to be this seasons final drive. I was also a huge fan of the goal line stand against the Giants this season.
LayintheWoodley
1) Grant Skidmore
2) Hamilton,VA
3) 25
4) Automotive
5) I played from age 7 (flag football) all the way through my senior year of highschool, before joining the Marine Corp.
6) Offense: Center, Defense: DE, I’m a bit of a big dude 6’3 240lbs
7) If I could play in the NFL I would either be a DE again or an OLB, pass rushing specialist, but still very blue-collar
8) Aaron Smith, the unsung hero of the best D in the NFL. Goes to work with a total lunch pail attitude, deserves the pro-bowl but gets snubbed every year by more glamorous players, and after what he dealt with this year with his son and even making it public proved how strong of a man he really is.
9) All time favorite Steeler would be between Lambert and “Mean Joe”. So I am going to go with Mean Joe Greene, I was far too young to ever watch the man play live, but I have watched alot of film and just the raw intensity in which he played was flat out amazing, and makes me wonder just how amazing and dominant he could be in todays game (minus the rules).
10) My best memory to date has to be Ben to Tone on " The Catch". It hopefully silenced all of Ben’s critics as an elite QB, and hopefully opened up an entire realm of possiblities for Santonio and his bright future.
By the way love the whole idea for this thread.

8) Hines Ward, how could you not like this guy his attitude and love for the game make you really enjoy watching him
9) I always liked Greg Lloyd and Levon Kirkland, they were the guys when i first started watching and really paying attention to the games
10) As a Steeler Fan in Indiana i would have to say my best memory was when the Colts beat our Steelers in the regular season before SB XL, and we went back to Indy on our way to the Championship and whipped their ass

9. TB – I love that hick. He’s great.
10. My fondest memory of the Steelers is the 8 game win streak capped off with SB XL in Detroit. (Did you know Jerome Bettis was from Detroit?) I didn’t miss a game that season, but I wont deny that my hopes were low as we started the last quarter of the regular season. But goddamn what a rush that streak was. So many great games.
Guns don't kill people. Lamar Woodley kills people.

9) Gots to be Jerome! Haven’t been around that long to know the classics, but I like Bleier and Lambert.
10) Best memory?? wow tough to choose. I’ve been to 7 games (5-2) and plan 2-3 more this season. A cool one was me and my dad just randomly deciding to drive 11 hours to Nashville the day before the game this season. Somehow he knew people and had connections so we got on field passes and were in the LP suite. Only thing was that they lost but still awesome in itself.
I don't know how to put this... but I'm kind of a big deal lol, People know me

9) Who is your favourite all-time Steeler, and why?
Hines Ward
10) Your best Steeler memory to date and what made it so special?
2005 Postseason – It was just magical. The bengals game was so huge because they had beat us earlier in the year and TJ wipe the towel on his shoes, although i wish palmer wouldn’t have gotten hurt – so those bungels fans wouldn’t be crying saying if he didn’t they would have won,
then the indy game – I couldn’t even watch it!!!! – I was at Christain Student Conference in atlanta and I was in some workshops, I’d go peak at the game and saw we was up in the 4th quarter ball on the goal line and the bus was on the field – game over right!!! Wrong – next time I got a chance to look back Mike V was kicking for the game winner!! That game was so huge because he had gotten blown out way earlier in the season we were major underdogs.
Then Denver I was watching it with my friends who were haters and Ben lit them up!!! And the super bowl win capped it off – first in 16 years!!! No more listening to oh what have the steelers done lately talk. Its so great.

2) Where you come from?

3) Age?

4) Current Job/Occupation?
Warrant Officer stationed at FT Indiantown Gap PA (by Harrisburg)
I was a Captain, but realized that I hated Officers and took a reduction, best move ever!
5) Have you ever played football? (HS, College etc)
I walked on my Military College team after the coach saw me covering the school’s #1 reciever in a pick-up game. I played three practices at Strong Safety until I hit a 250lb TE going over the middle “Ryan Clark Style”, the 250lb TE got right back up…. I didn’t, and realized that my Army scholarship would be best served off the football field.
6) What position did you play?
Strong Safety
7) If you could play football, explain what position you would want to play
Not Strong Safety, Punter maybe or Place Kicker, definitely not Strong Safety!
Steeler Questions
8) Whos your favourite current Steeler and why? (can be more than one)
It is so hard to pick just one, so I’ll do one offense one defense.
a. Gotta love Hines and his physical brand of play, nothing beats seeing that smiling face after a big first down or as he walks away from a 250lb LB he just de-cleated.
I’ve been on the Silverback bandwagon since he was an UFA and I saw limited action during his first preseasons, the guy hit so hard and shed blocks so easily, I remember pointing my earlier praise out when he caught that int vs San Diego and hurdled LT as a backup.9) Who is your favourite all-time Steeler, and why?
I have to go with Greg Lloyd, the guy was/is a beast. He was so much fun to watch as a teenager, and I will neve forget seeing Brett Farve walking to the bench with Blood pouring out of his nose during a preseason game after Lloyd sacked the bejesus out of him, my favorite two memories of him was when he bloodied up Niel O’Donnel after he went to the Oilers (or was it the Jets), and the other one is in my signature below.
10) Your best Steeler memory to date and what made it so special?
My best Steelers memory was coming home on mid-tour leave from Iraq to watch my beloved Steelers win the Superbowl (XL) on my brand new suprise Christmas present Big-screen TV. Being able to wear a Steelers championship T-shirt back to Iraq before anyone else could get one was awesome!
"Damnit mom! You almost ran over Greg Lloyd!"
at an autograph signing back in 95. He walked out in front of our minivan, and my mom almost hit him. He apologized.

6) Defensive End
7) If I could play football, I would want to be good enough to make the team, yet not see any playing time. I figure this way I get to travel, I get front row seats to every game to cheer the Steelers on, make decent money, and not get my body broken : ) !!!
8) I just can’t pick a favorite Steeler. I try, but can make the justification for so many.
9) See answer to 8.
10) My best Steeler memory was actually this past super bowl!!! I think it was because I got to spend it with old friends that I hadn’t seen in years. We were all Pittsburgh natives, and met up in Pittsburgh to watch it.

10. Sadly, the only game I’ve been to was the SD game during our 05’ SB run. Ben went down in the third with a knee injury but we still won and I’ll never forget the feeling I had being surrounded by thousands and thousands of fans in Black & Gold. It was San Diegoburgh at Qualcomm. I ran up to the Chargers’ fan store, paid like 30 bucks for a yellow XXL Chargers shirt, ripped it in half, gave half to my dad and we waved make-shift terribles all night long; eventually winning one for the other thumb. I was a fan before that but it really lit my fire and started my obsession.

If I had to pick a player it would be Ward a true player who emulates the Steeler mentality. Play hard, play physical, and play for that big W.
10. Its not a memory, its a moment. Whenever I see the black and gold streaming out of the tunnel and onto the field my heart speeds up a few beats cause I know our defense is gonna make someones day very bad.

Steeler Questions
8) Favorite Current Steeler is Hines Ward because he personifies the organization
9) John Stallworth by far, by a wide margin. I would spend hours mimicking his leaning catch out-of-bounds. I was actually dumbfounded at the press Holmes got for making his catch in the SB considering Stallworth made it popular by doing it every week.
10) I have 2, the first was Hines Ward standing at the podium balling his eyes out after the loss to the Patriots in 2004 because it was raw emotion for a fellow warrior and not a me… me… I… I… diva moment. the second was when Bettis was standing on the platform, holding the Lombardi, it was a well deserved moment for the Steelers and Bettis alike.

Perhaps we can meet up for some games this season. I’m in Frederick. There’s a good Steeler bar in Gaithersburg MD called ‘Outta The Way Cafe’. it’s about half way between us.

7. Anything; I just love to play…still play pick-up football, when/if I can.
8. My favorite Steeler would probably Mike Tomlin or Hines Ward. I love Tomlin, in fact I gush over Tomlin. It’s unhealthy.
9. All time, perhaps it would still be Hines, his story is quite amazing as far as how he has developed into a future hall of famer, and also Jack Lambert.
10. This years Super Bowl Victory would probably be my favorite although I would of said previously it was Super Bowl XL…watching the “America’s Game” for Super Bowl XL still brings me to tears.

7. If I could, I’d like to be a little slot reciever, at 5’7" my options are limited.
8. Big Troy Polamalu fan, he’s a well grounded but extremely talented guy.
9. All time? I’d love to say Jack Lambert, but since I’ve only seen highlights I’ll go with the guy who brought me into the Black and Gold… The Bus. Grew up watching him at Notre Dame, and as a child I’ll admit I was a Cowboy fan (hey I was like 9, gimme a break). I’m ashamed of my past and very rarely reference it. But it was after the Superbowl loss to Dallas I did something that most thought was ridiculous. I changed allegiences and began to root for the team that lost that Superbowl. When they brought in the Bus that sealed the deal.
10. Superbowl XL, Detroit rock city baby. After the game, Bus with the trophy in his hands. Seeing the look on Cowher’s face when he himself finally got to hold it up… unforgetable. No one deserved it more than those two guys.
Here goes
QUESTIONS:
Basics
1) Whats your name? Tim
2) Where you come from? New York
3) Age? 16
4) Current Job/Occupation? Student
Your football career
5) Have you ever played football? (HS, College etc). The old school yard/back yard football varying from tackle to touch, for the past decade.
6) What position did you play? Wide Receiver most often, but I’ve also played QB and DB.
7) If you could play football, explain what position you would want to play. Wide Receiver. I’ve always loved the feeling of catching the ball and just running wild on secondaries.
Steeler Questions
8) Whos your favourite current Steeler and why? (can be more than one) LaMarr Woodley and Limas Sweed are the two I’m rooting for the most right now but if I had to pick it would be Woodley. Of course I’ve got the utmost respect for guys like Ben, Hines, Deebo, Troy Polamalu, Potsie, Aaron Smith, FWP, and the rest, but those are the two guys I wanna see do well the most.
9) Who is your favourite all-time Steeler, and why? Hmmm tough one. Obviously I wasn’t around to see any of the guys from the 70’s, so I’m gonna be more inclined to pick someone during my lifetime. I’d have to say either Hines Ward or maybe Jack Lambert. They both bring a tough, smash-mouth style of play to the game that is rarely seen.
10) Your best Steeler memory to date and what made it so special? Hmm, it’d have to be 43. That game was unbelievable and had two of the most historic plays to date and was capped off by a Steeler win, making them the most winning-nest franchise in NFL History.
It's true what they say...Even the NFL's Big Wigs hate the Steelers. On the plus side, I can now tell my future grand kids about Hines Ward and how the NFL made rules because of him. Roger Goodell, you make me sick.

2) Where you come from?

3) Age?
Old…. like 38 as of a few days ago.
4) Current Job/Occupation?
Professional squawker: I conduct training for a large software firm.
5) Have you ever played football? (HS, College etc)
Sandlot only. I was active in soccer and volleyball, but I joined in pick-up games when football was the sport du jour.
6) What position did you play?
“Muckle” We didn’t really have organized positions. Mostly I ran at the other guys and blocked them… unless no one was near enough to hit… in which case I turned around and pleaded for a pass from the QB.
7) If you could play football, explain what position you would want to play
TE. 6’2" and 225 lbs. Probably better as a blocking TE as I’m actually quite good at the leverage game.
8) Whos your favourite current Steeler and why? (can be more than one)
Troy, Potsie, and Ward. Each is a great athlete first and amazing at their position second. You never hear about them getting into trouble with the law, unless falling off a surfboard has become illegal.
9) Who is your favourite all-time Steeler, and why?
Still gotta be Troy, but I have a soft spot for Mean Joe. I first became a Steeler fan when I was too young to truly appreciate the sport, but Mean Joe was the guy that left an impression on me.
10) Your best Steeler memory to date and what made it so special?
There are so many… I reserve the right to change my mind at any point in the future, but I’d have to say the second Steeler drive in the last SB. The first drive suggested that our offense could move the ball with impunity. The second was more of the same, only with crazier plays. The ball was passed around everywhere: long bombs, short passes, runs up the middle, the wildcat, and in the middle of it all we had Big Ben’s scramble before finding HEAAAATH. It all ended with us actually pounding the ball into the end zone.

No question, Hines Ward. I LOVE is hard-nosed smash and dash play. I think I’d sat MEAN Joe Greene, but I never saw him play.
Mine is off the field. My friend in the Army had my old Terrible Towel around his arm and he got shot their. The reason why is because a week after we won the SB he was healed. I had just been rotated back because I had been shot in the leg.

Plus, with the collapse of my business in this terrible economy, I am pretty sure nobody is gonna want my identity. I don’t think I could get a line of credit to buy a glass of lemonade. Sick world… thank God we have Steeler football!

QUESTIONS:
Basics
1) Whats your name? Paul
2) Where you come from? Cali’s central valley
3) Age? 18
4) Current Job/Occupation? School
Your football career
5) Have you ever played football? (HS, College etc) With the homies @ the park and such
6) What position did you play? Receiver, Safety
7) If you could play football, explain what position you would want to play. I’d love to be a FS if only I was athletic enough. I love the feeling of picking off a QB, running it back for a pick-6 & crushing their drive. Muahahah
Steeler Questions
8) Whos your favourite current Steeler and why? (can be more than one) Troy Polamalu, hence the screen name simply because he’s a boss, he was meant for the game, and he makes it happen. I also like Heath Miller, because we share birthdays, and he fights for his yards & makes catches when we need them
9) Who is your favourite all-time Steeler, and why? All-time? I’d say Polamalu, everything about him, I idolize, from the hair to the religiousness. He’s an amazing guy.
10) Your best Steeler memory to date and what made it so special? SB 43 I was the only Pittsburgh fan in a room full of Cards fans, and my Steelers did not disappoint. I rubbed it in all their faces after the game. #2 would have to be Polamalu’s pick 6 in the AFCCG.
This is Pittsburgh Steeler Troy Polamalu getting knocked around by the Pacific Ocean in Hawaii yesterday...
Minutes later, Troy caught the ocean going over the middle and smacked it right in the mouth. The ocean fumbled, Troy recovered and ran it into the endzone. The ocean never messed with Troy again.
How the hell did you find a room full of cards fans?
Don't worry about the haters. Haters only hate.

Well
They’re actually Raider fans but they were rooting for the Cards.

Cards fans
Must ahve been a small room, did you watch from a closet.
Fun thread
Well I’ve been here since like probably week 4-5 of this last year. But here a we go.
My name be Andrew
I was born in the Burgh, spent about 9 years there then moved to Detroit area. Still there.
Im 19 and unemployed. Was doing customer service and I do IT also.
Never played any football sadly. But I’d totally play Tight End. Im a big guy, 6’ 3" and got a decent frame. I’d love to have the multi-purpose ala Sean McHugh thing going for me.
Man I always been a FWP fan. Just because I claim to be his first fan ever. Back in madden 05 I believe, the year we went 15-1, he was backup. And I would STILL beat all my friends with him on madden. Pissed everybody off. That year, I made the bold claim “the year Willie Parker starts is the year we win teh SB”
And proof is in the pudding I believe.
Always liked Joseph Peezwald and his mouf fixing projects.
And my best memory had to be watching Jerome Bettis’ last home game in Heinz Field. Being there, watching him score 3 TDs, beating the rather difficult Lions on that day.
Nice thread
1.Tim and I am leaving my last name out so my wife doent know I am jacking around at work.
2. About an hour north of New Orleans, La.
3. 45
4. Lawyer
5-7. Started in HS- Strong safety- too skinny for college. That would be the position I would want to play at any level.
8. Hines Ward- toughest guy on the field every Sunday. Great work ethic, is the type of guy you want your son to be.
9. I can’t say that I have a favorite as there are too many. I think Lambert (absolute aggression personified), Joe Greene (most intense man and an absolute force and could change an 11 man game single handedly),Terry Bradshaw (what a great ambassador for the Steelers and the strongest arm I have ever seen), Swann (grace personified), Louis Lipps (who I played against in high school), Franco (a hero to a generation of fans anda really talented back), Rocky Blier (who can’t like the Rock with his being wounded in Vietnam), Hines Ward, Lloyd (the intensity of Lambert, the body of a Greek god), Donnie Shell (he was overshadowed by Atkinson, but he would hit just as hard and it was all clean), Webster ( a sad end to the best center ever to play the game), BB (just beginning a HOFame career) Joey Porter (who wouldn’t get fired up playing with him?).
10. The Immaculate reception seeing dumb ass Madden walking off in disgust AND the moment the Bus ran out of the tunnel alone in SB XL orchestrated by Joey Porter.
Representing in Louisiana since 1968
1. Chris (I think LaSteeler has a point and I may not want people knowing exactly how much time I spend here)
2. Chicago (obviously)
3. 29
4. Software Project Manager
5. 2 years in HS as a guard/DT. Then I kept getting taller but never got any bulkier.
6. Umm… I forget did I answer this as #5?
7. Today I’d play TE. I’d love to get in on the blocking most of the time, but occasionally use my lanky arms to snatch down a TD.
8. Probably Troy. What he does on the field astounds me every time and I really dig on his attitude and humble nature.
9. Gonna stick with Troy.
10. I’m gonna cheat and give 2.
10a. Beating the Colts in the 2005 playoff run. That game was the most exciting football game I have ever seen. I nearly destroyed a friend’s TV when the ref over-turned the interception.
10b. Most exciting was being at the Dallas game this year. I was standing in the South Endzone watching as the team fought back and when Deshea picked off Romo the entire place went insane. That was fun to be a part of.

3) 21
4) History student at Queen’s University/Writer
5) I’ve only played pickup football; my high school was too small to have a team
6) Cornerback/wide receiver
7) Cornerback’s my favourite position; I love trying to outthink opposing quarterbacks and receivers.
8) My favourite current player would have to be Troy Polamalu. He’s got so much talent and his love for the game is always apparent, plus he hits hard and isn’t afraid to take chances.
9) My favourite all-time player is Mean Joe Greene. I love the intensity he brought to the game and the key role he played in the Steel Curtain defence. I was pretty overjoyed to see the Polamalu remake of his legendary Coke commercial; can’t go wrong with those two guys! However, my favourite character associated with the franchise would have to be Myron Cope: I loved his writing and broadcasting, and the Terrible Towel was a stroke of genius.
10) My favourite memory would have to be this year’s Super Bowl. There were so many great plays, including Harrison’s interception, Roethlisberger’s performance and Holmes’ touchdown catch, and the ending was incredible.

1) Name? – Robert
2) Where you from? – Spokane, WA. Home of Gonzaga basketball.
3) Age? – 48
4) Occupation? – IT Specialist
5) Have you ever played football? – HS
6) What position did you play? – Wide Receiver
7) If you could play, what position? – WR
8) Whos your favourite current Steeler and why?
Big Ben – tough as nails and pure money when it counts.
Troy P. – He’s all over the joint and makes the big plays when needed.
9) Who is your favourite all-time Steeler, and why?
Franco Harris – I’m from Spokane and in 6th grade never had a team to follow. (Seahawks weren’t around until 1976), but I knew I hated the Raiders and Cowboys. I watched highlights of some rookie named Frank O’Harris in pre-season game against the Cowboys and he caught a screen pass and went 70 yards… I was in awe. So, I followed this cool looking team in Black & Gold for the whole season and liked what I saw. Then I watched them play the hated Raiders in the playoffs on TV and actually watched Franco catch the Immaculate Reception and I was hooked. Did a two page report for my 6th grade class. I have been a Steeler fan ever since.
Lynn Swann – I was a WR in high school and I loved watching Swannie make those acrobatic catches. Jerry Rice had nothing on him. If he played with today’s rules he would have been completely unstoppable.
Jack Lambert – Toughest LB I ever saw. A 225 lb light weight playing MLB like a mad man. My favorite Lambert moment was during the SB when he threw Cliff Harris down on the ground for taunting Gerala and ignited the defense to stuff the freakin Cowboys. If Mean Joe was the heart of the Steel Curtain, Lambert was the soul.
10) Your best Steeler memory to date and what made it so special?
When the Steelers drafted Ben Roethlisberger.
Bradshaw taught me a great lesson. You can have a great defense and you can have a killer running game. But, if you don’t have a franchise QB your chances of winning more than one Super Bowl in a period of time is slim to none. Cowher took us to the promised land numerous times (SB and AFC Championship games), but didn’t have the QB to close the deal.
I love watching the NFL draft and when they had the 11th pick I knew they had a shot at him. I was sooooo nervous and was afraid that a team would move up to snatch him away or that he would get taken before Rivers. When the Steeler’s turn came up I was standing up on the couch. When they announced his name I starting screaming and jumping on the couch. My boys ran downstairs to see what I was screaming at!
“No more Bubbys, no more Maddox’s or O’Donnells, no more Stewarts. WE FINALLY GOT US ONE!” I was screaming!
This should be interesting for responses

5. Played football when I was 9-14 years old. Golf took over in highschool during the fall. Way more physical sport.
6. Played DE/LB and TE and special teams, cause I’m special : )
7. I always wanted to play kicker or punter. I don’t know why, but it just seemed cool to get paid to kick a ball. If not that, TE. Love blocking and got decent hands.
8. Ray Lewis because he is the GREATEST linebacker to ever play the game.
9. ^^^^^ See #8 ^^^^^^^^^
10. Big Benigans getting leveled by Bart Scott and after, him saying “That hit hurt more then the motorcycle accident.”

Bart Scott?
Doesn’t he play for the New York Jets…?
This is Pittsburgh Steeler Troy Polamalu getting knocked around by the Pacific Ocean in Hawaii yesterday...
Minutes later, Troy caught the ocean going over the middle and smacked it right in the mouth. The ocean fumbled, Troy recovered and ran it into the endzone. The ocean never messed with Troy again.
Revised Question...
What is your favorite Steeler moment against the Ravens? Hines Ward leveling Bart Scott. Hurt his feelings so bad he had to go on B’more radio and try and repair his devastated ego. He had a WR clean his clock, must have been the joke of the locker room.
On another note, I really respect Ray Lewis and if I was a Ravens fan(thank god I’m not) he’d be my favorite Raven. Bart Scott was just a loudmouth punk that benefited by having one of great LB’s next to him on the field.
Recommendation to Mr MaLor: Don’t use Bart Scott in any attempted Ravens trash talking because he was weak, and a wannabe

Fav Steeler V Ravens moment...
unless I’m horribly mistaken…..we were having a horrible season and Jamal Lewis is about to set the single season rushing record until we play them in the last game….defense holds and keeps him from getting there. Love it.
Oh yeah…ruining The Brow’s fantasy debut year was pretty damn cool too.
Great Idea
I’ve been checking this site out now for about 8 months, but don’t post that much at all, but always wondered about some of these things.
1. Mike
2. Poland, Ohio (near Youngstown)
3. recently turned 23
4. Currently a student at Miami (OH) University
5-7 Never played football for a real team, always soccer (dont hate!), but I play as much as I can with friends
If I ever did play it would have been on the defensive side of the ball so I could hit some people. I played soccer and basketball in HS and I was always the defensive specialist, so I figure I could play Safety or something and keep my own tradition alive
8. My favorite current Steeler is probably Troy Polamalu. I love how he’s all over the place all the time. If I ever did play football I would like to think I could have played it like him, running all over and making great play after great play.
9. My favorite all-time Steeler is probably Rod Woodson. I’ll always remember growing up and watching the Steelers with my Woodson jersey on every Sunday. When Woodson came back from his knee injury in Super Bowl XXX, even though I was only 9 years old, I thought it was awesome. I’m really gonna try hard and be at Canton this summer when he gets inducted into the Hall of Fame.
10. My favorite memory, without a doubt, is the run the Steelers made on their way to winning Super Bowl XL. I was a freshman at college and I vividly remember that Colts game and how insane it was. After they won that one, I thought destiny was on our side and I just continued to enjoy the rest of the ride.
Steeler fan since 1958 here
) Whats your name? Jeff
2) Where you come from? Milwaukee, WI
3) Age? 56
4) Current Job/Occupation? Geologist
Your football career
5) Have you ever played football? Jr high football in the Valley
6) What position did you play? Guard, MLB, played against Rick Skorupan in ninth grade. QB kept dumping the ball over the line to Skorupan (TE), and I grabbed his leg and tried to slow him down. After that game I switched to wrestling; I knew that at 5’ 3" and 135 pounds I’d never be another Rich Saul.
7) If you could play football, explain what position you would want to play MLB, in on the action.
Steeler Questions
8) Whos your favourite current Steeler and why? On offense, Ben. If Hines is the soul, Ben is the heart. On defense, Casey. It all starts with an immovable NG.
9) Who is your favourite all-time Steeler, and why? John Henry Johnson, the most underrated running back in NFL history. Heart of a lion, but played on a lousy team.
10) Your best Steeler memory to date and what made it so special? Easy – Taking my 13 yo son to his first NFL/Steeler game in Green Bay in 05 (half the fans were wearing B&G) and watching him watch the Steelers dominate GB. He had taken quite a bit of heat from his friends for his Steeler fandom; after the SB he told me that a bunch of his friends now said they were Steelers fans, too.
Another fave – sitting in my grandfather’s house with my Dad and uncles watching Steeler games in the 50s and 60s.
My heros have always been Steelers...
my name is robert chavez i live in orange county im 28 i do heating &a/c played plenty of tackle football and dislocated my pinky playin smear the queer but never played in pads since i dropped out of school if i could play i would wanna be like my all time favorite hines wr/rb/qb/db/lb/mini guard after hines my all time fav that ive been able to see play would probably be the bus because i dont think there will ever be a fat man with the moves jerome had ever again my greatest moment as a steelers fan was back in 2000 when we played the raiders i was in prison with nothing but raiders fans that year the raiders were a playoff team we finished like 8-8 but on that day we came back from a 20 to 7 halftime deficit to win 21-20 i think kordell threw 2 tds and ran for another one i know he threw 1 for sure to mark bruener that was the sickest catch i ever seen bruener make becase he was wrapped up but wrestled his way in for the td from like 3 or 4 yards out i think that was the game winner too i won 2 cases of soups off that game …yeah that was a good day

My response should be boring.
Name: Stephen Lorenz
From: Asheville, NC (woot!)
Age: 23
Occupation: a product of the bad economy. I graduated from Western Carolina University in time to NOT get any job for for a history major. So as of right now I’m a cook, sad face.
Football: Never played (with the exception of pick up games), sad face again.
If possible what position: I would be a WR, or CB, or RB, or a scrambling QB. I’m not sure, I just loving running around because people can’t keep up. However, as far as pick up games go I think I’m best as a CB.
Favorite Steelers: I like them all, its hard to pick a certain one. That goes for all-time favorite too.
Favorite memory: its hard to pick just one. My first Steelers game was in 2006 against Carolina at Carolina and that was special. But the latest game at Baltimore (my second game I’ve been to) may have topped that. You can’t beat that Holmes TD.
However, since I can’t pick I’ll just say the 2005 colts-Steelers playoff game, my heart took a beating that game (haha, get it? a beating? nudge nudge wink wink)
shleeve
was at that carolina game in 06. the wife bought me tix 4 rows up from the Steelers tunnel for my B-day. Tone took that punt return to the heezzy and it looked like he was running right at us. My favorite that day was all the towels waving and pissed off carolina kitty fans. You could here the NATION chant “HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO” like it was a game at Heinz Field. F’n awesome. No one does it like the NATION

I'd say at least half were Steelers fans
and by the 4th quarter there were no Carolina fans left. That was a good day.
That Holmes TD was awesome but I think my heart was still hurting from the play before that when he fumbled it. Thank god we got a do-over.
I was in the nose bleeds by the way. Probably 15 rows from the top, could still see everything though.
My first Steelers game
Hey that’s perty durn cool. I was home on leave and went to that one too. Although the season was a wash, we got to see some pretty damn good football from the Steelers that day. I recently got the 2006 DVD to see the highlights of that game – didn’t remember that Harrison had a blocked punt then…how many has he had? Holmes return was great, but ya’ll are right – the fumble before felt like the same old same old that year. Also remember Dick Lebeau yanking up A. Smith for showboating – could have been the most impressive thing I saw that day. We play hard, but with class. Ya’ll thinking about getting to the preseason vs Carolina this year?

8) Fav Steeler: Hines Ward; Even if the play isn’t a 10 yarder or TD he still gets up with that big ol’ grin that says we’ll get them on the flip side.
9) Fav all time: Hines Ward
10) Your best Steeler memory: Deebo in the SB TD, simply terrific.

name: Michael
From: Canton, OH (HOF City)
Age: 39
Occupation: RN, part time gigging musician
Football: Played from age 7-18, all the way through HS. Quarterback and Safety/DB
I would love to be a QB in the NFL, or maybe a defensive back. Trouble is I stunk in HS, so the pros never came calling.
Favorite Steeler Memory: Way to many to name just one, but I would have to say the SB run in ’05, and the comeback win against the Browns in the playoffs, when we were down a whole bunch and came back. My idiotic brother is a Browns and fan called me like five times to rub it in..and that was in the 3rd quarter. Then we pulled out a sweet victory. Great day to be alive….
Favorite current Steeler: Hines Ward. Great heart, great work ethic. great guy.
Favorite of all time: Gotta’ be Bradshaw. I just totally idolized the guy when I was a kid. I cried HARD when he retired. Next would be Jerome Bettis. Can’t wait until he comes to Canton to get inducted! BIG PARTY AT MY HOUSE THAT YEAR AND EVERYONE IS INVITED!

6) CB on D, WR on O
7) CB, love pick six’s and devastating hits
8) Has to be Ben right now, i have never seen a QB pull the houdini shiz that he does. That play to Heath in XLIII…. disgusting escape skills!! There’s way more but too many to mention here. Maybe we should post about Ben’s best plays. He’s a pure winner and I don’t want any other QB ever. I’ll tell you what though, Mikey T is climbing up my favorite list quickly with his communication skills. I almost can’t wait to see/hear the interviews, dude is straight up comical and fires me up man.
9) From a historical perspective has to be Franco, may have single handedly changed the fortunes of this franchise. And to think the Chief was in the elevator at Three Rivers when the immaculate reception happened. I don’t remember much of him from when i was a kid though. So i’d have to say Hines Ward since he’s been the heart of this team for a while.
10) Super Bowl XL, Willie Parker must have felt a lifetime of vindication after that dash to the end zone. Hines was in the air at least 10 feet crossing the goal line. That game took me back home to PA after 15 years of being away. We kept the tradition alive with a trip back to PA for XLIII ! James Harrison, same as Willie, but the most amazing football play i’ve ever seen…you sumbich you!! I’ll be back in PA next FEB too.

8. Lambert, Bradshaw…although I have favorite players, for me it’s about the whole Steeler organization…players will come and go but the organization stays the same!!
9. I have gone to the last 3 SB’s. The last one was truly special…my wife and I went with some neighbors and we spent a couple nights partying…then to actually be at the game and have us win in such dramatic fashion…priceless!!
I guess it's time
I’ve been reading this site since before the beginning of the 2007 season. It’s time that I start giving something back. By the way, I’ll add to the chorus here: Great idea!
Basics
1) Ryan Gross
2) I grew up in Pittsburgh, went to Notre Dame, and now live on the north side of Chicago.
3) 23
4) Software Engineer in Healthcare IT
Your football career
5) I played from the time I was 7 all the way through High School, and then for my first two years at ND, I played in the dorm league (which is still full pads).
6) Free Safety
7) I’d still play free safety, if given the chance. I love the freedom to roam, and reading the QB/Guards to figure out what’s going on.
Steeler Questions
8) I have to say James Harrison, since he moved in a few doors down from the house I grew up in, but also because he really represents what makes the Steelers great. Guys that no everyone else overlooked, who are willing to put in the time that it takes to be the best.
9) I grew up idolizing Rod Woodson. I always wanted to be just like him, and I actually started playing at corner, and then moved over to free safety later on. Then he ended up on the Ravens, which really ruined it for me, so I’ll say Jerome Bettis.
10) My family has had season tickets for as long as I can remember, so there are plenty of contenders. I’ll list my top 5 here:
Superbowl XLIII: Santonio’s catch. We were sitting about 30 rows back in that corner of the endzone, and there was more joy in those stands than I’ve ever seen anywhere.
2003 Playoffs: Tommy Maddox beats the Browns Might be the best comeback I’ve seen.
Superbowl XL: Randle El’s TD Pass This game was waaaay too close for comfort until that play. Afterward, it was all celebration.
2005 Bears Game: Bettis runs over Urlacher for 2 reasons. First, this was the defining moment for the season. Second, every time a Bears fan tries to give me crap for being a Steelers fan I get to tell them that we beat them into the ground before we won the Superbowl.
2005 Playoffs: Cincinnati Game This was my first away game, and I got one helluva a taste of what it’s like to be a fan in a hostile stadium.

Troy – Great player, even better person
Potsie – Under-rated key to the defense
Hines – Gotta love the way he plays the game
9)Jack Lambert – Helped define what it is to be a Steeler
10)There are many from watching the original dynasty in my youth, but I would have to say “The Drive” to win SB 43. Probably because I’m still giddy about it.

QUESTIONS:
Basics
1) Whats your name? Rich
2) Where you come from? All Over (Military) but grew up in CT (Pats territory)
3) Age? 28
4) Current Job/Occupation? Marine Corps Gunny
Your football career
5) Have you ever played football? Four Years in HS, got scholarship to Annapolis to play DB and returner but enlisted instead. I was also a volunteer DB coach at JuCo level, and a HS DB/LB Coach, and was raised by an Oline Coach/DeCoord.
6) What position did you play? I played Flanker, Safety (we only used one I had wheels back then), returner and long snapper. (We only had 400 students and 58 players from grades 9-12)
7) If you could play football, explain what position you would want to play. DB (5’9’’, 185 , I can still hang)
Steeler Questions
8) Whos your favourite current Steeler and why? Troy, if Ronnie Lott and Donnie Shell had a love child, Troy would be the result.
9) Who is your favourite all-time Steeler, and why? Rod Woodson. I was a DB, number 26, wore it and its my favorite number. I knew he was the guy to emulate when he took on a pulling guard, not by diving at his legs, but like a LB, squaring up, shedding and tackling the back for a loss (don’t remember the guard but he back was Dave Meggett of the Giants)
10) Your best Steeler memory to date and what made it so special? My Grandfather is from Homestead, but moved to CT when he got out of the service. Growing up in Pats country and with my three older siblings following my mom and dad as Pats fans, he did not want me to get tainted. Every Sunday for as far back as I can remember, he would “kidnap” me after church and we would watch Steelers games. If none were on, we watched old videos from the 70’s. Watching “the Gazelle” leap people and use the smoothest hands in the biz to pull down catch after catch would make anyone love the Steelers.
Before you ask, My dad is from South Park, PA so I was raised a Steeler fan
1) Whats your name? Rob
2) Where you come from? Dayton, Ohio
3) Age? 42
4) Current Job/Occupation? Government Contractor (that’s all I can tell you)
Your football career
5) Have you ever played football? High School, I was young and dumb. I blew every opportunity I had. I’m kicking myself as I write this. Blah!!
6) What position did you play? Quarterback, Tailback, Tightend, Reciever, KR, PR, Gunner
7) If you could play football, explain what position you would want to play. (you mean now?) I still play QB & WR. I love coaching though!
Steeler Questions
8) Whos your favourite current Steeler and why? (can be more than one) Hines Ward. While I may not have the skill he has I play like him. Whatever it takes to win I’m doing it. He played RB, WR and QB in college. He’s a utlility player used as a WR. And he is the best all around football player in the league in my opinion.
9) Who is your favourite all-time Steeler, and why? Joe Greene – Because I played DE in pee wee football and I modeled my play after him….complete with getting personal fouls. One time I kicked the ref’s flag.
10) Your best Steeler memory to date and what made it so special? The Jets game in 2004 at Heinz Field, where they clinched the AFC North. The one where Bettis threw a TD pass to Jerame Tuman to break a 3-3 tie and then ran one in from 12 yards out later to put it away. It was special because it was the first time my son and I went together to a Steeler game in Pittsburgh (courtesy of a friend in the coaching staff) :)

8. Tie (at the moment) between Larry Foote and Lamarr Woodley Go Blue! Also a huge Aaron Smith fan.
9. All-Time favorite would be Rod Woodson.
10. Watching the Superbowl on my daughters first birthday this year. She waved a TT and yelled “Go” as best she could. Next year we’re working on “Cleveland Sucks” so she can taunt my family from Cleveland.

Man I been there. Picked a good place to get out of… That place scared me a lot.
The more times I’ve been back the more I agree with you.
I was 5 when we left so all I remember was frosty boy and Big Boy. That and how cool it was to live next to train tracks. Also add in I left there and moved to East Liverpool OH, and you can see why I missed Adrian.
I’m still a Michigander at heart though.

one of the great movies of all time...
General “Buck” Turgidson: Doctor, you mentioned the ratio of ten women to each man. Now, wouldn’t that necessitate the abandonment of the so-called monogamous sexual relationship, I mean, as far as men were concerned?
Dr. Strangelove: Regrettably, yes. But it is, you know, a sacrifice required for the future of the human race. I hasten to add that since each man will be required to do prodigious… service along these lines, the women will have to be selected for their sexual characteristics which will have to be of a highly stimulating nature.

6) QB / FS / opposing team’s tackling dummy.
7) WR (the thinking man’s tackling dummy).
8) Casey Hampton; no stats to speak of, but has been the lynch-pin of the league’s best (run) defense for years.
9) Dermontti Dawson. Again, totally under-appreciated even if he was heralded; when was the last time that the best trap-blocking lineman on a team (in the league) was a center.
10) Too many; it is hard to choose. Both Super Bowls (in my lifetime) are clearly quite dear too me. But, I will have to go with the ‘04 season, despite it being too long to technically qualify as a memory per se, and despite it ending in bitter disappointment. That year I had just moved home from college and I had the great pleasure of watching every game that season with my father – the only person with whom I am entirely comfortable watching a Steeler game – I am physically unable to watch a game in public; I get too nervous. That season was magical and I can think of no better return for a Prodigal Son than watching a young, upstart QB take the reigns of the organization, meet with unprecedented success, but ultimately fail – it sure as Hell beats killing a fatted calf. The next year’s story of redemption coincided with my moving away again (to Baltimore of all places), but without ever leaving my family, my city, and my team behind – I carry them with me now wherever I go.

6) I’ve always been the WR/DB due to my size. And the more life goes on, the smaller I seem to get comparatively. Funny how that works.
7) If I was seriously playing football, I’d probably be the practice squad kicker or something. But I would aspire to be a possession WR because I love making catches and taking quick hits across the middle.
8) Favorite current Steeler is probably Hines. I want to say Aaron Smith because he deserves all the respect in the world, but I love how much Hines loves the game.
9) Since I missed out on all the classic Steelers football of the 70s, I’ll have to say Bettis. I miss being able see us line up 3 yds out and have a sure 7 points. Those were the days haha.
10) My best Steeler memory was definitely SB XLIII. Being down in San Antonio, there was mixed company in terms of casual Steelers fans, Cowboys fans who didn’t want to see the Steelers win their 6th ring, and random people who weren’t really even football fans. I was absolutely loving the first quarter, but then when things started not going so well, some Cardinal bandwagon fan lady yells, “Where’s your towel now?” Well, I have my suspicion that her slandering the Terrible Towel that way gave us that last little bit of juju needed for Ben and Santonio to orchestrate that last drive (I’m not superstitious, just a little stitious). That was one of the best feelings I’ve ever experienced. It’s good to be a Steelers fan.

10. James Harrison’s TD interception. It took almost 40 years to see a play that surpassed the Immaculate Reception. The IR had a healthy percentage of luck; the Immaculate Interception was the ultimate defensive football play, a 14-pointer produced through talent, determination and teamwork with the clock ticking down to 0:00. Unbelievable.

Steeler Questions
8) Whos your favourite current Steeler and why? (can be more than one) Ben & Hines; they’re both class acts and tough as nails.
9) Who is your favourite all-time Steeler, and why? Franco Harris. It wasn’t how he played or how good he was. It had to do with attitude. During the second SB with Dallas, Hollywood Henderson put a borderline hit on Bradshaw that clearly enraged Harris. He didn’t scream at Henderson, the officials, or start a fight. He approached Bradshaw before the huddle, demanded the ball, and then ran it up the gut for the score that iced the game (barely). His reaction was so blue collar macho…it was like he said, “You want to play rough? Chew on this while you fly home a loser.”
10) Your best Steeler memory to date and what made it so special? No question – Franco’s Immaculate Reception. I was a sixteen years old, sitting in my bedroom and listening to the game on the radio with my father (it was blacked out in P-burg). Things looked really bad…I mean, it was fourth and ten, twenty-two seconds left, and the Raiders’ defense at that time was as easily as tough as the Ravens’ is today. My dad started making fun of Bradshaw and the Steelers, and I felt totally wretched.
Fuqua, Harris and the Steelers rescued me from the depths of despair…and the last thirty-six years have been icing on the cake.

Great Memories
I’ve been a fan since ‘75, and I’d say …
1. Greatest game in the last 35 years was probably Steelers/Colts in AFC playoffs in Jan ‘06 – our boys had to win that game 3x – a game they dominated from the 1st snap, with 2 of the most memorable plays in Steeler history (1) Troy’s over-ruled INT, and (2) Fumble, followed by Ben’s tackle.
2. I’m still jacked about Deebo’s 100yd INT/TD at end of 1st half of SB 43 … one of the top 5 plays in NFL playoff history, and I have trouble thinking of the other 4 that would rival it for importance & WOW factor.
Have seen just about every Steeler game for past 30 years or so....
1) Whats your name? Psycho Kuz (of course)
2) Where you come from? up the Allegheny from Heinz Field, although I live in Jersey now amongst Giant and Jet fans
3) Age? Charlie Batch and I almost have the same b-day, except I’m 4 years older
4) Current Job/Occupation? wish it was Mel Kiper Jr.
Your football career
5) Have you ever played football?
(HS, College etc) played Jr High, JV, and HS…wish it could’ve been college too but see #7 below. Have played against a few former NFLers…think the only one left is Gus Frerotte.
6) What position did you play?
FB and LB started both ways, and STs…those were the days! one year played OL and DL which is funny if you look at #7 below.
7) If you could play football, explain what position you would want to play…
well I’d love to play ROLB like James Harrison…nothin like the feeling of crushing the QB from blindside. Only thing is that I’m the same size as Stefan Logan (look up his stats now) so I guess I’m only dreaming. Would love to score TD as a FB too…always liked the feeling of running over someone, but those days are over.
Steeler Questions
8) Whos your favourite current Steeler and why? (can be more than one)
Hines, because he is everything a Steeler WR is and should be, Art Rooney Sr. must be smiling up there in Heaven. Second would be Ben, since he has become a true leader and is like a Timex, take a lickin and keeps on tickin. Third is Troy, because he is a Psycho too, yet the mildest mannered, nice guy in person.
9) Who is your favourite all-time Steeler, and why?
When I was little kid it was Lynn Swann, it always amazed me in such a violent game he was like poetry in motion, probably the most graceful player ever to play the game…sounds kinda odd when you consider my all-time favorite is Jack Lambert, who pound for pound might have been the toughest, and nastiest player ever….I still get chills watching him in the old SB videos.
10) Your best Steeler memory to date and what made it so special?
Seeing all the Terrible Towels waving in person after our victory in SB XL in Detroit. Always said my dream was to go to a SB in person and watch the Steelers win….dream complete. As a child though, going to training camp in Latrobe with my dad to watch the Steelers will always be one of the fondest memories. I can still remember watching all of the Steeler greats from the 70s and early 80s like it was yesterday.
1) Whats your name?
Thiago. Yes, Thiago. :)
2) Where you come from?
Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Bit unsual, huh?
3) Age?

4) Current Job/Occupation?
CS undergrad student
5) Have you ever played football? (HS, College etc)
Only with my feet.
6) What position did you play?
Mostly as mid, have been in the right side for a few years :)
7) If you could play football, explain what position you would want to play
I probably would like to play as a LB. Not only because I think it’s such an underappreciated position, with so much legacy attached to it, but I feel it’s the best thing in a defense and I love to hit people :)
8) Whos your favourite current Steeler and why? (can be more than one)
Mike Tomlin. I know, I know, he doesnt play blablabla.. But he’s such an interesting person in the steelers organization that I think he’s my favorite guy in Pittsburgh.
9) Who is your favourite all-time Steeler, and why?
Jack Lambert. For me, he is the mold for tough guys and I really like his mindset (if what I read about him is indeed true)
10) Your best Steeler memory to date and what made it so special?
The tackle. Cold sweat, red face.. then I cried lol :)

Your football career
5) Have you ever played football? (HS, College etc) Backyard and some intramural type stuff. (Played in snow once in SC as a kid – best ever!)
6) What position did you play? Whatever, loved defense, and excelled at tackling guys older and much bigger than me. Can’t count on one hand how many times I’ve been pancaked out of breath in the line of duty. “Career” ended after I caught an interception which I returned for a TD, pulled groin, couldn’t walk right, told I would loose job if I kept it up. Oh well….
7) If you could play football, explain what position you would want to play.
Linebacker. I learned the hard way I’m not fast enough to chase guys all over the place, and I love to run folks through. Got in trouble playing basketball, baseball, soccer, and hockey for running folks over. Football (and Rugby – check it out!) are the real deal.
Steeler Questions
8) Whos your favourite current Steeler and why? (can be more than one) It’s a close thing now between Hines and Harrison because both of them are so damn tough. Although guys like Aaron Smith get my vote too cause they don’t get enough credit for what they do.
9) Who is your favourite all-time Steeler, and why? Tough one there….prob Bradshaw cause he was a childhood favorite. Pretty damn tough to make winning throws while being knocked unconscious. Then again….Ben is on that same road. Love LeBeau and all the guys on defense who collectively have been the real meat and tatties of the team IMO.
10) Your best Steeler memory to date and what made it so special?
1982 – somehow as a nine year old kid I convince my parents to go hundreds of miles out of the way on vacation to go via Pittsburgh and I get to touch Three Rivers Stadium during the 50 seasons year. We go to Mcdonalds and I get a Mean Joe glass with my happy meal (ex-wife broke this!) Not much, but a great memory for me.
2005 – I’m overseas and happen to run into a visiting service member who’s a cousin of a then current Steelers player (not bragging – just a coincidental thing). I offer him a chance to come see the playoff game vs Colts. Great food, great karma, lots of beer, awesome game, heart stops several times, and my wife predicts (uncharacteristically) that the Colts will miss the FG attempt while I’m about to cry cause they have Mr. automatic indoors where he never misses. Get a chance to pass on thanks to dude’s cousin, albeit remotely.
2010 – After a tougher that expected schedule, some gut checks, and some suprising contributions from an overlooked Championship team, our Pittsburgh Steelers lift a 7th Lombardi and cement the legacy of the latest generation of Steeler greats in history.

If you did this questionnaire with probably any other SB Nation football site you would probably get a lot of people saying they would want to play QB, & WR, & RB…skill position players….I have seen a few ppl say WR, but almost everyone is saying LB….That is STEELER FOOTBALL my friends.

1) Whats your name? Matt
2) Where you come from? West Central, IL
3) Age? 39
4) Current Job/Occupation?
High School Art Teacher/Artist living in MT.
5) Have you ever played football?
I played 6-12 grade. Suspended 10th grade. (youthful indiscretion) Started varsity 11 and 12.
6) What position did you play?
I was a weakside guard, quick off the ball and loved contact.
7) If you could play football, explain what position you would want to play…
If I were taller, I would be happy and well suited to remain an Offensive lineman.
Steeler Questions
8) Whos your favourite current Steeler and why? (can be more than one).
BEN. He is the franchise quaterback for the greatest franchise in football. Just seems like he was destined to hoist the Lombardi trophy. Ditto for Tomlin and Lebeau. The only explanation I can muster is that the football gods must really favor the Steelers. Deebo, Farrior, and Ward for their work ethic, tenacity, respect and love for the game. With these men on board, a dynasty is not that far off. In fact, it is so close I can taste it.
Special mention: Aaron Smith, Woodley, Timmons, Holmes.
9) Who is your favourite all-time Steeler, and why?
Bradshaw, Blount, Lambert, Woodson, Lloyd, Bettis, Ben, Hines, and Troy. Simply to because I enjoy watching them play the game. I appreciate their athleticism and their ability to step up and deliver the goods.
10) Your best Steeler memory to date and what made it so special?
2008 was spectacular and SB43 was quite a thrill. Harrison’s 100 yrd INT return TD, Ben to Holmes gamewinner with 35 seconds remaining. WOW
I had first-row endzone seats for the 2007 game at St. Louis. Watching Ben wind up and heave the ball to Holmes for a 65 yr bomb from about 15 yards away was something I’ll never forget.
Good effort against the Steelers last year

7) Linebacker, but would love to rotate around & try ‘em all!
8) Hines Ward. Plays WR like he’s a LB, enjoying every second of it
9) Jack Lambert—Loved that passion & energy & fire & ultimate intimidation
10) Three come to mind:
1. Lambert’s taking down Cliff Harris in the Superbowl when kicker (who had prvsly had his rib cracked tackling the runner off of a kickoff) was being taunted/teased.
2. Lambert going after the defender who put a late hit on Steeler backup QB who had just run out of bounds. Again, sticking up for his teammate against poor sportsmen.
3. James Harrison taking down the drunk Brown’s fan who disrupted the game a couple years ago running onto the field. No one else really tried to stop the goofball, but Harrison did what was right, and taught someone a valuable lesson that day…! :)

8. Polamalu…I love his freakish ability and the fact he is dangerous at anywhere on the field, not just the secondary….and the hair.
9. Jack Ham, I go to PSU, so he started Linebacker U and was part of the dynasty.
10. Both of the past two Super Bowls since I get to watch all the Philly fans hear in State College, bitch and moan.

2) Where you come from? – San Juan, Puerto Rico
3) Age? – 41
4) Current Job/Occupation? – Engineering Project Manager
5) Have you ever played football? – None besides a few pickup games in college
6) What position did you play? – See #5
7) If you could play football, explain what position you would want to play – I’d love to play FS. Love being in the middle of the action, the hitting, plus the cerebral part of it in calling the coverage.
8) Whos your favourite current Steeler and why? – Troy P (love his style of play, and his freakish athleticism), Hines (money player and awesome leader), Woodley (he’s a monster) and Ben (simply a winner)
9) Who is your favourite all-time Steeler, and why? – Actually, two: John Stallworth (always underrated, but always big when the team needed him) and Jack Lambert (he revolutionezed the MLB position, but also his attitude defined Steeler football)
10) Your best Steeler memory to date and what made it so special? – I have so many, since I’ve watched on TV since I was a kid (the most recent SB has a few of ‘em, obviously!), but my current favorite is Troy’s INT in the AFCCG this year. I was so excited, ’cause after such a hard year, this “ridiculously tough” team (quoting Coach Tomlin) was GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL!!! I was jumping up and down and screaming like a maniac in my living room!!!

10) There are all of the usual go too’s but I am going off the board. During our SB XL run to just stay alive and make the playoffs, we faced the Bears in rough weather conditions and had to ride the Bus to get us there. In the fourth quarter with two Bears dangling off of his shoulders, Jerome RAN the overrated Brian Urlaker SMOOTH THE HELL OVER, and delivered him a mouthful of nut-sweat for his meager efforts. NICE……

I don’t know how I missed this post for so long. But it was fun to read and I’ll gladly oblige.
1-4: Kevin Smith, from the Jersey shore near Atlantic City. I just turned the big 4-0 and I’m a History and Government teacher at Ocean City High School. I’ve been coaching football there for 17 years. I’ve coordinated the defense and the special teams and am entering my fifth year as the O-coordinator.
5-8: I played quarterback and outside linebacker in high school (I know, nice combination) and then strong safety at Gettysburg College. Strong safety is a fantastic position as it involves pass coverage, open field tackling, taking on fullbacks in the hole, occasionally blitzing the quarterback. I never had so much fun playing the game as when I played SS. Needless to say, Mr. Polamalu is my favorite current Steeler. I love watching him play whirling dervish out there. What fun Coach Lebeau must have designing ways for him to wreak havoc.
9-10: My favorite all-time Steeler is Jack Lambert. I took the screen name “Cliff Harris is Still a Punk” because Super Bowl X was the first Steeler game I remember, and Lambert was a terror that day. One moment that stands out in particular was when he shoved Cliff Harris to the ground after Harris heckled Roy Gerela for missing a field goal. Harris seemed like a classic weasel and Lambert like a superhero. I’ve loved the Steelers (and hated the Cowboys) ever since that day.
Best to all Steeler fans. Can’t wait to start the journey towards #7!

I love to play goal line situations on D and play as a blind-side tackle, is such a difficult position, you have to focus on the game all the time, one mistake is crucial.

Steeler_:
I was still pretty young when Lambert was playing, but at that age you’re really impressionable. So this toothless guy who was clearly the most intense and most physical player on the field was really appealing. That Cliff Harris play showed what a teammate he was. I remember my dad saying, “Wow, nobody ever sticks up for the kicker like that.” He was a great teammate — not the most physically gifted guy but someone who compensated with his motor and his intelligence. Jack Ham always said that about Lambert — that he was smarter than people gave him credit for. And the fact that off the field he was a humble, quiet guy made him even more admirable…
By the way, great idea for the post…

6. undersized defensive lineman (would now be an oversized defensive lineman)
7. Linebacker, just not fast enough.
8. HInes and James Harrison for the same reason. Heart is more important that talent. When have you ever heard of a WR that intimidates and knocks linebackers out of games? When the league has to create special legislation to protect players from you what more is there to say? As for Harrison, SB XLIII, 18 seconds before half time. All you need to know.
9. Mean Joe. If you didn’t see him play his rookie year you have no idea how good he was. Besides he would be the patron saint of defensive linemen.
10. Immaculate Reception. With all due respect to Al Michaels and the US Olympic Hockey team, this is the original Do You Believe In Miracles. The event that got the ball rolling and there is no end in sight.

Just improvised, back-yard crap
6) What position did you play?
Everything but quarter-back, that was for the glory-hounds with low self-esteem ;)
7) If you could play football, explain what position you would want to play
Offensive Tackle – There’s something noble about the unheralded defender that makes the ‘big money’ plays possible.
Steeler Questions
8) Whos your favourite current Steeler and why? (can be more than one)
Hines Ward – love his attitude
9) Who is your favourite all-time Steeler, and why?
It was Lynn Swan until he made the bone-headed decision to run as a Republican candidate for governor of Pennsylvania. After learning more about Pittsburgh’s golden years, I have to go with Jack Lambert.
10) Your best Steeler memory to date and what made it so special?
Growing up, in the 70s, I got to live through the perfect storm of a sports franchise melding with its surrounding community. There was such a melting pot of ethnic groups and mutts in the steel valley, and somehow the team was able to reflect the same sensibility. An Irish owner, an black/Italian HOF running back, even some Slovak dude (and the valley was/is chock-filled with Slovaks, my family included) all represented some facet of the surrounding residents. Everyone knew someone named Rocky or Franco – heck you probaby worked with one in the mill. And despite the differences in background, everyone united together on Sundays (it didn’t matter if you were Catholic OR Greek Orthodox Catholic-LOL) to watch and pray for the Steelers, and Myron Cope was our pope.
Every year our elementary school would have a “Steelers Day.” All the kids would come to school dressed in Steelers regalia, and us kids would march up and down the hall as the intercom played “The Pittsburgh Polka.” What could be better than that? How could I not be wonderfully brain-washed?

7. I would play Middle Linebacker or Strong Saftey (if I could play like Troy and harass the QB.
8. Gotta be Troy, he’s the only only one to outplay his 1970’s Curtain counterpart. Also love Ward but who doesn’t?
9. Lambert, no teeth and scary. the BUS, 5th all time rusher, at 250+ pounds?!?! are you serious?
10. There are a lot. But the one I love is the Randle El pass in the Superbowl. I was watching the game with my dad, the one who got me into them, and I leaned over to him and said " This is about the time the Whiz likes to call Gadget plays." and sure enough a slightly under thrown pass from the former Heisman hopeful. It felt especially good because I was freaking pissed that we did so bad the 1st half.
GO STEELERS!!!
it never got weird enough for me
Sorry I'm Late To Te Party!
Great thread. Been traveling so hadn’t checked in. Interesting read above. Loved getting to know some of you that I dialogue with from time to time. Who is 50?
1) Drew
2) Born & Raised In Pittsburgh. An East End kid. Currently living the dream in Southern California.
3) 46
4) Director Of Sales for a large equipment manufacturer.
5) Played Baseball through High School and then softball until about a year ago when age finally crept up on me. Did play pickup football every weekend in the winter at Schenley Oval and yearly Frick Park Turkey Bowls through my years in Pittsburgh.
6) Usually a rushing LB or a blocking RB when playing football. All Star SS in baseball.
7) Would be a blitzing MLB if I could choose a position and better genes.
8) Favorite current Steeler would be Big Ben. I waited 20 plus years for Bradshaw’s replacement and knew we finally had him the first preseason game I saw 7 play. Defense wins championships. But, the most important position on the field relating to a Lombardi is QB. See O’Donnell and Stewart, two QB’s that had great defenses and never sniffed a championship.
9) Jack Splat Lambert (his intensity, intimidation and will to win) Greg Lloyd (see Lambert) Bubby Brister (always felt this kid won despite the team around him. Had Cowher chose 6 over 14 in 92, the Steelers would have won a Lombardi in 92, 94 or 95) Jerome “The Bus” Bettis who epitomized what Steelers offense is all about. He played RB like an LB and loved the game, the city and his team.
10) The Immaculate Reception. This question inspired me to join this thread. The game was blacked out in Pittsburgh and me and my basketball teammates huddled around a transistor across from the Cathedral of Learning listening. I still can hear Jack Fleming in my head saying “and the ball is caught out of the air by Franco Harris! He’s running for a Steelers touchdown!” and I get goose bumps just writing it. I loved Harrison’s interception in XLIII but the Steelers expected to win and already had 5 titles. The Immaculate Reception was the birth of the Steelers Nation. This team hadn’t won a kewpie doll in 40 years until a hustling Franco plucked the pigskin out of the afternoon sky and rumbled to glory.

6) What position did you play? WR/DB
7) If you could play football, explain what position you would want to play. I think I’d have liked to play bump and run style DB, before the rules changes. In college, we played pick-up basketball games, and I’m sure I’d have fouled out in about 2 minutes if we actually called fouls.
Steeler Questions
8) Whos your favourite current Steeler and why? (can be more than one)
Have to go with Hines. I always like the aging star, and he fits that bill right now. I hope he can continue to produce well for at least 3 more years. I love his attitude.
9) Who is your favourite all-time Steeler, and why?
Tough question. I guess I’d say Mean Joe, who Bradshaw called in his autobiography ‘the cornerstone of the dynasty.’ Love all of the old guys though: Blount, Harris, Swann and Stallworth, Bleier, Webster, Dwight White, Lambert, etc., etc.
10) Your best Steeler memory to date and what made it so special?
Tie between SB XL and this year’s AFCCG. SB XL finally gave me a championship in my adult life, after starting to think it would never happen. The AFCCG finally gave us a championship at Heinz Field. It was nice to see the Steelers step up in a championship when favored, finally.

Steeler Questions
8) Whos your favourite current Steeler and why? (can be more than one)
Troy – because he’s crazy and dedicated and classy – remember when he got tackled by his hair and just got up and went directly to the sideline, did not talk trash, just passed go. He’s just got class…like “I’m here to do my job” and doesn’t even need to talk because he’s crazy and his play shows his talent…no talk necessary.
Hines – because he’s a WR but no diva. he’ll block you like a defensive player. AND he signed that new contract and will retire a Steeler. I love that.
Deebo/Woodley/Farrior etc etc etc….just because.
Mike Tomlin – HUGE crush on him. If he were single….oh wait, did I say that out loud?
I love that he pushes the team to be humble, to not take any game for granted no matter what their record, that he’s mentor and friend and that he’s passionate. I love him…damn, did I say that out loud too?
9) Who is your favourite all-time Steeler, and why?
Wow…that’s tough.
Greg Lloyd?
Jack Lambert?
I can’t decide…
10) Your best Steeler memory to date and what made it so special?
I grew up with the Steelers. I remember hanging with my dad on Sundays just watching football. the most important part of this…hanging with my dad. Everything I know about football I learned from him. it’s our bond. My brother plays golf with him, I watch Steelers. I dont think I even had a choice on what team to love…and my brother, for whatever reason, loved Miami Dolphins. I dont think my father has ever forgiven him for that lol…kidding. But seriously, my dad is my most loyal blog reader…it’s our gig.
That’s me….

Watching Super Bowl XL at a Steeler Bar (Beef O’Bradys) in Cocoa Beach with my Wife. Had to watch the last SB while deployed. We were coming home from a vacation cruise after my first tour to Iraq. We planned our stop over and found a Steeler Bar in Cocoa Beach with a Holiday Inn across the parking lot. We sat a former Steeler Assistant with a Super Bowl X championship ring. I am having trouble remembering his name right now. If I think of it I will edit.
