Need some loyal fan input
My two friends (One Viking fan and One Dolphin fan) have been bugging me about a few things and I was just going to see what Steeler nation had to say. The first issue is with Super Bowls. Do you say the Steelers won 6? I do but my friends say I am only allowed to hold up two fingers since that is all that they have one since I have been alive (1989). So I was just curious on your takes on this situation. Number two deals with Sir Hines Ward. He is a stud receiver and I love him. But my friends are convinced he is the face of mediocrity. He doesn't put up flashy numbers and his dumbass smile after every play. I throw stats in their face that he leads the Steelers in virtually every WR category and has 2 SB and a MVP. I'm convinced he is first ballot material, but they say he isn't worth the HoF at all. HELP! I need to show these clowns what a championship feels like!

The steelers won 6 superbowls. Your friends creating an arbitrary cutoff date is just dumb. Would they ask you to say “The USA has only had four presidents” or “Pittsburgh has always been a health/education center”? No. History matters, but apparently not to dolphins and vikings fans. If they insist on arbitrary cutoff points, you could always insist that the steelers have won every single superbowl in the last year.
You’ll never be able to convince your friends that Ward is an elite receiver, he may not ever be one. Hines Ward is an elite football player, but I suppose your friends are too busy “playing” fantasy football to care about that. There have only ever been 6 superbowl MVPs that are WRs, and 3 of them are steelers. 1 of them is Hines Ward. Hate to break it to you, but Hines will not be first ballot HoF. I’d like him to be, but that’s not the way the voting will go down. Ward is, however, the man.
Don't worry about the haters. Haters only hate.

I was trying to think of a way to put the situation of the “cutoff date” in, but you thought of a great example
I love Hines, and youre dead on the money about a football player. He wasnt the most polished receiver, but damn does he know how to play the game. He wont be 1st ballot, but 10000 on a rushing team, 2 superbowl wins, numerous pro bowls, and not to mention a Superbowl MVP
Hines showed the NFL how the WR can be played, stop drooling over players like Moss and show some love for the guys who arent as blessed in physical talent yet still find ways to be brilliant
BLITZBURGH IS BACK
Have them talk to Browns fans. . .
Whenever I talk about SB, they bring up the championships that they won in the late 40’s and the 50’s.
yea
I get the same issue, but the disscussion is about super bowls not championships so that usually ends the convos, I mean if u wanna count em thats fine, we have 7 and been to about 14 of them…

Thats the problem!!
The first issue is listening to Dolphin and Vikings fans. They are just sad their teams are not as good as our beloved Steelers. They have 6 rings. They are the Six-Burgh Steelers baby.
As for Hines. He may not get the flashy numbers but he is da man. He is the heart and soul of the Steelers. He is better then any WR the Viks or Phins will or ever have had. That includes Randy Moss.
Love Hines
And he’s a complete receiver, but Chris Carter. That’s all I have to say.

Thanks
This helps a lot. I was incorrect with first ballot but he is in elite company with Stallworth and Swann. I especially like the “4 presidents” statement. Well said.
why not just ask deebo to come over and smack em silly
fins and vikes fans…..jeez. @ least they aren’t browns fans, b/c that would be really embarassing for them.

lol
or u can also give them an arbitrary cut off date and ask them how many superbowls they’ve won/been in since 1989. answer is 0
Hines Ward is first ballot HOF
Lets look at the WR’s curently in the HOF to make a comparison:
Hines’ Career Numbers: Games: 170 Rec: 800 Yds: 9780 TDs: 72
Sources: Steelers team page and HOF website.
Hines will finish with more games, rec, yards and TD’s if he plays two more years of the four year contract he signed, or in multiple cases already exceeds the stats of the following WR’s already in the HOF:
Lance Allworth, Ray Berry, Belitnifokk, Tom Fears, Bob Hayes, Elroy Crazy legs Hirsch, Michael Irvin (maybe on the yards, but already beat him on TD and rec), Steve Largent (maybe on yards, probably not on TD’s), james Lofton (on TD, probably not on Yards), Don Maynard (maybe on TD’s), Bobby Mitchell, Art Monk, (maybe on yads, beats him already in catches and tds), Pete Pihos, John Stallworth, Lynn Swann, Charlie taylor, and will defionately surpass Paul Warfield in yds and catches, but maybe not TD.
Those are all the WR’s currently in the HOF according to their website. Jerry Rice is not on the list, but no way anyone ever catches him in any category. Ward , not only because of his recieving but also for his intangibles is a definate first ballot WR. I do not think even many Steeler fans give credit to his greatness over the course of his career. Just look at the stats of Stallworth and Swann, two certified Steeler greats and compare then to Hines, and you will see he is a GREAT WR.
Just a note too about how great Jerry Rice was:
games: 303
Rec: 1549
yds 22895
TD 197
Representing in Louisiana since 1968
Career leaders for Dolphins and Vikes in Receptions, yds, td catches
Fins: Yds: Mark duper 8869
TD and Rec: Mark Clayton TD 81, Rec 550
Ward pwns on all categories except TDs and he will pass that before he retires.
Vikes: Chris Carter: rec 1004, yds 12383 td 110
Hines has been averaging about 75 rec a year and 7 tds, and 900 yds. If he plays all four years of his current contract he will surpass Carter on rec and yds, but not on tds.
Representing in Louisiana since 1968
i know i do
Hines Ward is my favorite athlete to ever play any sport to me hes the greatest football player to ever live i know theres ALOT of room for argument but i just wont hear it as a grown man i have no problem saying Hines is my hero im just glad im alive to see him play as i missed out on the 70s Steelers

OH, and I didnt see this: Rice has 10 TDs rushing, one throwing, and one DEFENSIVE td lol, making his TD total 209. Crazy.
Representing in Louisiana since 1968
I should go back to work LOL
I note also Hines only has 9 fumbles with 4 lost IN HIS ENTIRE CAREER AT WR. Just think about all the players wanting to smack the stuffing out of Hines and the hard hits you have seen this great player take and think about that stat.
Representing in Louisiana since 1968
How odd
You would think that Dolphins and Vikings fans would not want to forget about the 70’s when they last won (or in the case of the Vikings – even played) in a Superbowl.
You know the truth is that I think the Vikings fans are just mad that we took Tomlin from them before they had a clue what a great coach he was.
Dolphins fans are just mad at how badly they have sucked in recent years. Maybe the recent re-building will help.
As for the Ward discussion, let them hate. When Ward goes to the hall, a bunch of fantasy football fans can scratch their head at how he managed to amass great career numbers with never going high in their draft.
Football fans will recognize one of the great ones. Ward is a fantastic possession receiver who managed to put up great numbers – despite playing in a run oriented system for most of his career. He is also the best blocking receiver in the game bar none. True testament to him comes from the fact that the league was forced to changed the rules of the game to protect linebackers from being hurt. Let that one settle in.
Here we go
Ok, first of all to your friends, I hate ya and ya stank. Welcome to me.
I was also born in 1989. Am I to assume that every other event prior to that date never existed? I suppose the civil war was a myth. I guess my father is a lie. I reckon the NFL never played a single down prior to then. And my incubation in my mothers womb was a facade.
BULLSHIT.
Now lets talk Hines Ward. The man converts third downs like the Europeans converted the new world. He can dish and take a hit harder than anyone and come up smiling, and I’d love to ask your friends to find any other receiver who takes a boof from John Lynch on the opening series of a AFCCG and still somehow stays up and catches the ball. Yeah I thought they couldnt.
Beyond that consider the fact that Mr. Ward is a far more decorated receiver than anything the Vikings or Dolphins have had since the magical year of 1989. Fight fire with fire then.
I arrest my case!
The man converts third downs like the Europeans converted the new world.
Ha.
Don't worry about the haters. Haters only hate.

the man uses metaphor like the Japanese used suicide dive bombers in world war II

Just a few quick comments on this
Number 1: Don’t put up two fingers…put up one….the middle one and tell them to quit hatin’. Your team has 6 and not only that You’ve seen your team win just as many super bowls as both of their sorry teams have won in their history.
Number two: See LaSteeler68’s post above.
"The team that scores the most points wins."
John Madden
(Master of the obvious)
Not a big deal
Just let your friends know that they’re eligible for mental therapy and should check into the nearest mental hospital.
It's true what they say...Even the NFL's Big Wigs hate the Steelers. On the plus side, I can now tell my future grand kids about Hines Ward and how the NFL made rules because of him. Roger Goodell, you make me sick.

Also Remember...
Regardless of either of your friends’ arguments, your team has MADE IT to more Super Bowls in your lifetime (three) than your friends’ teams have made it to in their lifetimes (the Dolphins and Vikings both have made it to exactly zero big dances since 1989), let alone the fact your team has won two of them.
Far as Hines goes, your friends apparently know next to nothing about football. If stats were the end-all, be-all, wouldn’t the Patriots have won the Super Bowl a few years back? Wouldn’t the 1998 VIKINGS have won the Super Bowl if stats meant everything? Not to mention all those Dolphin teams back when Marino was breaking a record every single game he played in…
Actually
Don’t tell them anything. Tell them to mark these dates down: Sunday October 25th & Sunday January 3rd. That way, they can just experience Hines, and another SB run.
This is Pittsburgh Steeler Troy Polamalu getting knocked around by the Pacific Ocean in Hawaii yesterday...
Minutes later, Troy caught the ocean going over the middle and smacked it right in the mouth. The ocean fumbled, Troy recovered and ran it into the endzone. The ocean never messed with Troy again.
Best WR
Hines is the best WR to ever play the game!!!! Yes better than Jerry Rice.. After all what other WR has a rule named after him. What WR has ever broken a LB jaw with A BLOCK FOR THE RUN GAME. That is STEELER STYLE baby!!
I don’t know if I would go as far as best WR. But I will say this- Ward is the most complete football player to play wide receiver I can think off. He loves being in there in clutch situations, blocks EXTREMELY well, runs across the middle, does not drop many passes and would do whatever is asked of him to help the team.
Man I hate playing against him twice a year.
It's still a good season if we go 2-14 and beat the Steelers twice.
Don't stoop to their level
They’re little dogs nipping at the heels of the BIG DOG. Don’t pay attention to their helpless little yelps. Carry on like you’re above that. What would Tomlin do? He ignores the small petty stuff and concentrates on winning.
Ward – He’s not flashy, he just moves the chains. He’s tough, the best blocking WR in the game EVER. DBs heads are on a swivel when they play the Steelers. Finally, he has two SB rings. Nuff said.
