Heres' an interesting thought
What does the peanut gallery think about the idea of signing Mike Vick to an incentive laden one year contract?? I know there will be naysayers because he did a shitty thing and yeah we have a franchise qb and seem settled at the backup. But what about the idea that person deserves a second chance? What about the fact that he is only 29?We could certainly use him in sooooo many ways and the stability of our locker room could really help this guy get himself right.I honestly do not know but I think that Tomlin could really be the catalyst to save this guy??Proceed.

If he wants to play here for the league min, why not?
He could definately give D. Dixon a couple pointers.

no way
This team needs to focus on repeating and taking advantage of this window that our veterans still have to play at high level. Media circus too great and a distraction.

Can an interesting thought also be a terrible one?
The Steelers would be better off signing me to a contract…and I’m almost 40 years old, haven’t played much football since high school and would struggle to run a 5.5 40.
Fortunately, the Steeler FO won’t put more than 0.5 seconds worth of thought to this idea.

Sorry man, I was rooting for you to make the team.
Better luck next year.
Sure he can score goals, but can he cook?

Vick doesn't have anything to contribute to the Steelers!
I agree our organization is strong enough to not suffer adversely from any of Vick’s distractions

Well talking of something other then his history and distractions, what does Vick bring to the Steelers? Basically Vick is a 29 year old running back. He was generally a perminant wildcat QB. At 29 he won’t be able to run like he used to. He also hasn’t played football in 2 years. Their is no way he is in as good of shape as he once was. As for mentoring Dixon Batch would do a far better job. Vick brings nothing to the Steelers except a media circus.

I trust our coaches enough
so if we brought him in and they thought we could use him as a qb/hb/wr/kr/pr, I would be okay with it. But I don’t believe we NEED him in any of those. If he were cheap enough and willing to be an "extra ball barring, so to speak, I could see PIT as a good fit. As far as being in shape, there really is nothing like the federal prison work out plan! I mean he probably did a lot of lifting in there, there’s not much else to do besides get jacked.
it never got weird enough for me

A rotation of defense-tiring QBs
Considering we already have the NFL’s best “jail-break” offensive line, Vick would be a perfect fit! We could have a great rotation of QBs designed to tire out the defense. Ben comes in, escapes pressure, rolls out, takes 10 seconds to survey the field while the defense runs their asses off, throws a completion for first down. Then Vick comes in, runs around for 10 seconds before running for a first down. Then Ben comes in, etc etc … a few series like this and the opposing D will need oxygen carts rolled onto the field.
Adding Vick wouldn’t be a bad idea. No pressure on him, low expectations, the elusiveness to avoid a pass rush and a great runner. To heck with the Wildcat, with Vick and the depth of our RBs we could bring back the Wishbone! Tomlin has even been pretty vocal about Vick deserving a second chance. I don’t think it has a snowball’s chance of happening but it’s not the craziest idea in the world.

Pass
Way too much controversy and distraction. Not even a 1st thought for the FO.

Vick
ends up in the bay area and Singletary straightens him out once and for all. Or throws pads on and hits him so hard he never harms a fly for the rest of his days. The Niners go on to make a run in the playoffs but fall short and have to settle for a division championship. Hey just calling it like I see it.
Got a problem with Harrison, why not take it up with him? Oh you know why!

BA
would never have the stones to use him effectively — unless you want to list him as the 4th TE.
I can’t see bumping some actual Steeler from the roster for him. We already have a stacked RB, QB, and maybe even WR team. We have 4 Candidates for kick returns so what would he bring us?
I think he should get another chance but it makes sense to put him somewhere that lacks depth at QB, RB, or WR.
Minnesota, Indy, NE, SF, NYJ would all be decent spots for the guy IMO

Exactly. I’m all for the guy getting a second chance but who do we drop for him? He really doesn’t fill any needs, and the only roster spots we could use for him are at positions where we already have talent and need the roster spots to hold on to our draft picks.

If we signed him, I would have faith that the FO and Tomlin know something we dont. I dont think we should sign him. We dont need any distractions, and I really think the organization has criteria for the character of men they sign, and I dont believe Vick fits the Steeler Way.

Backup QB is our weakest position
Could Vick help the Steelers? If he still has the physical tools, absolutely. He’s 28 years old, still young enough from an athletic perspective to perform at a high level. Either in a limited role as a gimmick formation QB or as an emergency starter because of injury, the Vick of three years ago would give the Steelers a better chance to win than either of the two backup QBs they now have. No one can evaluate the 2009 Vick until they bring him in for a long look. Backup QB is by far the weakest position on the Steeler roster. Charlie Batch hasn’t started more than two games in a season since 2001 and didn’t play at all last year. Dixon has thrown one pass. The only reason Vick is relevant in the NFL is because he was a dynamic football player. He made plays, mostly with his legs but more often than people think with his arm. He had 20 TD passes in his last season, including four in one game to beat the Steelers. He was the primary reason the Falcons reached the playoffs twice and the NFC Conference final once.
Of course, you are not just getting a backup quarterback. You are getting perhaps the most vilified man in America, rightly or wrongly. The only way a team could successfully handle the “distraction” of Vick is one that has outstanding leadership at every level: ownership, front office, coaching and in the locker room. That’s exactly what the Steelers have. This is an unusual situation and the moral debates are interesting but irrelevant. The team that signs him will do so for football reasons and only because he convinces everyone involved he can be a good teammate who will work his butt off to make a contribution no matter how small and, in his case, demonstrate that he is 100 per cent committed to turning his life around. The only way a team can accurately assess Vick’s commitment to life and football is by keeping an open mind and being able to acknowledge that somewhere inside every human being is the capacity for redemption.

The Steelers don't need to sell seats
If Vick return’s it will be to a team who needs a buzz… a team for whom even bad publicity is a good thing.
That’s not the Steelers, who have such a long waiting list for season tickets you only get them when someone dies and leaves you theirs in their will.
Besides, Rooney’s a dog-lover…
