My adventure at the White House with the Steelers

So most of you know - well, maybe not, but you do now - that my office is literally a block from the White House.  So, learning that the Stillers would visit was a highlight in my week. (Especially since I just got back from depression Detroit where all Lions gear is on clearance)

I didn't quite have the experience I wanted to have, but I got some pics and truth be told, I am going to give a big huge $1 to anyone who can fix the pictures...that has never happened to me before...no idea why they look like that, but regardless, hope you enjoy my view of the Steelers trip to the White House.

Pictures are now better and I will edit them again and repost later this weekend.

Hope you all enjoy the post.

Lions gear is all on clearance

Because they got a new logo; they’re trying to get rid of all the “old logo” stuff.

I should say that I am back home for the last weekend in our old house (RIP)

and all the Lions fans around here are saying “playoffs!”. If only it was as easy as getting a new coach, QB, and logo…

Maybe that’s why the Browns are so bad? They haven’t changed their logo in forever…

Lol

Funny thing is the “new coach, new QB” thing worked pretty well for Miami , Baltimore and Atlanta

By no means am i saying Detroit is going to miraculously turn it around, but i ate my words last year with both Atlanta and Baltimore, i have no comment on Detroit atm :)

Nice little write up.

FYI, about the pictures, the ‘problem’ is that they are ‘too big’. What you want to do is either set the camera to shoot at a lower megapixel resolution, or reduce the picture size in an image editing program. There’s a ton of automatic picture resize tools, where you simply batch convert them. Web should be 72 dpi, width or height should not relaly be over 500, 600 pixels on the tallest or widest side.

There’s even websites that will do some of these for you:

http://www.resize2mail.com/

(Ive never used that, I do all my image work in photoshop CS2.)

Hope this helps, and give the dollar to one of those windshield washer millionaires at the corner of Fla ave and whatever. :)

I actually did resize all the pics...

what’s weird is that I always use the same size and still, only a few are “off the grid” – but I will try it again….make’em smaller….

But thanks! Glad you liked the post…

try resize em smaller. :)

I looked at the picture sizes for some of the pictures. Most are 816 × 614, weighing in at 500k. That’s pretty huge. You can get more out of an image if you crop them. I think I’d keep the widest or longest side of pictures to at most 600 pixels. If your image program has a jpeg quality slider, you may be able to drop the files down to 60 to 90k. Good luck, and hope to see more pictures!

by SteelersVT on May 21, 2009 11:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I resized them....again.

they are ok now.

I cropped them once already…I was so far back (thank you Mr. Officers) that I had a lotta background too, but anyway, I brought them down a little…

I might go back into my CS this weekend and play around some more though, I just didn’t have time last night…anyway, that’s my story and I am sticking with it.

The photos look fine at this point….thanks for all your editing advice, I will make sure that I size them much smaller next time.

Resolution

Always keep the camera taking the best pics you can. You can always tweak them on the PC.

I take 8 megapixel shots, but it literally takes 10 seconds to go into PS CS2 and change DPI to 72.

What office?

Im going to be working on Pennsylvania this summer at the RGA. Im jealous you were there for that.

I work in a fed guvment building right there, by the White House.

Don’t be jealous. I just knew what “time” they were arriving which made all the difference in the world. The other two Steelers fans I picked up along the way had been hanging out since 9am. I was just lucky that I knew the time and didn’t miss anything.

I would have probably been arrested if the cops messed with me like that while the Champions were in the vacinity

I hung out in the Steelers’ hotel when they were here in Tampa for XLIII and the cops were pretty benign. They did have a little rope that the autograph hounds had to stay behind, but normal people didn’t have to.

They were just lucky...

that I wasn’t crazy. I’m sure they enjoyed effing with me like that.
Pompous people with guns…they have low self-esteem in their real lives and get off on the power they hold BEHIND the gates carrying those guns.
Whatever dude.
if that’s what made them happy…well, whatever.

Booooo

Hey, but did you get to go to either SB parade? Because I haven’t been to one yet…always have to work and not enough time notice to be able to get my work done “around” it…so let me have my little 5 minutes at the White House lol :)

No SB Parade either...

I live a deprived life I guess. Although my 5 year old cousin has seen two. I’ll admit it, I’m a little jealous of a child barley out of preschool.

You were in the D?

Shoulda hit me up! What brought you into the sorry ass Detroit area… It is very depressing.

Black Enterprise Entrepreneurs conference

which has absolutely nothing to do with football or this post…but I was there. In the RenCen all week…(well Sun through Wed)

And yes, I always take high res pics..and crop’em depending on where I am posting them. I think I got confused between blog res/size and FB res/size. It’s been a rough week and I was in a freaking hurry!

You guys are hard core over here!! lol…killing people and all….

Happy Memorial Day Weekend folks!

Bittersweet

story there. And, pretty consistent with all my experience and stories i hear about the DC police, not a fun or terribly upstanding bunch, IMHO.

by tkired on May 24, 2009 7:46 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

takes the fun out of it with all you ore heads living in other states..way to support the Pitt. economy. i wonder how many times steelgurl says “yeah, we just scored a home run” during a steeler’s game. hopefully steelgurl has to give up her worn grey felt cubicle next admin. change and take her crunchy towel back to the mountains. someone should get her a My Little Poney camera thats easier to operate. was it last week she tried to feed film into the CD-RW drive. lol. remember, you can’t put a credit card in the dvd-rom drive for pay pal either. steeler chicks…sheesh.

i hope she punched out for the parade. those are my tax dollars. how bitter is that. you whip my ravens and then i have to pay a million gov’t employees to set up for a squeeler visit and have “workers” ditch their cubicles to watch some bums standing on marble steps. dc cops aren’t mean..there just skins fans working in their home town, taking care of their city being bothered by transplants. their giving the business because the skins couldn’t. their still cleaning all the yellow and black out of Fed Ex.

no hate in me...just a bitter rat bird

i’ve got bitter for ya…..bitter is Troy stealing our playbook and jumping flacco routes. bitter is mcgahee reshaped into a lunch box. bitter is ben’s triple sow cow double lutz sack avoidance system. this is a long offseason made for raven bitter ms. squeelersquirrel.

roll up those sleeves squeelersquirrel because we are building a lean mean fighting machine in B-more this summer. we got waxed by the uglies 3 straight games on national tv. ooohhh that’s bitter. twice ben marched the length of the field in the final minutes against our all nebula d. bitter bitter bitter. we are on a mission. dragon slayer, eye of the tiger, rambo, fist of fury, rudy, the longest yard, the natural, princess bride type mission. so you betta’ back up sucka cause we’re feelin’ good- bad news bears in the astro dome mission!!! now go root for the 10 hockey teams you like. those sleeves up yet? you are 7 ft tall so that may take a while.

your team is complete and ready. your bored with SB wins. you’ve got fans in Malasia who couldn’t tell you what a football is but yell steelwers and own big yellow fingers. life is good in pitt.. too good. the skies are blue, birds chirping, steel being shipped to china and coming back as little steeler wind chimes…september cannot get here fast enough! this Teletubby planet you guys are on needs a major dose of purple pain. hopefully we dont have to play 2 in your stadium and get screwed in our own. NFL corporate darlings you. i’ll get back to x’s and o’s when we break for camp. speculation isn’t as fun as smack or towel dispensers.

Troy stole your playbook, eh? Did he do it cat-burglar style, wearing black tights and dodging moving red laser motion detectors? I agree with heath, you are completely delusional my friend. But you are correct about McGahee, Ryan Clark totally ate his lunch, which I was thrilled to see.

As far as diatribes go, this one has been pretty impressive. I think you captured the essence of what it means to be a Ravens fan. I finally see you as… my brother. (tears well up in eyes)

If it makes you feel better, you can always watch Matt Wieters become a superstar while Dan Moskos fizzles out in Double-A. I’m bitter about that one.

bitter lonely ravens fan i am. what the hell does lmmfao mean anyway? gotta be squeelersquirrel government lingo. loveable losers like the O’s don’t turn your hair gray. ben’s john belushi back flips and cartwheels to escape sacks does. he’s on a mission from god. “dear baby jesus in little gold and black squeeler diapers let me find a way out of any blitz and please baby jesus with your little crunchy yellow towel guide my blind wobbly passes to the promised land,” Ricky Ben Bobby. and Wieter went 0-4 in his debut so i’d trade him now while he still has the “new” thing going for him. he might just be the next Mark Parent.

lmmfao = lmao + an extra mofo in the middle.

BTW, I am not sure I “like” squealersquirrel – I realize you are bitter, but squirrels are closer to rats which make them closer to ratbirds which makes them actually closer to Ravens :)
