BTSC Steelers Daily Six Pack- Kindergarten Cop Edition
IX- Punter Daniel Sepulveda is still agonizing over his last punt in the 2007 Playoff loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Coach Tomlin is not allowing Sepulveda to punt during workouts, but the job is clearly Sepulveda's to lose according to John Harris of the Tribune Review.
X- The Steelers channeled Arnold Schwarzenegger in Kindergarten Cop and made a bunch of five year olds cry yesterday.
XIII- Are their complications with Dan Rooney becoming Ambassador to Ireland? According to Fox News, "The White House has yet to send Rooney's nomination to the Senate for confirmation." The White House says there is nothing to worry about, and frankly I don't have any clue if it really means anything, but hey, we have to have some controversy on a slow Friday in the offseason.
XIV- Frank Summers will have to share his jersey number 44. I guess if you have to share your jersey number with someone, the President of the Free World isn't a bad guy to do it with.
XL- We focus a lot, and with good reason, on Kevin Colbert's success with picking first round draft picks, but it should come as no surprise that our biggest rival has also been very successful with theirs. The Baltimore Sun (yes the newspaper from the fifth season of "The Wire" is real) ranks The Ravens' first round picks since 1996 and they are very impressive.
XLIII- In the near future you might be scratching off a winning lottery ticket with the Pittsburgh Steelers logo on it. I am all for this, especially if 2010 is an uncapped year, The Steelers will need all the revenue they can get in order to "keep up with the Joneses."

It’s encouraging that Sepulveda seems to have kept in very good shape. Last year was definitely a bummer though. At least Mendenhall can study the playbook on the sidelines and watch video, but for Sepulveda to get better he needs to practice. Studying theory, playbooks, and watching video isn’t really going to help him that much.
I don’t know, maybe he spent the whole offseason lifting weights with the left side of his body.

Ya,
I am worried about his effectiveness, especially if he doesn’t start kicking soon.

Steelers First round picks
I really liked the article by the Sun on the first round picks. It’s interesting to see how we would rank ours. It’s also interesting to compare our success in the first round to the Ravens. I would say the Ravens have hit a bit more often then we have in the first round since 1996, but that shouldn’t be a surprise considering where they were drafting.
Curious to see rankings of our first rounders by people.

2006: Santonio Holmes (25)
2007: Lawerence Timmons (15)

Excellent point about draft location. The steelers drafted on average at the 21.5th location. The ravens drafted on average at the 16th.

LOL
You know it’s a slow day at work when – I was just about to post the exact same numbers! Was curious to see how other good teams have done. I was abou to post Indy – but curious to see how NE, Philly, Giants, have done…. how have the good teams used round one?

My Ranks
1 Roethlisberger
2 Polamalu
3 (t) Hampton
3 (t) Faneca
5 Holmes
6 Scott
7 Burress (gets a knock for being #8)
8 Miller
9 Simmons
10 Edwards
11 Stephens
I excluded the last 3 because they still haven’t gotten enough PT. Going along with what you guys were talking about, it’s interesting that most of the Ravens’ big contributers have come in the top 10: Lewis, Suggs, Boulware, Ogden, McAlister. Props to them for not missing on those high pressure picks, but man, it must be nice to have access to some of those players. Oh well, we’ll have to settle for Woodley, Harrison, and Aaron Smith.

Miller?
I agree with that order for the most part, but I would put Miller up a little higher. Maybe tied with Holmes. It just seems like the guy is ALWAYS there for Ben, Plax was good but not consistent like Heath.

agreed
I would him above Plex and Scott, and I would probably put Hampton above Faneca…Faneca tried to cause a lot of chaos before he left, and he was pissy when Ben got the starting job.

Chad Scott was a beast for like 2 seasons, and while I probably would put Miller higher than him, It’s good to see Chad get some love.
Sadly Chad never had Dick Lebeau as his coordinator. He would have been much more appropriately utilized then. Chad Scott was the opposite of Ike, he couldn’t stay with anyone deep.
Sure he can score goals, but can he cook?

Quick question
Can anyone tell me how to insert a table? Have some interesting data that would be fun to put up, but hard to put it in without a table…..
by SteelerBuddha on May 22, 2009 12:50 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
You’d have to insert it as an image, it would have to have a URL. That’s with my limited knowledge, there may be a better way.

if your making it it’s own fanpost, I have used excell, then paste it using the “Microsoft word” button on a fanpost editor.
If your posting it as a comment, I would suggest using google docs and just linking to it.
