There is a lot of talk around the league about whether or not the steelers can repeat. But, as a fan of the Steelers that is not my concern. In my lifetime they have won two championships, which is a godsend, considering I have friends who have never seen their teams win a championship (poor Cardinal freaks). So needless to say, I would just be a bit greedy and a bit naive to assume or expect a repeat.
As it stands the Steelers last season gave up far too many sacks on offense and some fans say, "Get rid of so and so." or, "Get that guy, he was good in college." But, I say, "lets whip these s.o.b. lineman into better shape during the offseason with the best defense in the league." The potential is there and they have come through at some crucial times but as always the point of the matter is, that they need to get better. Even the best defense in the league could take a dose of improvement.
That's my point. Next season The Steelers do not face the same teams they did last year, even though they for all intents and purposes are the same. Washington has spent so much money on their defense that they'll probably blind a few unsuspecting eyes next year. The Browns have a new coach and a bright young Quarterback in Quinn. The Bears got Cutler, say what you will he can throw the ball well and can make a huge difference to a team that has been on the verge for years. Tampa bay has made some major and changes and two of them (Winslow and Ward) could be lethal in the next few seasons. Tom Brady will be back, who know's how he'll play but, Darth Belichick has and will continue to build his dark forces with additions like Fred Taylor, Galloway, Brace, and Darius Butler.
All in all I am happy with the Steelers' decision to keep what we have, add a natural DE like Hood and others to fill in, fortify and give depth to a great team on the rise. But remember, we may have won the Superbowl, but, we were very close to losing it as well. Next year I just hope that we are a better team than the Champions we were this year.
