How to deal with new fans

Craig from Akron writes: Why is every year a rebuilding year for the Browns? I am so disgusted that I am about to become a Steelers fan, at least they know what they are doing. I am getting sick just thinking about the Browns. At least we have the Cav's now. I really don't know who is worse Art Modell, or Romeo Crennel.... Why are we always rebuilding I guess is my question? Will my disgust ever be relieved?

This is from James Walker's ESPN AFC North blog.  As you can see, this man is leaning towards jumping ship and joining the Steeler Nation.  How do we deal with these newcomers?  Welcome them like the Yahoo! guys?  Or should we use them to infiltrate Cleveland and destroy the city once and for all?

Oh, If we destroy Cleveland we should probably take the Cavs and some of the Indians players too.

I feel so bad for those guys.

The sad thing is once Lebron goes to New York the Cavs will be back to sucking like the brownies.

if we could

see them it would be easier, cause we would know the guys with the pink shirts were the browns crossovers

The first thing I'd say is...

We don’t want you. At least to this guy. Steelers fans are not looking for stragglers from other less successful teams to jump ship. We want fans with conviction and loyaltly. If you’re going to drop your “favorite team” because they’re not doing well, find someone else to root for. If you want to be a band wagon fan go root for Dallas. We want football fans who aren’t going to leave for the next flavor of the week. Pittsburgh is a football city for football fans. If your coming into Steeler Nation to root for winner, first of all you came to the right place, but more importantly be here to be here. If your just passing through onto the next stop, then skip us all together, please.

Hate to admit it.....

….but I was a 49ers fan. I endured lots of bad things after the franchise went over to Eddie’s evil sister and her idiot husband. The draft of the QB whose name will go unmentioned was the last straw for me. They drafted him because they felt he would sign for a decent price……….that was it for me. I became a free agent fan. I was not going to support a franchise that didn’t care about winning, and didn’t care about it’s fanbase.
Chose the Steelers after a buddy gave me a Steelers toque for Christmas as a joke. They had gone 6-10 (2003) and soon drafted BigBen, who has now led the Men of Steel to two championships. Winning two SB titles has been great, but I have to admit – the best part of supporting this franchise has been the devotion of everyone involved with the team…..ownership, front office, support staff, players, and most of all fans …….. to everything black and gold. My living room now looks quite similar to the one on the NFL ad on TV……and this Christmas I received a Steeler helmet lamp……so no more “What’s with the lamp”. Steelers really are the best franchise in sports…..and this is the best fan website in all of sports too.
Thanks for listening…….I’m late to the party but I’m never leaving!!!!!

damn it, what?

destroy the city once and 4 all? “infiltrate”? c’mon man, let’s not get nerdy

When we hit you, you don't get up. When you hit us, we get up laughing.

Joke?

It is called a joke. It is a funny way to present the fact that Cleveland is so bad that people want to become fans of us.

And Nerdy? We all write on a website. There is a basis for “nerdy” in everything we do here.

Stand 'em in front of Deebo

If he does nothing, all is good. If he body slams them, they were a Brownie.

Makes me sick

Just found this site and I am thrilled to have intelligent discourse with real fans! First of all I grew up in Ohio about an hour south of Cleveland but have always been a STEELER fan. My whole family and friends growing up were Browns fans and living through the Bubby Brister years of steeler football was not easy!!(middle to late eightys)The Browns had Kosar, and a slew of really good players and although they broke the Cleveland curse of not winning in Pittsburgh I stuck through the tough years of bad football and it payed off. Now the Browns suck but my family sticks with them like real fans stick to there teams no matter how good or bad. So I say no way to people who drop there teams because of bad playing or not winning!

I am willing to give them a chance and here's two examples why:

Most Browns fans are from Cleveland or Ohio and I don’t think it’s fair to blame them for that.

Secondly, I liken it to that buddy of yours who’s dating a girl who’s completely wrong for him when there’s a perfect woman waiting for him. I applaud the Browns fan that realizes his mistake and knows when to cut ties.

As long as he/she speaks intelligently about our squad and follows the team completely, I think it’s only fair to give some one a second chance. And you can you blame anyone for wanting to root for America’s team (the TRUE America’s team)?
