Levi Jones
Do we have the cap room to make a competitive offer for him? He is only 29 years old. I know he missed several games last year due to injury. How serious was the injury? Will it affect him long term? Assuming he is healthy, he could give our line a major boost. We could insert him at RT or LT (and move Starks back to the right side). Either of those moves would improve our OL immensely. I have no confidence in Willie Colon whatsoever.

If he was released by the Bengals
at 29 years old, I would believe that his injuries are detrimental to his playing career because if he was healthy they would want him to protect Carson Palmer. This is a buyer beware situation. I don’t think Pittsburgh gets involved.

If we had any interest in a player like Levi Jones I don’t think we would of released Marvel Smith who is only a year older (30) and has had injuries that have kept him out of the starting lineup.
Why would we go after somebody elses injury riddled tackle when we have one who started a superbowl that we let go?

Easily injured...
I still like Adam Terry in a trade. He might even get cut, since he was the #2 guy before Oher showed up. He’s only played 5 years. However, a Ravens fan (52decleetzu) on the Baltimore Sun site summarized the way Baltimore fans feel about him. Says he lacks that “Orlando Brown craziness” needed to play RT. Could be, looking at Willie. Eh, never mind then.
Who knew?

Why?
Why would we sign someone in the same situation that Marvel Smith was in? Eliminate the risk of injury prone players. The only Steeler I would have been willing to take a chance on that was injury prone was Kendrell Bell, and he eventually fizzled out. He was some talent thought.

What ever happened to that guy?
I bet we could utilise him as a backup. I mean he went to KC and played in the wrong scheme. like when porter played in the 4-3 in miami and stunk, but then they switched to a 3-4 and he was amazing again. I’m not saying we need him or that he’s definatly any good, but he was a beast here and we could replace one veteran backup with another for dirt. just a thought.
it never got weird enough for me

Damaged Goods
Two years left on his contract, former first rounder, drafted an O lineman in first round this year specifically to replace Levi. Caveat emptor. Maybe Cleveland or Baltimore can sign him so Harrison can whip up on him. He was also a little soft. Didn’t Joey Porter whip his ass in a casino?

Joey Porter and about 6 other guys. Not exactly something to brag about.
It's still a good season if we go 2-14 and beat the Steelers twice.

Released by Bengals
That statement generally deems a player to be of poor quality to our system.

Doesn't that mean...
… that you should be out of football, considering the Bungals are the lowest on the NFL ladder(now that the Cardinals actually became significant for a season)

good call
I just submitted the term “released by bengals” to urban dictionary, I will let you know if they accept.
It was defined as “being the a horrible football player; you suck”

Lol
And obviously there are quality players on some low quality teams this I know. And granted some players in some systems just dont work right.
But the Bengals have neither of these types.

That argument is flawed.

I was wondering how long it would take before someone wrote that we should take a look at picking up Jones.

Probably not Levi, but someone
Jones probably just isn’t healthy enough but the Steelers were interested last year in defensive lineman Booger McFarland, who couldn’t pass a physical. We’re really thin still on O-line at all positions except center. The only backup tackle with game experience is Essex, who spent half of last year on the inactive list; the only backup interior O-lineman with game experience is Parquet , who has played two games in four seasons. I think there is a good chance we pick up a veteran T/G at some point. More teams will be releasing veterans this summer as they renegotiate contracts and sign rookies. We’re not the only team tight to the salary cap and there are guys around the league who want to be traded such as KC veteran all-pro guard Brian Waters.
