ALL INFO IS PROVIDED BY WALTERFOOTBALL.COM:
2009 NFL Draft Picks:
32. Evander Hood, DE/DT, Missouri
Aaron Smith's successor. This is a good spot for Evander Hood, who fills a need. With Alex Mack off the board, this was the right move. (Pick Grade: A)
79. Kraig Urbik, G, Wisconsin
Kraig Urbik is solid value and fills a position of need. Ben Roethlisberger has to love this selection. (Pick Grade: A)
84. Mike Wallace, WR, Ole Miss
The Steelers needed receiving depth. Mike Wallace is a solid talent and presents good value here. Based on these picks, it's no surprise that the Steelers are contenders year in and year out. (Pick Grade: A)
96. Keenan Lewis, CB, Oregon State
Keenan Lewis was a fringe second-round prospect and he fills a need. Another very nice choice by the Steelers. (Pick Grade: A)
168. Joe Burnett, CB, Central Florida
Another corner? Well, it's a need, and Joe Burnett fits this draft range. He can also be a return specialist. (Pick Grade: B)
169. Frank Summers, RB, UNLV
I mocked Frank Summers to the Steelers a round later. He can be the power, goal-line back they've been looking for since Jerome Bettis retired. (Pick Grade: B)
205. Ra'Shon Harris, DE/DT, Oregon
More depth up front is never a bad idea. This is Ra'Shon Harris' draft range. (Pick Grade: B)
226. A.Q. Shipley, C, Penn State
One of the top picks in the entire 2009 NFL Draft in terms of draft and positional value. A.Q. Shipley could have been a third-round pick, and he could be an upgrade over Justin Hartwig. (Pick Grade: A)
241. David Johnson, TE, Arkansas State
Heath Miller's contract is coming up, so David Johnson is a bit of insurance. Johnson provides OK depth here. (Pick Grade: B)
Offseason Moves:
Baltimore Ravens: The host dominates this rivalry, winning 12 of the previous 14 matchups. Pittsburgh won all three battles in 2008, though they were helped by Walt Coleman in Baltimore.
Cincinnati Bengals: The road team has mysteriously claimed six of the past eight meetings. Go figure.
Cleveland Browns: Will Cleveland ever beat the Steelers again? Pittsburgh has won 17 of the last 18 battles.

You’re seriously going to come here and post drivel like this? Twice?
That is the most generous rating of our draft I have ever, ever seen.
Don't worry about the haters. Haters only hate.
To be fair...
I don’t think he wrote the analysis. " ALL INFO IS PROVIDED BY WALTERFOOTBALL.COM:"
But I agree, the shot about Coleman, is a load of crap. Even if the ref had said it wasn’t a TD, which I think it clearly was. To think they would not have gone for it on the inch yard line and not gotten it is ridiculous.
That’s why I didn’t bother to rip into the draft picks, like…
With Alex Mack off the board, this was the right move.
Except the steelers had Mack rated as a 3rd round pick. They wanted Eric Wood.
I think a 9-12 win year is the most likely. There is a reasonable chance it’s above 12, and a very unlikely chance it is under 9.
The easiest prediction to make is that the bengals and browns will be complaining about something at the end of the year and praying to lose so they can get a better draft pick that they can squander.
Speaking of? Sanchez is getting paid almost as much as roethlisberger. Rookie contracts…stupid, stupid, stupid.
Don't worry about the haters. Haters only hate.
Are you kidding? The Browns have Brady Quinn the greatest thing to ever happen to professional football. And the Bengals have Carson Palmer, the QB who is way better than our Ben yet has 0 rings and way less 4th Q winning drives.
I think the Jets will be good this year. They will have a Ravens year, where the defense takes care of a lot and Sanchez hides behind a good running game. Speaking of, have they signed Jones to a longer deal yet?
Professional Football? Seriously when Brady Quinn gets through 4 snaps this year the NFL will have no doubt but to release all players not named Brady Quinn and call themselves the “Football league of players as good as Brady Quinn.” It will only have Brady Quinn. They will also rewrite all games to have been won by Brady Quinn, and all teams and trophies will be referred to as “Brady Quinn.”
Sure he can score goals, but can he cook?

Incorrect. The league will consist of Brady Quinn and Shaun Rodgers, the best defender to ever play football.
Dude
Only us over at Baltimore Beatdown are allowed to say that Shaun Rodgers is the best def player ever. We have been saying that for the last 6 months. Hell, since birth!
Dude is a stud and is better then Ngata and Hamption combined.
You have to hate losing more than you love winning.

on the draft rating? not doubting, just interested to read it.

If I'm not mistaken .. .. ..
the Steelers were aided by a Roethlisberger to Holmes touchdown pass at the end of a 90+ yard drive with under 2 minutes to go .. .. ..
I can’t begin to tell you how sick I am of hearing the dopes out there complain about the refs. I may have finally gotten to the bottom of it yesterday from one honest Iggles fan who said “The only reason I complain is because I am jealous .. .. ..” THERE IT IS, PLAIN AND SIMPLE.
There is no spoon
Oh and I didn't want to be overzealous...
So I voted for 9-12 (thinking 12). But god does that schedule look easy on paper right now.
I have been predicting a sweep of the rest of the AFC Norris and
have seen nothing yet to make me change my mind. The Ratbirds big chance was last year, the Clowns are rebuilding again, and the Bungles last real chance to win was ended in 2005 en route to our Number 5 SB run. Try as they may to play with us, they all have more question marks than do the Steelers and this trend of AFC North domination will continue.
The Ratbirds big chance was last year
Great point; it makes sense to think that a team would have its best chance with a rookie quarterback and head coach.
My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver
Now tell me how losing Scott and Leonhard will doom us
My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver
Come on man
Of course it is going to doom us. We have never been able to replace the position that Bart Scott held. Jamie Sharper, Adalius Thomas, and Ed Hartwell were all scrubs at that positon, then once Bart stepped in as an undrafted player, he did terrible. Baltimore is notorious for not being able to fill that position.
Then Leonhard, I mean come on man. He is the greatest thing since sliced bread and it is going to suck having Dawan Landry, who was the actual starting SS the last 3 years, start for us. Leonhard is that freaking good at playing SS, which is why he had to try out for us and was cut by the Bills. It is definitely not our system that made him good as well as teams only throwing at him to avoid Reed.
I would much rather have the 5’8" 185 pound Leonhard who posted 141 tackles, 1 sack, 3 ints and 1 td over 4 full seasons than have the 6’1" 220 pound Landry who has posted 162 tackles 4 sacks, 5 ints and 1 td over 2 seasons and 2 games last year.
Come on Baltimo, you know we are absolutely screwed without these two stud defensive players.
Sarcasm rules……
You have to hate losing more than you love winning.
u r screwed
cause you’re in the same division as the steelers

Wow!
Where did those draft grades come from? There are more As on that than my kids report card (and she was on the honor roll!).
As for predicting their win total for this year, what Steeler’s fan doesn’t go into the year believing we will go undefeated? Now, with that said, we all realize the Steeler’s have a tendency to play to the level of their opponent and lose some games they should not (Raiders a few years back for example). However, after watching them last year play the schedule they did, and win, I wonder if Tomlin is motivating them a tad better than Bill did, especially when they play weaker foes.
Anyway, I am not overly optimistic by nature, but I did get season tickets to the Miami Dolphins this year so I can (hopefully) see an undefeated Steelers’ regular season come to an end, then watch them in the Super Bowl.
Their schedule is lined up for a run. Outside of a tough one in Baltimore and (maybe) Chicago & Miami, their road schedule is weak: Cincinnati, Detroit, Denver, KC, Cleveland. Tough games at home against the Titan’s (tons of towels that night!), San Diego, Baltimore and Green Bay.
They play their first road game in Chicago after 10 days off. They play in Denver after an off week. They play in Cleveland on a Thursday night, but the week before Pittsburgh has a 1 o’clock game at home with the Raiders, the Browns play a 4:05 game at home against San Diego.
Anyway, you all know the schedule, and I am sure you have looked at it from every angle. If we play to the level we can, there are only 2 teams (3 games) that worry me, San Diego and Baltimore. Only because we played them each more than once last year and went 5-0 against them. These are good teams, heck Baltimore went 13-6 last year, 13-3 against the rest of NFL, 0-3 against the Steeler’s. Baltimore, defensively, should be a little weaker with whom they lost, but wil their offensive be a little more effective with a year under their belt? Will San Diego be stronger this year if everyone comes back healthy?
I am predicting at least a 13 win season. I would not be surprised with more, and I will be in Miami at season’s end, and right now I am hoping I will get to see perfection.
GO STEELERS!
First things first though, kick the crap out of the Titans!
I agree on motivation
I think Tomlin is a much more cerebral coach who’s motivation of the team is not so up and down and emotional as Cowher’s was.

Here we go folks
Firstly we have to remember that ALL the teams in this division have relatively soft schedules. We have it the best, and I’d say the Ravens have it the toughest. The browns/bengals are pretty much on-par but they dont have to play themselves.
I give Pittsburgh the edge at 14-2, we got this covered.
Ravens are going to be close but lose 2 to us so they get 12-4. They get the 5 seed most likely.
Bengals go 6-10
Browns go 4-12.
Why not
Steelers – 13-3
Ravens – 10-6
Bengals – 8-8
Browns – 3-13
Bleeding Black and Gold since 1989 baby, Blitzburgh is back, time for a repeat!
Hmm. Not feelin that one quite yet
I personally dont see the ravens going below 11-5 with the sched as it is.
And to me there has to be a decent drop between the top two and bottom two. Bengals are still a bit of a mess. The defense is kinda getting there, but the offense is a big big question mark.
Browns have nothing of course.
Just for fun
I’ll make more educated thorough explanations later.
Bleeding Black and Gold since 1989 baby, Blitzburgh is back, time for a repeat!
I don't think the Ravens will be nearly as good as last year and my primary
reason for this opinion is the loss of Rex Ryan. They’ll continue to be stout against the run for sure, but they will be picked apart by the better QBs. Also, with a year of tape on Unibrow, I doubt he’s gonna be as effective. Just a hunch.
Im half with you
I think we still sweep them, and I dont see them giving us as hard a time as they did this year. But to me they will keep it close if only because both our schedules are light and they will likely end up 1-2 games behind us when all said and done.
I dont see them going far in the playoffs yet though. I do think the D takes a step back. But I disagree, i think the offense gets better. Leron Mcclain will get better and Flacco can still throw <23 times and be good enough.
I see the Ravens giving us a hard time
If only because thats what they do
Offense may sell tickets, but defense wins championships

True
To me I think the games were all pretty rough indeed. Although with Limas making that catch we go up 21-0 in the AFCCG. That game to me was more honest of the series.
The Ratbirds are difficult every year for one reason or another but I have an honest feeling that it will be a little easier to put em down next year. Just a hunch.
The floor is 12-4
Cinci will improve, Ravens will take a step back, Browns are 4 win team … but remember, the entire AFC North plays the AFC West and NFC North this year.
Ravens haven’t put 2 good seasons together … EVER
Steelers 13-3
Ravens 10-6/9-7
Bungles 6-10
Browns 4-12
It’s hard to imagine the Steelers losing 3, but they could be “surprised” by Chargers, Vikings … somethin’ like that. Happens every year.
It will be interesting...
Ravens haven’t put 2 good seasons together … EVER
To see if they buy into that hocus-pocus.
by NYSteelersFan4 on Jun 17, 2009 12:24 PM EDT up reply actions
thats because they never had a consistant QB
Well guess what they have now?
Start looking for 2 good seasons and then some!
There is no doubt in my mind the Ravens take the AFC North
how can he be consistent? Did he play in the NFL for multiple seasons that I missed? He was good last year, but has only played one season.

OK lets try it again for the retards
The Ravens never have had a QB who was GOOD enough to win consistantly -
now they have a GOOD QB
any questions
Your second comment and your already making personal attacks…not our style bro. Grow up.

Well it’s easier to just call some one names than argue logically. Think how fun this board would be if we just insulted each other for believing different things.

Here's how i see it
I put W‘s for games i can 90% guarantee are “Locks” to win. ?’s for games that could go either way. And L’s for games i 90% guarantee are “Locks” to lose.
Steelers schedule:
Titans W
@ Bears W
@ Bengals W
Chargers ?
@ Lions W
Browns W
Vikings ? (With Brett Favre)
BYE
@ Broncos W
Bengals W
@ Chiefs W
@ Ravens ?
Raiders W
@ Browns W
Packers W
Ravens W
@ Dolphins W
Ravens schedule:
Chiefs W
@ Chargers L
Browns W
@ Patriots L
Bengals W
@ Vikings L (With Favre)
BYE
Broncos W
@ Bengals ?
@ Browns W
Colts ?
Steelers ?
@ Packers W
Lions W
Bears W
@ Steelers L
@ Raiders W
Of course injuries can change everything but, the way i see it, if the core players on both teams stay healthy for the big games, i see 13 “Locks” for Pittsburgh to win and 9 “Locks” for Baltimore to win.
I think San Diego will be strong next year with Merriman back and their D playing like they did two years ago so i can see a tough game going either way at home for Pitt and can’t see Baltimore winning San Diego’s home opener on the road.
I think Favre makes Minnesota a favorite to go to the Super Bowl so i see a Super Bowl preview in Pittsburgh on Oct.25 going either way and can’t see Baltimore winning at the Metrodome.
Baltimore will not win at Gillette. Sorry. Not gonna happen.
Not gonna win in our house in December either, sorry.
I’ve got three ? games for the Steelers that i think are definitely winnable but that the teams they are playing are so strong that i wouldn’t be shocked if we lost. Just great matchups.
For Baltimore i got 3 games as well. Cincy ????. Yeah i’m not sure you’re gonna win that one. Gut feeling.
Colts? After the beatdown they put on you last year, that game could go either way.
So the Ravens can go 9-7 if they lose those ? games. 12-4 if they win.
The Steelers on the other hand go 13-3 if they lose those ? games. 16-0 if they win!
Either way Ravens, you’re screwed…
Oh yeah, have you ever heard of the term “sophomore slump”? That’s what Flacco is starring at this year.
So now i ask you Purple bird? When you take the cockiness away and actually look at the schedules a little more closely, do you now have a “doubt” as to who will win the AFC North??
Otherwise, say something constructive with substance because that way YOU don’t look like the RETARD.
Brilliant!!!
This post was a masterpiece! Thanks for making my evening Freddyd.

Your welcome!
Purple bird had me all pumped up. Had to tell it like it is. There is no logical argument that you can make at this point in time that doesn’t make the Steelers the fav to repeat as Super Bowl champs, especially as AFC North champs.
Now, if the Ravens get Brandon Marshall, now you’ve got something you can argue with but, until then, you got nothin’.
Can we please get one more post?
Just to bump this one down. Not that I dislike the post, it’s a pretty good one. I’m just sick of seeing Rey Maualuga in a Bengals jersey, every day when I check this site. For me, please.

Oh Man
The lack of humility on this board is stunning! 13 games are a lock as wins? Man you better hope that you team doesn’t think that. Remember pride comes before a fall. Sorry but I think you are really going to be a lot more tired of seeing Rey the same way we get tired of seeing Troy. You guys should win the div but no way are 13 wins a lock. Frankly I see the Bengals splitting with you guys and the Ravens and possibly a sweep of the Browns. I see the following as a distinct possibility. I don’t expect you to agree.
Steelers 12-4
Ravens 10-6
Bengals 9-7
Browns 6-10
" My enemy said "Love your enemy". I obeyed and loved myself." Gibran
Nothing wrong with 12-4.
I put in “Lock” because i was a little emotional in response to a cocky ravens fan. No games are locks but, there are 13 games in there that i think they “should” win and will be favoured by at least 5 points by Vegas.
I could see us losing @ Baltimore which is why i put a ? on that one.
Everybody’s jumping on the Cincy bandwagon but, until they actually do something, i’m not drinking the kool-aid yet. Maybe next year.
At the end of the day though, your records for the afc north i agree are a distinct possibility.
