BTSC Steelers Daily Six Pack- Friday Edition
IX-This article came from the BTSC official twitter page, which if your not following, I don't know what your doing with your life. But anyways, this article will take about 6 days out of your life with it's detailed analyis of NFL defenses from relics like the "46", all the way to the origins of the 3-4 Zone Blitz scheme that Dick Lebeau is so famous for.
X-This article from bleacher report is a very interesting concept that needs further expansion. He dissects who were some of the sickest athletes in video game history. Examples are Mike Tyson is "Mike Tyson's Punch Out" who was nearly impossible to beat. The fondest memory of playing a video game with unstoppable players was NCAA 94' for the Sega Genesis. That game had two teams that you were unable to defend due to the quarterback play. One was the Nebraska Cornhuskers with the Tommy Frazier, and the other was the University of Colorado Buffaloes with future Steeler Kordell Stewart. Whenever you played with those teams all you had to do was pick a pass play and scramble for 15 plus yards.
XIII-Breaking news from James Walker of ESPN, the Offensive Line is the Steelers' main weakness. Walker also reported that water is a liquid.
XIV-It turns out the injury with Big Ben was due to a collision with Willie Parker during OTA's. When asked about the injury Parker said the following with a laugh:
"But he's definitely all right and he's a competitor. I guess he just likes a lot of attention sometimes and he likes being the little baby, but Ben is definitely a warrior."
XL-Rod Woodson has chosen his presenter for his upcoming induction into the Hall of Fame. Chuck Noll? Dan Rooney? Brian Billick? Nope, a friend from highscool by the name of Tracey Foster. Somewhat dull announcement, in other news Buffalo Bills' owner Ralph Wilson has chosen Chris Berman to be his presenter.
XLIII-For good luck over the weekend make sure to watch the Penquins game and to stop over at Pensburgh for their live chat during game five. GO PENS!

After a very quick look at the pic...
I thought it was Drew Brees and assumed Blitz was back in town. Clearly not the case. Good quote from Willie. Shows the good relationship between the two. To make a joke like that is just asking ESPN to run a ten minute special on the rift between Willie and Ben. Good thing Ed Werder wasn’t there, or he’d of ran with just this part:
I guess he just likes a lot of attention sometimes and he likes being the little baby
And all we would hear was how this was going to sink us. Keep up the good work Ed! I’m sure you and Pedro Gomez sit around waiting for something to make us fans miserable about our teams all day long.
Also Ralph Wilson probably would of had a tougher decision if Tim Russert was still with us. A legit newsman, something we lack in our current mainstream media.
This concludes the NYSteelersFan4’s regular attack on all forms of media post.

Ya, I agree Russert probably would of been the pick, but then again, the Tim Russerts son might of also been thought of too.

Way to go Willie, calling out Ben.
The big wuss, he should stop crying and whining about injuries and play like a man.
(You don’t think he heard me say that do you?)
Sure he can score goals, but can he cook?

OTA Notes - S. Logan looking like another D. Sproles
The latest in OTA news from our favorite insider at BTSC, J. Wexell, for June 4:
- Competition is heavy for the return spots on the roster, with rookie WR Mike Wallace the favorite for the no. 1 KR position and rookie DB "Smoking Joe" Burnett as the no. PR. With it looking like Burnett will be active on game days, Wex said the rookie will probably have to find another job to do as well. How about punt team gunner and kickoff team? A. Madison, is that your seat that is getting pretty warm?
- CFL star KR/PR Stefan Logan looks like another Darren Sproles, Wex said, but might not have the type of long-speed that Sproles has. According to a fellow scribe, Logan stayed after practice to race FWP this past week and lost by 5 yards. Free Agent WR Brandon Williams is competing with McDonald for that veteran slot receiver position. Williams will have to make plays as a kickoff return man to stick and appears to have the quickness and ability to do that job, he said.
- Free Agent WR Jayson Foster is cat-quick and a better downfield receiver than Logan. He’s more of a WR while Logan is a wingback/RB trying to play WR.
- The blocking backs for the group of KR men were, in order, Mendelicious, C. Davis and Justin Vincent. What, no Tank?
- Both Burnett and rookie CB Keenan Lewis seem to have great hands, according to Wex. He went further to say that he believes Lewis is going to be a player.
- Wex watched practice with 2 Pitt players and one of them was really intrigued by 6’4" WR Martin Nance and his route-running. Further talk about the WR position involved the good Sweed and the bad Sweed. The good Sweed made a great catch on an intermediate route from Ben between two players. The bad Sweed later dropped a perfect pass down the deep middle between two players. The saga continues.
- Just to give you guys something to think about, QB Dennis Dixon threw passes behind this OL: LT Jason Capizzi, LG Ramon Foster, C Doug Legursky, RG A.Q. Shipley, RT Tony Hills. Anyone think this line could block better than our starters?
- Rookie TE David Johnson made the Catch of the Day, a diving TD catch from Dixon in the corner of the end zone to end the hurry-up red zone session. (Matt Spaeth reportedly looked on in disgust and said, “Well, wait until you see my improved blocking!”
- Wex said he doesn’t usually ask about who is having a disappointing spring performance, but he believes that Bruce Davis might qualify. During one play, C. Davis ran a pass route, turned the 2nd year LB completely around and then eluded him down the sidelines. A collective groan went up from the D when Davis whiffed. The mistake got the 2nd year player a good talking to from his position coach.
- A sight that occurred well after practice: FWP, M. Moore, D. Townsend, Big Play W. Gay, Ike Taylor and B. Williams all running sprints with a sled of weights tied to them like a downed parachute. Under-promise, over-deliver, BABY!!!!!

Would you guys trade J. Harrison or L. Woodley for this player in their prime?

Would you?

i was thinking about it over the past few days and i decided i’d trade woodley if they were all in their prime because i know exactly what i’d be getting with Lloyd. loved that guy when i was a kid.
and of course. Let’s Go Pens

I think I would, yes
Mostly because Greg Lloyd’s resume is over a longer period of time. Woodley being younger is harder for me to say yes to – his best years should be in front of him. Harrison, I hate to say it, would appear to be at his apex right now. But very tough….

Good defense article
There’s a lot of info in there and the author really knows what he’s talking about. The article doesn’t explicitly state what type of defense the Steelers run (other than saying they use zone blitz concepts, which isn’t really a scheme), but if anyone is curious, they primarily use a 1-gap 3-4, lined up similar to how the author shows the “Bum Phillips” defense, although I think Keisel plays a 5 technique instead of a 4 tech. That’s why we don’t usually draft our DE’s early like the Pats do, because the Pats need super-human 2-gap DL’s to run their system. That’s also why I think Hood fits our system very well: he’ll be attacking a gap instead of controlling an OT and using his best attribute – his quickness – more than brute strength (which he still has).

How about the Tank?
I’m willing to give him a try before I make the call – BUT – that’s what he was drafted for, right? Big shoes to fill….no doubt…

…why do you continue to lift Wexell’s paid stuff and post it here?!? I can’t imagine that he appreciates it, nor do others that drop almost $100 annually for a membership to his SCI site. I don’t mean to be playing the role of a cop, and my apoligies if I appear to be standing on a soap-box. But please, stop sabotaging Wex’s paid site.

Response to Weegie
For those who don’t subscribe to it like me, I’m just paraphrasing some of his insights and passing it on for others to enjoy. The tidbits might actually drive more traffic to his site for those who want his entire articles, who knows?
If BTSC don’t want me to pass on any of his insights, then just let me know. No problem for me either way.
You guys decide.

In all seriousness, that probably is the thing to do.

Like I said before, it’s okay to point out a thing or too (I mentioned the bits about Lewis yesterday) but to paraphrase the whole article doesn’t seem right.

…IMO, what you’ve written above is alot more than just “paraphrasing”, nor is it a tidbit or two that might wet someone’s appetite for more. You’ve essentially re-written almost all of Wexell’s inside info from an OTA. Simple logic dictates that if you can get all that info here for free, why in the world would anyone pay to get it directly from Wexell’s site?!?
So if Wexell is truly “BTSC’s favorite insider”, how about if we do him a favor and refrain from de-valuing the hard work that he performs for his paid subscribers? That might score you some points with the crowd here…but it does little to help Wexell, a great Steeler beat writer (perhaps the best right now) and genuinely good guy. Please respect what the guy is doing with his site.

…so if you enjoy a certain restaurant, but can’t afford it, do you go ahead and eat there and then leave without paying?? If enough people did that, the restaurant would have to close because it couldn’t afford to exist.

Weegie...
I doubt that Wexell is gonna close up. He should just take the advertising revenue and be done, because I will never give anyone a dime for their web news. I would probably buy some of his books though, as I hear they are good. In this day and age, there is plenty of free news to read and that’s the variety I prefer. If he can’t make it on web ad revenue and book sales, I guess he’s gonna close…

So as not to offend Weegie ....
I won’t pass on any more notes from Wex. Take care.

I think you should take worldtrip’s suggestion. Wexell may not mind. In fact, maybe he would even be willing to supply cliffnotes (okay, he won’t go out of his way to do extra work for free) that he’d be okay with. When in doubt, communication is key.

Feedback from Wexell
I posted a note on the SCI website over the weekend requesting Wexell’s thoughts on having his insider info provided here for free, and also whether or not he should simply be making enough money from “advertising”. He replied this morning…
“Yes, I’m against stealing the info and posting it elsewhere. I think an item or two is enough and would possibly spur others into joining our site.
As for the advertising money, it’s pennies. We’re also having a problem with someone here posting at the CBS message board as “Beachbum.” I guess they’ll only learn when this site is completely crippled."
Thank you all for your consideration and please refrain from undermining Wexell, an insider that many of us respect and value.

Let me just say, I am undecided on this problem…but it does raise some interesting issues on internet publication.
First, it seems to be counterintuitive for information “published” on the internet to be subject to restrictions that are not placed on newspapers. People (even entire offices) often share a newspaper subscription, thereby allowing many to get a story for free. The internet is built to allow us to share content faster than print (though often sacrificing reliability)…unless you put blanket restrictions on it. However, the internet also allows you to share that content with exponentially more people and kill a lot of the profit motivation.
I am sympathetic that people have found it tough to monetize their sites. Ultimately, I think the answer is advertising and not subscriptions. If you produce enough demand for your product, advertisers will not ignore you. As for this particular situation, I would say that his “advertising” revenues are likely lowered by the fact that it is a pay site, and thus attracts less readers than a free site. And as much as I (and a lot of others) love the Steelers, there isn’t going to be enough demand out there for training camp tidbits to make someone rich…nor should there be. He’s not turning out poorly-written vampire novels on that site. If he was, advertisers would come calling.
Also, in general, internet content producers seeking subscription revenues should at least acknowledge their hypocritical desires. They use the internet to post information more often and with less oversight. They no longer have to put in the hard work it takes to get published in print and often receive quicker recognition because of the viral nature of the internet. Yet they complain about the internet’s accessibility when it hurts their ability to profit.

who cares..it’s all just boring steeler news. i can’t believe people pay for that. what is very entertaining is the quote by parker calling ben out as a little baby. little baby lol. man he must really hate the guy. little baby. what is ben going to do about being called a little baby? is this disrupting practice? will parker get the ball anymore? they should fight it out. ben was totally dissed.
