America's Most Hated Teams/ Steelers In Top 5
In a poll taken by ESPN, Dallas overtook New England (surprisingly) to win the title of America's most hated team.
Only five teams were listed as possible answers, led by the Cowboys (36%), Patriots (34%), Steelers (12%), Giants (9%), and Raiders (9%).
I am shocked to say that the Steelers made America's top 5 most hated teams.. I'm very disappointed!
12 percent of voters hate the Steelers..must be the jealous reporters again. We are getting snubbed right and left. Ben isn't ranked in the top five, we are America's top five hated teams, the Madden rankings didn't do our team justice either (Santonio only 86, Ike around 88 with only 86 speed,...not that madden rankings matter), among other weak rankings.
Any thoughts??

Well you don't play the season
in the newspapers or on Madden, so I wouldn’t worry about it.
And if people hate the team, that means they are doing their job.
Not very surprising, actualy
We have the #1 D in the NFL. We have the most underrated SB winning QB. We have a wide out that hits people harder than alot of LB’s in the league, and smiles all the time. We have a coach that doesn’t run his mouth about stupid shit, and the best godamn DC in any league. What’s not to hate? ROFL!!!!!
Thank you drive through...
With luck...
We can move up to the two spot after winning another ring or two in the next couple years.
Yeah its normal
People dont like us for two main reasons. We are boring, and we win.
Truth be told 90% of the time are plays do not contain too much fun. We dont have combos named “flash and dash” or fancy nicknames for our players. We are what we thought we were and we are winners.
People never like that.
We are who we thought we were!!!!!!

Please god give me Steeler football soon……

Glad you caught that ref
I love that clip and I love using that phrase as often as possible.
And we let em off the hook!
Why people don’t like the current Steelers.
We got Ben third of the QB’s in his class and he’s the best of them by far.
Hines Ward hurt their Linebacker (and his feelings too.)
James Harrison was available to every team how many times?
Jealousy over Troy’s hair.
They hate paper towels and secretly wish their kicker was Jeff Reed.
Dan Rooney is an ambassador now, and their owners will never measure up.
Most boring Superbowl, and then what may be the best ever Superbowl and we won them both.
We won a Superbowl with a worse offensive line then their team’s.
And lastly,
We’re gonna be better this year than last.
Also because Steeler fans come from anywhere and everywhere, invading other stadiums to watch their favourite team

You should NOT talk about bandwagons as a Ravens fan
I saw the ridiculous increase in Ravens fans here that year you won the superbowl.
by John Stephens on Jul 15, 2009 8:14 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah dude nobody bandwagons for pittsburgh
I’ve never seen anybody jump on the Burgh’wagon ever. I mean come on did you not see the super bowl. Everybody was a “cardinals fan” (as if there was such a thing). We’ve been packing our stadium out for years now. You need people to die to get season tickets. Dont start.
The nice thing
Band wagon fans tend to fall off when the team starts to lose.
Being a Steelers fan is nice because they are consistently good so it’s easier to stay on the wagon. For teams like the Bears for instance you see people jump on and off depending on how well they’re playing, but with the Steelers you can be confident you’re no more than 1-2 years away from having a playoff contender. So your definition of band wagon fan would change.

My Stance
A person from Kansas whose parents never grew up being Steelers fans roots for the Steelers. I strongly believe that you should support the team that represents your area or is close to it.
I’m from Baltimore and couldn’t even think about liking another team. I can’t tell you how many fakes I see at my college. I ask them questions about the Steelers and it turns out that I know more then they do.
Unless you grew up having your parent root for the Steelers, you should represent your hometown team. I know there is no possible way that everyone on this blog grew up with Steeler parents or are from the area. Probably some guy from California who chose them because of their colors.
You have to hate losing more than you love winning.
i’m from cali and chose the steelers because rod woodson was UNSTOPPABLE in tecmo super bowl.
Why should I change my name? He's the one that sucks!

Unless you live in Detroit
I know a guy, couple actually, who live in Detroit. They always liked the way the Steelers play, appreciated the management style, and found their overall method of execution to be quite admirable.
And their hometown team was the Detroit Lions. They’ve been devout Stiller Fans for over 20 years each. Never switching.
You can make the switch too Mr. Malor.
Maybe tomorrow. Beat us 3 more times and I will consider it. Deal?
You have to hate losing more than you love winning.
are you serious?
if so i’ll meet you in pittsburgh and buy you dinner at jerome bettis’ grill. although it might not be till late 2010 if we don’t meet in the playoffs again.

I'd argue against you Malor (not unusual there)
You know I am from the Baltimore area, and even if my mother was not a Steelers’ fan, I do not think my allegiance would be far fetched. Its not like the Ravens have been around my entire football watching career. So when I started watching it was either Washington Redskins (fuck that, then I woulda been a bandwagon) or the Steelers. I went with the Steelers mostly because of Woodson and later Bettis, also my favorite color was yellow (not a great reason I know, but I was really young).
I can understand people not supporting the teams near them as long as they don’t join directly after a championship and they actually know something about the team they claim to be a fan of.

Ok
There are exceptions of course. Your situation I can understand. I was not into football until the Ravens came to town (only 8 years old at the time). Then of course I got addicted.
I know that most people here are die hard steelers fans, just as I am with the Ravens. But I see sooooo many Steeler fans that have liked the team for about 4-5 years.
If live in like south dakota or something, I guess go ahead. But I would support the team closest to me. Cant tell you how many fakes I see at UMD, Johnny.
You have to hate losing more than you love winning.
What if you don’t have a hometown team?
I don’t think I’d hold anyone to that. If someone was from Oakland and wanted to cheer for another team because they were sick of their fanbase/management, I don’t have a problem with that.

And that is what happens too often
People who live in like San Diego root for the Packers or something? There are people around my area of Baltimore who love the Steelers. Grew up in Baltimore and all that.
Thanks for all of you not lashing out on me though for this, I expected some pretty harsh replies but did not get any. Appreciate it and I hope you all see the viewpoint I am coming from.
You have to hate losing more than you love winning.
There are many reasons for choosing a team
I grew up in northern Iowa and by all rights should be a Vikings, Packers, Bears or Chiefs fan. Since the Steelers became dominant in the early 70’s, they were also frequently on TV. My father was not much of a football fan, however, I had a much older brother who was a diehard Cowboys fan. The combination of being good, being on TV frequently and being a constant thorn in the side of my older brother’s favorite team led me to become the diehard fan I am today.
I guess you could call me a bandwagon fan since I started rooting for the Steelers more than 35 years ago when I was about five years old. But I’ve never rooted for anybody else. (Unless you consider the fact I root for whoever plays the Cowboys and Patriots on any given week) Why should somebody be stuck rooting for a local team if they don’t like them? I tend to think blindly following the masses is a bit shortsighted. More folks should make up their own minds regarding things as opposed to having their decisions made for them by others.

i'm surrounded by raiders and 9ers fans here is northern cali
but i’ve always been a steelers fan. always been a penguins fan too, instead of the sharks. but with baseball, i’m an A’s fan. basketball, i’ll watch the kings, but hate the warriors…i’m a spurs fan.
i think true fans either identify with a town/region, a team philosophy (i’m a fool for defense), or a player.
for me, rod woodson was my fav player early on. liking woodson opened my eyes to greg lloyd, david little, carnell lake, kevin greene and the birth of blitzburgh.
now, i would never be anything but a steelers fan. my family is from pittsburgh, but i’m not. i’ve only been to the burgh 4 or 5 times, and never seen a game there (only in oakland, unfortunately). my family provides more sentimental reasons to like the steelers than anything else…my mom worked a charity event with mr. rooney back in the 70’s…that’s what she still calls him, “Mr.” because of how gracious he was to her and to whatever org they were working with. my grandma cried when myron cope died because her sons were raised listening to him…and even now when she gets excited about something she screams “yoi!”
for me, i chose the steelers because i identified with the players, then with the team philosophy. ..but if i would’ve been a cowboys fan my dad woulda sent me packing years ago….
Why should I change my name? He's the one that sucks!

No brainer
They hate us the same reason we hate the Patriots. And don’t say “we hate them cause they cheated!” That’s BS, I hated Brady and Co. way before that.
If someone repeatedly kicks your ass over and over again, you’re not exactly going to love that person.
Hating the giants is pretty funny…I think that 9% is all NE votes.
With that, I don’t sweat the 12% that the steelers garnered. As BM alluded to above, if you asked baltimore, cleveland, and cincy, would you really expect any other answer?
