Best Fans in NFL
via argville.com
Recently, NFL.com's Jamie Dukes rated his best NFL fans. Of course Steelers were #1. I checked ESPN and found out that they rated Steelers as #1 in August 2008. So, there is a consensus in media that we are the BEST :) fans in NFL.
Found this ancient post from the year 2000 where an author includes Steelers to the dishonorable mention of worst fans by attitude category. Overall I found his story interesting as there are some funny quotes like this one: "... ANY TEAM WHOSE FANS GANG UP ON TWO STEELERS FANS AND SEND THEM BOTH TO THE HOSPITAL LOSES 100 POINTS!!!"
So my question is:
Dear Steelers fans, please take off your black and gold colored glasses, and try to remember if you witnessed any anti-social or vulgar behavior by Steelers fans during the games?
If so,
Considering the fact that many people go to games with their children, is there a way to minimize the so called anti-social behavior during and after the games?

Kids
Reminds me of my son’s first NFL game, Browns ’02, the one where TMaddox came off the pulled it out in OT.
First off, I LOST my then 9-year old boy at halftime. Long story, but we agreed not to tell his mother about that little incident.
Then…on the way out of the stadium, a nice young couple are talking to him, rub his head, say, “Howdja like the game, Buddy.”
They move on, my kid says to me, “Daddy; why do their t-shirts say ‘F-word Cleveland’?”
We agreed not to tell his mom about that little incident either.
You have a 16 year old?
What are you Abraham or something? Just kidding. My son was 16 when I took him to his first Steeler game (at Heinz) Jets game in 2004. I used to drink and harrass opponents’ fans so I always left him at home. Bettis had a rushing and passing TD in the game and I was well mannered…though he hit a Jets fan in the head plenty of times. Great seats compliments of a person very close to Steelers fans hearts.

Two seasons ago, week 3 San Fran v. Pitt, in Pitt
I went with a 2 friends of mine, one a Niners fan. The only offensive stuff I heard was from the Niners fan, and I told him to shut up about a dozen times. He took some solid friendly ribbing from the fans, who chanted “Frank Gore!” off and on through out the game (he was wearing a Gore jersey).
Someone, another Steelers fan from the next row back, gave him a wet-Willie. Yeah, you heard me, a wet-Willie. To which we all responded almost at the exact same time, “Who gives someone a wet-Willie after the second grade anyway?”
Not really the offensive stuff you referred to (where did you get that picture of my kid?… Haha) But a story that should make us all think about our gameday actions none the less.
as long as people binge drink the behavior will never stop. most of us went through it and, out of 70,000 people, 100 or so might be high as a kite come game time. 99.9% of all fans react reasonably. A small few with beer muscles will always stand out. i shaped up for 2 reasons: i got older and i don’t want to lose my season tickets at the whim of some usher. the worst thing i ever did was knock the cheese off a packer fans head in the rest room (and bravely disappeared quickly amongst the crowd). i was a happy drunk who like heckling Billick more than any Pitt. fan. I knew each loss moved him closer to the door. LOL.
You nailed it
MOST (not all) of the abusive behavior at games is due to alchohol. I’d be happy if they never sold it at all.
Not to mention that most people show up loaded from tailgating. It’s not the $7 beers that do people in, it’s the drinking beforehand.

12 dollars for a 30 pack and 8 dollars for a fifth. Thats breakfast right there for me, my brother and my dad before we go in.
You have to hate losing more than you love winning.
Good move

Hey Bonek, I simply LOVE that picture....
…so what if the kid is Dutch and doesn’t know American football from Aussie Footie….
he’d look great in Black and Gold at Heinz Field anytime!
I agree with you...
for 100% !
If I find time, I may photoshop his jersey into Black and Gold. Or, someone else could.
i've seen that kid!!
he pulled a knife on me in the parking lot at a raiders game 3 years ago.

i agree with us being ranked #1 by the one guy @ nfl.com
but how bout the joker ranked us the #2 organization right now…and ranked the pats better. he said he took a lot of different qualities into account, but they didnt always make sense. for instance, he’s only looking at who’s good RIGHT now, but he took into account the cowboy’s superbowl victory THIRTEEN years ago. that would be like the steelers referring to the “recent past” of winning the ‘79 superbowl immediately preceding the ’93 season. 2) his numbers adding up the number of starters for the steelers starters for their 08 team that were “drafted” were 17. but he didnt count parker (which we signed him undrafted & no other team did) but did count stapleton. where’s the logic in that? and why not count parker because he is “homegrown” since he never played on another nfl team. if we can get away with signing a great player, but dont have to use a draft pick on him isnt that better than using one on him? 3) he talks about the pats being able to over come losing great peices of their organization & continue to be great, but one of the ppl he talks about is scott pioli. they havent even played a season yet without him, so how do they really know if the pats will continue to do well without pioli. 4) i’m not for one about dredging up the cheating the patriots did & dont really feel it calls into question the championships they’ve won. but when considering the best organization in football right now, you have to consider it & he didnt
completely agree with you...
we have to take into account the integrity of the owners’ of organizations as well. There are very few teams who didn’t change owners since 1930’s. Papa Rooney endured 40 years of losing seasons. He didn’t sell his team, he didn’t move it to another city… Now this is something.
Pats as #1 organization for their accomplishments after 1994… what a joke! I wonder what’d Bob Kraft do if he’ll get an offer to sell his team for 2 billion $$.
Glad people recognize
Yeah I love the way we invade stadiums and get to be the last men standing most of the time. Very enjoyable.
