Roethlisberger to give statement today at 2:00 PM
regarding the rape allegations of the civil lawsuit that he was served with last Friday. Let's hope it helps to allay our fears about this situation. Roethlisberger's attorney said that he definitely didn't assault that hag, or anyone else, so let's hope that he give us some reassurance. He probably won't have a lot to say and won't answer any other questions. Don't worry, Big Ben, the Steeler ladies are behind you and won't let you down!!

He definitely has the Steelers Ladies in Va behind him. Both my mom and I are die hard fans and we fully support Ben. If he winds up guilty, then we will be saddend, but will NEVER stop loving the team and the Rooneys

Just to add here
The police have stated that they will not conduct an investigation due to the absence of criminal charges.

I think I read that...
She could file one after the civil suit if she wins. Then she could use some of the stuff for the civil suit in the criminal suit. I dunno how true that is though.
by John Stephens on Jul 23, 2009 1:31 PM EDT up reply actions
This doesn't guarantee Ben will win the lawsuit, but...
…the fact that the State of Nevada has come out and said it does not intend to file criminal charges against Ben is a positive development. This means that, as far as Nevada authorities are concerned, there is no probable cause to believe that Ben committed sexual assault against McNulty based on the available evidence. It is incredibly unlikely that Nevada would exercise its discretion in declining to file charges when it appears that there is probable cause to believe Ben committed the alleged offense.
Some sources have made it sound like McNulty is choosing this path on purpose, pursuing a civil claim first after which she might then decide to file criminal charges. In reality, this is nonsensical. You will almost always see the criminal trial first, and this is usually the most favorable sequence of trials for the victim because (1) criminal trial almost never involves any financial expense for the victim, (2) the process of getting to criminal trial is a lot faster, and (3) if the defendant loses then that should significantly increase the probability of a civil settlement because of the lower evidentiary standard in the civil court. In the end, there is simply no advantage for McNulty to pursue a civil claim first if she has a choice.
This is the likely explanation: McNulty and her attorney have quietly, behind closed doors, already held discussions with Nevada law enforcement authorities and/or state attorneys to see whether the state would be inclined to file charges based on the evidence that McNulty can provide, and the state indicated it would not because the evidence isn’t persuasive. Therefore, not having the option of pursuing Ben with criminal charges, McNulty and her attorney have simply decided to move forward with the civil lawsuit.
I can’t promise this, but I am almost certain this is what would have happened. IMO, this is the only logical explanation for (1) Nevada coming out so quickly with its statement that it will not be filing charges against Ben, and (2) McNulty moving forward with just a civil claim.
A theory
My dad and I were discussing it this morning and it could be that she doesn’t expect to win the case outright and instead will just try to settle outside of court. Basically, if she’s faking it all, she could be just be saying that she’s paid $380,000 in damages and demanding all that money, when she’s really just hoping to get a big settlement check instead. If Ben were to say out in the open @ 2pm that he will not settle with her and that he 100% denies her allegations, it’d make me feel a whole lot better about it. Still the downside to that would mean that the court issue could take a lot longer and still be a lingering distraction throughout training camp.
Bottom line is that I hope it’s a whole repeat of the Bettis case back in ’02. That woman tried to frame Jerome and was caught.

OMG, my heart just broke for him. He looked and sounded so upset, Coach Tomlin was standing behind him which was comforting. Oh I just wanted to hug him and bake him cookies.
So what did he say????

it was a very good statement. He was concise and said that he would fight the reckless accusations
to protect his family, himself and the team. NFL Network showed it and ESPN will as well.

But I guess that’s it in a nutshell. My feed went black just as Ben was about to speak, so I can’t say firsthand if there was more than that.
The stream didn't work.

Here is what he said:
I did not sexually assault Andrea McNaulty. Saturday was the first that i learned of her accusations. Her false and vicious accusations are an attack on my family and on me. I would never, ever force myself on a woman. I’m going to fight to protect my family and my reputation. I’m not going to discuss my private life or this civil case in the media. I’ll respond to her outrageous allegations in the appropriate forum. I have an obligation to our fans, to my teammates, to my coaches and everyone in the organization to remain focused on the Pittsburgh Steelers and i will do that. The allegations against me are reckless and false. As much as i would like to answer everyone’s questions, I’m giong to respect the legal process and i am confident that the truth will prevail. Thank you!

My Only Complaint...
I felt he read off the paper a little too much. Not that I disbelieve him, but you know the haters are going to scrutinize any bit of minutia they can.
Sounded like he was fully behind what he said.
Notice he never stuttered, and seemed confident in what he was saying. To me he actually seemed pretty pissed.

Good Point as well
HSSteeler,
That is a good point as well. He didnt stutter or get flustered. You could sense the emotion when he talked.
I agree and understand
But at the same time he has to. If you notice in any case like this the defendant will read off of a written statement as not to incriminate themself.
Lawyers could and would scrutinize everything he said down to the punctuation, diction, and grammar. I am sure that the statement was not just written in a minute, but labored over to make it perfect.
by John Stephens on Jul 23, 2009 2:49 PM EDT up reply actions
For heavens sake, what did you expect????
He’s being sued for hundreds of thousands of dollars.
There is no way ANY lawyer would allow him to get up there and say ANYTHING off the cuff. Every word that came out of his mouth was either vetted or crafted by his lawyer.
This has nothing to do with guilt or innocence. This is just the way the system works in the real world. This play was called by his legal coach. He was NOT permitted to audible even a single word.
My Only Complaint..
Is he didn’t break down and cry for 45 minutes and fall to the ground with slobber stringing from his bottom lip only to be helped up by his bug eyed coach.
I've seen Jim Harbaugh
cry more to officials during our annual match ups then newborn infants.

Ben’s statement was really heart felt. You could feel the emotion as he was reading it. I believe with all of my heart and all of my being that Ben did not do it. Seems to weird that the so called victim would wait for a year to go bye before saying or doing anything. She is just looking for some money. She will be shut down!
If she thought she was scared before,
maybe we should tell James Harrison to go set her straight.
