Steve McNair found shot to death

http://www.newschannel5.com/Global/story.asp?S=10643962

http://cbs4.com/national/Steve.McNair.shot.2.1071568.html

Theres various other links all over the internet, but no one big like ESPN or yahoo have reported it yet. Still, it seems legit to me.

Sad to see, especially considering what has been happening to celebrities over the past few weeks. This is getting ridiculous. He may have been a rival but you still hate to see this happen.

R.I.P. McNair

Man...

In the “punch in the face” thread, I said he needs to be put in a wheelchair. Now I feel bad…
Didn’t want him to die, I just wanted him to ‘feel tha pain’, as it were.

R.I.P. if it’s true

Thank you drive through...

RIP Air McNair.

I can still remember thinking to myself when we drafted Ben “now we’ve got our own McNair.”
As much as I hated seeing him twice a year in Houston and later in B-more, he was a very much respected opponent.
My prayers go out to his family and friends.

I remebered being bothered by that "punch in the face thread'

He was one of my favorite players in the NFL. I loved Steve as a person and player.
I can’t stop crying. This is too much.

Farewell Steve

R.I.P. Steve, even though you were the “Stilla Killa.”

My "game-manager" QB just won the Super Bowl, while your stat-whore of a quarterback sat on his couch and watched!

If McNair had been a Steeler we all would have loved him...

There are some guys you just hate to play because you know they’ll fight and scratch and claw for 60 minutes. McNair was one of them. He reminded me of Ben in some ways. Didn’t always look pretty, took a lot of shots, wasn’t a great scrambler but you couldn’t get him down. He was tough as nails and he always seemed to keep his team in the game. He could look like crap all afternoon but when he had to make a play he usually made it. I never liked him because he made so many of those plays against us. If he’d been a Steeler, though, I would have loved him.

One of those guys

Who play the game like it should be played, down in the mud, hard, and fighting for every inch. The prima donna QB’s of this league should take a note from this guys career, he was true heart and power on the field, and i had major respect for him as a player

RIP McNair……its never the way you want to see a guy go

Man I always liked the guy

That’s a rough day for a Titans fan or Ravens fan.

R.I.P. Air McNair

He played with a pride and a dignity that made it easy to appreciate him. Condolences to his family and friends.

Sheese!

The obituary column for celebrity type people has been growing at an alarming rate latelyl
As I write this and listening to the late TV news report it sounds like a murder suicide committed by a 20-year-old lady friend. Whatever, Steve McNair was one heckofa football player. Man did I hate to see him behind center when the Steelers played the Titans or of late the Ravens. An 11-5 record against the Steelers says it all. RIP Steve.

Deebo will miss him....

It was McNair at the helm on that Monday night in November, 2007 when the Steelers welcomed back their 75th anniversary team and Harrison turned in the greatest defensive performance in team history. Three-and-a-half sacks, two forced fumbles, an interception, and a partridge in a pear tree, All that – and a bag of chips – in the first half of a 38-7 romp.

McNair was a warrior and a great team leader and field general. He was a worthy adversary, always willing to play hurt and give it everything he had.

He may have been 11-5 against the black and gold, but Silverback had his number. RIP.

As a Steeler fan you have to respect this guy, even if that respect comes with a side of hate. Truly a warrior.

This is crazy

He was a QB who played the game with real grit. I always thought he would be that old QB that would surface every now and again and share some stories about being in the trenches. Thats the perspective I want, somebody who battled every week and had to be dragged from the game when it was his time to retire.

R.I.P. Mr.McNair

it never got weird enough for me

A sad day for Football.

McNair was a great face for the game. Said the right things, played hard and won, a great leader.

Lists...

Lately, BTSC seems to be on a list kick. If we were to do a list of guys we hated to face, Steve would have to be up there. Sucked to be us to have to face the guy twice a year.

RIP Steve McNair.

RIP Steve

Along with Tom Brady, Steve McNair was THE Steeler Killer during the last decade. He was the QB I didn’t want to face. Granted we pounded him the last time we saw him with Baltimore in James Harrisons coming out party but Air was at the end of his career. He had a knack for making the big play at the end to win the game (except in the SB against the Rams) and regularly provided beat downs to my beloved Steelers.

News outlets are reporting that the young woman found with him may have been his “girlfriend” and I read one report that her ex boyfriend reported that she thought Steve was going to leave is wife and kids and take care of her. Apparently both their names were on the lease of the townhouse where they were found and both names were on the 2007 Escalade that she drove around TN in. Apparently she and Steve were pulled over a couple days ago and she refused the breathalizer stating “I’m high, not drunk.” McNair was aloud to leave the scene as he was a passenger and she was reportedly detained. Some think she may have killed him and then herself. The amount of bullets found in McNair plus the head shot tells me whoever murdered him was in a fit of rage about something. In bitter irony I also read that Sahel Kazami (the girls name) translates her last name in Arabic to mean “one who controls their anger” or something like that.

I have to say that I really respected McNair as a player. It is disappointing that he was “shacked up” with a young waitress while married with young children. It goes to show that we should not worship our sports idols, politicians or anybody. McNair, Brady, Roethlisberger, Polamalu are human beings and we are all fallible. Better to hold yourself in high esteem and be the best person that you can be. RIP Air McNair. You did not deserve your fate. I send condolences to your wife, children and family and those that loved you.

I hated this man on the field.

But off the field he is that, just a man. Today is a loss for anyone who cared about McNair in his career and I respected him as a football player. We see these people as warriors in their helmets and pads, this shook me and I think like Sean Taylor a few years ago, this is just another tragic shot to our system of how real these “Superstars” really are.

Thanks for the memories Steve, even the heartbreaks.

by gimpsta7 on Jul 5, 2009 2:48 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Agreed

But Sean Taylor was bigger to me, and I think alot of others since he was still in the league, and would have an impact as to how his team played. McNair was retired, but that doesn’t change the fact that this is a tragedy to his family, fans, and anybody else that respected him as a footy-footy-football player.

In respectful memory, god will greet you as a friend.

Thank you drive through...

Just my 2 cents

I agree with a lot of your responses. McNair was a pain in my rear end on the field. He become a Steeler killer. However, the coach in me made me respect the heck out of him. He wasn’t flashy or pretty but he got the job done with regularity. He was a smart player. He came from division II, picked up the game and adjusted to the speed very quickly. On the personal level, I never heard anything in the media of off field problems. As far as the deal with the young lady, I’m not going to point a finger. I have done things (not spectulating on what he’s done) that could have easily ended the same way for me. I hate for anyone to have their life end this way. My prayers go out to his family and the family of the young lady.
