Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

The team is not speculating on what has happened to the two time Super Bowl champion. But according to various sources both Mike Tomlin and Ben Roethlisberger have stated Ben will be O.K.

Certainly not good news for the Steelers, but hopefully it is just a minor setback.

Slow news day, I hope

Ben has reached that level of status that if he sneezes it’s a cause for headlines. Plus the press is hard up for some drama, any drama.

it means Batch and Dixon will get some more reps on Saturday

Starks is a plague

Get mad at me, whatever. I really dislike Max Starks as a player. He has also seemed clumsy, lazy, and just doesn’t know what’s going on a lot of the time. He almost gave up a safety this past pre season game even.

I’m not hating on the guy just to hate on him like some people do to most people. Also I know he didn’t mean to do this to Ben. I’m just taking the opportunity to express how I have always thought he was bad news for us.

He is smart, and very well spoken. He just doesn’t belong on the football field most plays.

Starks is just average

Never more, and at times less. Still looking at the rest of our line, he is one of the better players. IMO he still belongs at RT. I see him get beat way too many times by pure speed and power to make me feel comfortable about him protecting Ben’s blindside, but the sad thing is is that he’s probably the best one on the roster at doing it.

i was at practice today

and it looked like it hurt pretty bad. ben was kind of on the ground squirming around for awhile, and then when he finally did walk, after having it iced and all, he was REALLY gimpy. so, needless to say, i was pretty worried about it, but. at the same time, i was thinking that if they were letting him hobble around on it, it couldn’t be too bad, after all he is their 102 million dollar man. so i think he’ll be alright. but i wouldn’t expect him at all on saturday. which might not be the worst thing in the world.

btw, i got some great pics at camp today, and will post soon…

The one thing I will say against Ben

is he tends to over-dramatize injuries. However, if it’s the Achilles then that would warrant that kind of reaction.

see I never really bought into the whole drama queen thing. The O-line is below average and he gets sacked/hit/thrown around all the time. That wears down on anyone.

Besides Ben broke his face on a motorcycle!!!!!!

No

His face broke the car. The face broke cause it didn’t think it would be fair…

Really hope it's not serious

Thanks for giving us the view from camp.

I’m actually concerned that they didn’t take him somewhere to get a better look at the injury. That can be interpreted as possibly, they already knew what it was. And to know what it was, they would need some indication from Ben, like hearing a pop.

It’s the worst case scenario, obviously..

great
now i'm freaking out. but seriously, if ben heard a pop, you're telling me that they would let him walk around afterwards? wouldn't they just get a cart and get him out of there? please talk me down from the ledge here.

my point exactly. There’s a guy in my school who’s just like that. Big time athlete, big time drama. He was running suicides w/ the basketball team and rolled his ankle I guess, so he went down screaming and everyone else just kept running, rolling their eyes as they went.

Not that I’m saying any of us are rolling our eyes in Ben’s case. An Achilles related injury and a sprained ankle are to different things.

Its fine folks

We know how it is with the Ben. They are just taking precautions with him. Its so early. 3 weeks until we start this league up for real. Chillax…

And dont blame Maxamillion they probably got tangled up or something.

So ridiculously overblown

To read this story on cnnsi.com as I initially did today, you’d have thought that a medevac helicopter flew in to take Ben away. Low andbehold, I get home & it is no big deal per everyone else. Does anyone over there actually fact check?!? Do they automatically try to manufacture a panic to increase their visibility? If you think it is minor – report the story and say that.

At any rate, per more reliable sources than CNN like the PG & NFL network, this does not appear to be an issue.

We should have re-signed Byron Leftwich

Red Wings-1 Max Talbot-2

Because?

Cause were just so lacking at QB with Chuck Batch and Dixon?

Followed by an Appendectomy

Good Point. Ben is still a bitch when it comes to injuries though. Last year when he went down against Cleveland I remember taking polls on when his Thumbs Up was going to come. His quote to Rooney was classic yesterday, “It felt like it was run over by a truck”. After hearing that all indications are that he is OK.
Quick side note on the Ben’s injury at the Cleveland game last year. I don’t know if this is true or not and it very well may be Pittsburgh Urban Legend. I was told that Tomlin was overheard in an elevator after the game saying, “It’s time to go check on our litle girl”. Made me laugh.

by TheCommish on Aug 21, 2009 10:09 AM EDT up reply actions

"Its time to go check on our little girl." Hahahahahahaha

That’s funny regardless of if Tomlin said it or not…
Only because Ben is easily the toughest QB in the NFL.
Not too many players (not just QB’s) could’ve taken the punishment Ben took last year and still be ready to play week after week.

Ben should play pro am golf the next 3 weeks

We need to get Dixon and Batch ready. Ben will get injured again at some point in regular season, I’d rather be ready for that certainty. Other than for rookies and guys trying to make the team, the whole idea of pre-season live drills is questionable.
