No big surprises. Back-up linemen showing some ability and cohesiveness. Sweed remains consistently inconsistent. Just like the Tiffinator was until he became comfortable with the speed the game is played.
Logan showing he might be able to play in the NFL, but don’t think there’s any room for him on the 53. Fox and Woods show why they made the team last year and will be there this year. Timmons still has that maddening habit of beating a lineman on a blitz and being stood up by a running back. Homestead Charlie and Dixon will be just fine behind Ben.
We can’t wait to see Redman and some of the other backups. Maybe Reilly will get a chance.

Our O-line is still a concern, but what can you do about that. Batch is getting up there in years and Dixon is prone to bad decisions despite his physical skills. Besides those factors, I didn’t see anything that can’t be repaired by start of the regular season: clearly we need to avoid penalties.

I dont wanna see us winning 4 in pre and getting too cocky (and then sloppy) in the regular.
Zorn played to win, Tomlin to prepare for the season....
We took a look at a lot of guys like Vincent, Richardson, Schantz, and so on. You have to see how some guys play in a game.
Some who look barely okay in practice can show you something. Like Logan did.
The others show they’re not gonna be on the final 53.
Wish we had seen more of Tank, Redman, and Ziggy. Hope Dixon and Tank are okay.

Dissapointing night all in all
Logan was a bright spot. That’s about it.
Bruce Arians really pissed me off tonight, really had no commitment to the running game. Very little of Redman, Tank was out with injury.
Sweed had an ugly drop but wasn’t awful.
Sepulveda was a stud as usual.
FWP Goal line was great. Sweed was fantastic blocking on that play.
Joe Burnett just had an awful game, an ultimately cost us the game.

I don’t think you can draw conclusions about BA’s commitment to the run game (or lack thereof) from a pre-season game – he probably wanted a good look at what DD can and can’t do with his arm…

But shouldn’t we be seeing more of what Mendenhall can do, or a what a now healthy FWP can still do? Granted, they probably took it slow with him coming off the back spasms. Still I don’t like what he called with the starters in there.

My Complements To:
- Logan was awesome, if he does similar again next 2 games, will be already a fanbase favorite and a LOCK
*If he keeps it like that, Sepulveda will go to the Pro Bowl!!
*Keyaron Fox is a mean motherfucker, could start in other teams easily!!
*Roy Lewis is having a great preseason, another great game, should be considered at least for the Mundy spot!
*Ratliff should be in the 53 in my opinion! Undeniably great in both preseason games AND training camp!

He was signed over the summer and I’m pretty sure he’ll be sticking around. He’s shown good game.
And again, didnt watch, in Peru, but man looked sloppy. I know weather sucked.
S. Logan as KR-PR saves a roster spot; time for the Turk to come
Guys, some quick thoughts:
- Stefan Logan could very well have made this team as the KR/PR for this team. Smoking Joe may very well have gotten a place on the pracitce squad tonight. The kid has put 2 out of 3 punts on the ground. Tomlin can’t trust him at this point. S. Logan saves you a roster spot if he can be your KR/PR and cover kicks.
- Arians never tried to run the ball tonight. The OL looked pretty bad. However, you got to give props to D. Legursky, who started at LG in the place of Chris K. He did a pretty good job on Haynesworth because I didn’t even know he was on the field in the first quarter. He’ll make this team and is definitely more stout at the line of scrimmage than D. Stapleton.
- Ziggy had a good game, showed a lot of explosion and speed; R. Harris did a couple of good things but he wasn’t as noticeable as he was this past week. Still saw him pushing the pocket a few times. I’d keep him over Nick Eason.
- Let’s hope Dixon isn’t seriously hurt. At least we found out that Mike Reilly can take a hit. Now whether he can play QB is another issue.
- If Sweed catches 2 out of every 3 passes, but Mike Wallace catches everything that is thrown to him and is the fastest person on the field, how soon before Wallace is pressing for that no. 3 role?
- Keyaron Fox and Donovan Woods are ready for the regular season. Lawrence Timmons needs to get ready. I saw him run around a couple of blocks tonight. Lebeau won’t stand for that.
- The top 6 CBs on this team are Ike, Gay, Townsend, Ratliff, Lewis and Madison (purely as the no. 1 gunner on special teams). If S. Logan does make this team, then you are probably keeping only 3 safeties, and has R. Lewis or Mundy done enough to beat out Tyrone Carter?
- This is the type of game that has to have Tomlin fuming. Too many penalties, the other team controlled the line of scrimmage, the team didn’t even try to run the ball, Reed missed 2 field goals and coverage teams had a couple of great individual plans but weren’t consistent.
- This game made it easy for the Turk to start doing his thing. Some players did a good job of cutting themselves (Bruce Davis) and one went a long way to earning a roster spot (Stefan Logan).

Roy Lewis is better then Mundy
Im not sure he will kick Carter out, actually i dont think CArter will be cut because he is our top back safety right now, Mundy is a non factor at this point , in other hand CB Roy Lewis is having a very very good pre season so far, yesterday he was flawless! I dont know whats gonna happen, but taking those 2 preseason games, I would like to have Roy Lewis in my 53!

I watched the game sporadically, but was struck by how bad we were defensively on 3rd and 4th down, especially in the second half. Did anyone else notice?

You can’t play all those no-name guys without a sloppy result. But lots of good indications came out of the game too.
Stephan Logan looks like a real home-run threat as a return man. A healthy Mendenhall looks like he might start living up to his first-round billing. With Timmons, Woodley and Ziggy Hood, this is going to develop into the quickest Steeler defense ever. Look for more sacks this season. And the punting will be 100% better with Sepulveda back! Lots of good, healthy competition on the offensive line too.
Disappointing that Isaac Redman didn’t get more playing time, but David Johnson might be a real find if he keeps blocking like he did tonight. Big Ben is the key of course. If he stays healthy, nobody can stop the Steelers this season.
Get a grip Joe Theisman!!!
Why did they get Joe Theisman to announce the game? NFL Network is nationally televised and they have Theisman, who is a total idiot announcing. He was so anti Steelers it wasn’t funny. I was so sick of hearing about that “O” guy that is a rookie……
We would make a nice run or have a great completion and Theisman would talk about the tackle the Redskin guy made!! If you’re going to be a commentator you really should be unbiased. He was getting on my nerves so bad that I muted the TV and watched in silence for about the entire second half. Oh…. and did you see that UTube video that the guy can jump into a truck with the tail gate up? I’m so glad we don’t have to hear his voice again. At least we don’t have to listen to him while playing the Redskins.

That was the Redskins local broadcasting team. TNFLN just gloms onto the local broadcast. Usually it is half one team and half the other, tonight was just the local Redskins broadcast. So, yeah, the comments were more like 99% redskins oriented.

No duh! I realize it was a local Redskin Broadcast, however…it was on a NATIONAL TV channel! So, if it was broadcast nationally, wasn’t it fair to assume that those who are Steeler fans that do not live near Pittsburgh would be watching it on a NATIONAL channel? How can they be onesided while announcing to the entire country? I just didn’t think it was appropriate, and thank God….I have a mute button. Theisman is a creep anyway.

Cause he needs to be. Cause he’s a Steeler from what I saw last night.
If I’m not mistaken, Tomlin holds 5 roster spots strictly for special teamers.
I think after last night, Logan has one of those spots for sure.
We haven’t had a KR/PR that was a threat to score since Randle El left.
