This made my day.
If ever a man deserved to receive the highest honor the NFL can offer, it’s Dick LeBeau.
My heros have always been Steelers...
Hoe come yours got on the front page
and I put mine up 30 minutes before yours? Racism!! I’m just kidding, your link is better.

Finally!
I guess it took a little national spotlight from Rod Woodson’s speach to make them realize how foolish it is not to have him in the Hall. Let’s hope they do the right thing and vote him in now.
Please explain
How this method of getting in differs from the traditional/standard method of entry to the HOF.
Thanks in advance.
To be eligible for the nominating process, a player must have been retired at least five years, and a coach must be retired (as of 2007, retired for five years). Any other contributor such as a team owner or executive can be voted at any time.6
Busts are displayed chronologically in the hall.
Fans may nominate any player, coach or contributor by simply writing to the Pro Football Hall of Fame via letter or email. The Selection Committee is then polled three times by mail to eventually narrow the list to 25 semifinalists: once in March, one in September, and one in October. In November, the committee then selects 15 finalists by mail balloting.
Nine members of the Selection Committee also serve as a subcommittee known as the Seniors Committee to screen candidates who finished their careers 25 or more years prior.6 The Seniors Committee then adds two finalists from prior to the modern era, making a final ballot of 17.
The Selection Committee then meets the day before each Super Bowl game to elect a new class. To be elected, a finalist must receive at least 80 percent support from the Board, with at least four, but no more than seven, candidates being elected annually. If less than four candidates get 80 percent of the vote, then the top four vote-getters will get in that year. If more than seven get 80 percent, then only the top seven vote-getters will be inducted.

Fantastic
Coach LeBeau finally get his due, man was a fantastic player and an equally great coordinator. Very few are as deserving.

Especially in both categories
I mean he honestly could be HOF on either side of the white lines. And yet he will get brought in using a manner reserved for neither of those methods. Quite ironic really. But I think he’s been long overdue and it will be cool to have another Steeler in there.
Great news for a great coach
… and player.
I sure hope he gets this honor. I love LeBeau. I have often wondered if the Steelers win (or even get to) SB XL without Dick as DC. I think his presence and continuity as DC in the switch from Cowher to Tomlin kept this team together, serving as a familiar face for the players during the transition, and I like to think (although it’s probably just in my head) that Tomlin and LeBeau mesh better than Cowher and LeBeau did. I feel like the defense last year showed all of the hallmarks of a LeBeau defense, but had wrinkles of what Tomlin brings to the table. I love the contrast of the young HC with all of his fresh ideas, drive and desire and motivational force combined with the veteran presence of a man who was a great player and probably an even better Coach (well, at least as a DC) who has seen it all, has been through the ups and downs countless times, and just keeps finding ways to blow people away. Plus it seems that Dick’s players really do love the man.
Here’s to Dick LeBeau, may he finally take his rightful spot next to the best the game has had to offer, he more than deserves it.
I think that Cowher and Lebeau probably got along just as well as Tomlin and Lebeau, but Tomlin was just coming off of being a DC and only a year removed from being a secondary coach. I believe Blitz pointed out last year that the biggest improvement from Cowher to Tomlin has been in pass defense. So, as you say, the new HC brought in some improvements in pass coverage (not mention Woodley and Harrison exploding on the scene this year).
Anyway, I wholeheartedly agree that this is great news for Coach Dad.

You're probably right
After all, Lebeau came back for a second stint under Cowher. I’m sure they got along well, I guess I feel the vibe is a little better with Tomlin on scene. Maybe I’m just feeling this way because Tomlin delivered a Super Bowl win in just his second season with the team. I think that Blitz is right, the biggest improvement was in pass defense, and that does seem to stem from Tomlin.
Either way, I’m pulling for Lebeau to get in.
Yeah
I think most likely that Cowher just let Lebeau do what he wanted, while Tomlin helped him some with pass defense. But, there is a sign of Lebeau’s humility while being great. As much of a defensive genius as he was, he still was very open (I’m assuming) to Tomlin’s suggestions. It couldn’t have possibly been a better transition from Cowher to Tomlin, really.
