Phillip Rivers is an overrated D-Bag
I was listening to the radio this morning and they were talking about local product, Phillip Rivers and his new contract. The two DJs agreed that if Pee Rivers was playing for the Steelers, he'd have at least 2 Super Bowl rings.
I seem to recall that year in and year out, the Chargers are stacked with talent and never do much in the playoffs. They are everyones favorite each year to win it all and all they do is under achieve. So I went back and looked at the Pro Bowl rosters for the past 4 years and here are the number of Pro Bowlers on the Charger's roster vs Steelers' roster (in parenthesis).
2005 - 6 Pro Bowlers (4)
2006 - 6 Pro Bowlers (4)
2007 - 11 Pro Bowlers!!! (4)
2008 - 9 Pro Bowlers (6)
The past 2 years, the Chargers have been stacked with talent and they have not even sniffed the Super Bowl. You could argue that if Shawn Merriman was not hurt, they would have had 10 Pro Bowlers last year. Even without Merriman, the Chargers have sent twice as many pro bowlers to Hawaii as the Steelers in the past two years. So I think the question really needs to be turned around and asked, how many more Super Bowls Big Ben would have won if he were playing for the Chargers.
As John Madden said, it's not just how much you do, but when you do it. And Pee Rivers may have padded his numbers playing against the AFC West, but by no means is he clutch.

I think
we only had 3 Pro Bowlers last year. Farrior, Harrison, and Polamalu.
"That Troy Polamaga guy looks like Predator"-A keen observation during Superbowl 43. Thanks to Walterfootball.

Did Casey Hampton go?
Who's laughing now, O Line??? Ben Roethlisberger (from the Podium) to his O-Line and the world in Superbowl XLIII
I did a post on Rivers recently
I didn’t think anyone here would be interested, but apparently someone may be. ;)
Here’s the link, if you want to check it out.

Very good write up Wolfpack Steeler
Sorry I went off on your boy. He does annoy me though. You watching the games at Sammies?
No prob
I don’t mind a Steelers fan getting annoyed at him.
Glad you liked the post.
Where is Sammies? I probably wouldn’t have time to get out this weekend, due to a wedding the family.

Maybe
SB MVP
and NFL Defensive player of the year each count a 1 pro bowler.
Big Ben also.
That makes 6.
i wanna see Woodley take him on the "rollercoaster" again!!!
The chargers biggest problem is that they replaced marty with norv. never have these guys brought home the bacon when it counts. it’s really that simple. plus, u have to have a team-first atttude, which I don’t think they have. my two cents.
HC
I agree, I don’t think Norv is ever going to win big. If you get rid of Marty, don’t replace him with a less successful retread, go out and do your due diligence, like the Rooney’s do, and pick a young winner.

the rollercoaster
was to me the most memorable sack of the whole season. It pushed the boundary of legal sack v. roughing the passer to the outermost limit. I can watch it over and over and over. Loop d’ loop!
The Steelers win because of the culture of the team and the talent on the field and how that talent buys into the system.
Rivers could have done that, and if he could play like Ben with a crap line (I doubt this) he could have won also. I just don’t think he fits this team as well as Ben does. I can’t imagine a QB who would. (other than Elway or Montana, those guys would have fit any team)
I’ve heard from SD fans who think it’s clear that Rivers is better than Ben. The only measureable basis they raise for the claim is Rivers having a higher passer rating (bold, hearty laughter from me). “Rubbish!”, I think to myself. His rating is slightly higher, yes, but Rivers also got to spend his first two years on the bench preparing and learning from Brees. There is absolutely no excuse for Rivers to have had a better statistical start to his career once he began playing. I think it’s safe to say he would have done worse from a statistical standpoint if he’d been thrown into the fire from his rookie year as Ben was.
I think your right...
And that means you are right.
