a fair amount of discussion on the play of Lawrence Timmons over the first couple of games, as we try to find an answer to the legit question of whether he can successfully be a 1st & 2nd down player, and stuff the run in the tradition of Steeler inside backers.
I had a few late thoughts on this matter...though, as fans not coaches, doesn't matter what we think.
Timmons not beating out Foote last year perhaps suggests a combo of Foote being better than we asshats collectively thought, and Timmons perhaps not being as good.
Couple things I wonder, one leading to the next...
*Could it be that Timmons is more in the mold of Chad Brown, who started inside with the Steelers in '93 & '94, bit undersized, and never really excelled until '96, after the departure of Kevin Greene....which ironically, paved the way out of town for Chad, and onto better sushi for Mrs. Chad...
*Timmons more naturally plays in space....though I would have plenty of anxiety around Timmons setting the edge.
*Moot point though, since no OLB spot is open at the time being.
Other thoughts on Timmons play..
