Why do we never get any respect?
Every thing I read, everything I hear, and everyone I talk to all I hear is how good New England is. Why?
Why is everybody so high on the Pats? For the last 4 solid years EVERY SINGLE year the superbowl predictions are New England/Colts vs New York/Chicago. Has one person heard the Steelers predicted to win it all this year? I'm not going to say it because I believe in superstitions and not to bet on your team. But deep down I think all of us Steelers fans are laughing at all these reports. What do you think some of those players think when they see NE being the "best" team every year? I know some players pay attention to these reports like Ben. All it is is fuel for the fire. For instance I just listened to the Bill Simmons podcast when he talked to a guy from Football Outsiders. And he predicted that the superbowl would be either NE vs. New York or Indy vs Chicago. Really? Chicago? He said how the Chargers looked the best in their numbers and they were favored to win the most games. For a team that went 8 - 8 and barley made the playoffs thats a big risk. For a team that won their only playoff game because they have the Kevin Garnett of punting, thats a bold statement. And for a team that has a slipping star running back and a 5"8 rb that can be easily caught on to, thats just flat out stupid. I don't think anyone has commented on how much we've improved. Has anyone noticed that our two new starters are just as good if not better then last years? Or how about how we might have the best punter that we've ever had? On paper all of the holes we had last year have been filled. Mendenhall and Sweed look to just add to this. I mean our biggest problems are whether we should put Isaac Redman and Stefan Logan on the team. It's just ridiculous. I just got the latest SI and ESPN the Magazine and respectivelly the Pats and Colts are on the cover. WHY???? At least ESPN has a little more balls then everyone else. They put the Texans on the cover last year. But this year is a whole different story. The only things football related that have been published are about Mike Vick, Brett Favre, and Tom Brady. I think i've seen the clips of Brady's shoulder and Mike Vick in that freakin red practice jersey that there forever burned in my head. These stories are just so old. I think i've decided that I like hockey more then I do football. Do you ever hear drama about the NHL? Does anyone hold out in the NHL for weeks on end? No. Evgeni Malkin missed a huge chunk of time because of his contract. His contract with Russia, that he was trying to get out of and get straight to the Pens. And seeing these stories does make me love the Steelers more. We don't have contract holdouts or any of this drama bs. The Steelers are the one true team that just keep it together. Our front office isnt all effed up and our owner isn't corrupt and stealing money...(Pirates.) So you know the Pats can have their predictions. Hell I hope that every single person in america predicts the Pats to win. The Steelers will never be involved in championship predictions. We are a straight edge team. We dont sign criminals, big trades never come our way, and the people who play in Pittsburgh stay in Pittsburgh. We don't make headlines like every other team. Maybe thats why nobody wants to make us the champs.

Lmao
Not only is that funny cause the Pats are dead if Brady goes down again, but I have a friend with the same name.

If it makes you feel better
Dan Fouts said the Chargers vs. Falcons game last night was a Super Bowl preview.
Oh, and if you didn’t know, Bill Simmons is a huge homer for all things Boston, so that isn’t even surprising.
My "game-manager" QB just won the Super Bowl, while your stat-whore of a quarterback sat on his couch and watched!

nineties
I remember all through the nineties is was always Raiders and/or Dolphins as preseason picks.
The lack of respect doesn’t bother me, we fly under the radar all year and take care of business in the playoffs. In ‘05 the Colts got all the pub. and last year it was the Titans. That’s fine.

Oh I know that Simmons is a huge boston fan I just find him hilarious/extremley entertaining
and everyone tries to predict these superbowls who thought the cardinals would get there? or better yet who saw a red wings pens finals again?

nothing new
truth is,,, we didn’t get the national respect we should have in the 70s untill we were on the verge of 13,,,,,,,,,,,,remember the emperor nolls quote before the 74 afc champ. in oakland,,,,,,
the one that all the old steelers say was the only time they saw noll show rah rah " they think they played the damn super bowl last week, but the best team in the league is in this locker room"
that was pretty much the way it was, they loved the sorry asss dolphins and that foul hungarian shula,,,,,, the bad boy raiders,,,,,,,and the tom landry computer led america’s jagoff cowboys,,,,,,,we were viewed too much as just good usurpers to the throne cause the kings beat each other up on the way to us ,,, so we had to repeat the repeat to make them believe………….

I think that there is an economic component
The visibility of teams like the Patriots, Chargers, Cowboys and Colts is the NFL and the media outlets trying to speak to the non-football world. The Tom Bradys and Mannings are media darlings which represent the NFL.
We have a blue collar, traditionalist approach to football. We are not in the entertainment business we are in the football business, We may not be sexy, sensational, but Coach T does not walk past six Emmy or viewership awards on his way to the office; he walks past six superbowl trophies.

Traditionalist approach to football is our style.
We don’t do drama queens. Porter out Plax out. We don’t do cheer leaders. Flashiness is not our style
We do DEFENSE. Strong coaching, and depth of roster. The offense accumulates TOP not rankings. We draft for developement of dominance notto fill holes.
This is the steelers style.

OMG!!!
I am dying here. I can’t believe how many people actually are agreeing with the Steelers never get any respect crap.
Can someone else please stand up and explain how the Steelers are one of the most respected franchises in all of football, that there are actually plenty of people who are predicting the Steelers will win the super bowl, and even if nobody actually predicted that they will win the super bowl it is still a far cry from “getting no respect”.
Hello, is anybody out there sane?

Not caring to me implies that there is validity to the comment. I neither care, nor do I agree the statement is valid. Just because not everyone is picking the Steelers does not mean they get no respect. It’s so stupid.

No there is a definite lack of respect
in the media. Sure they give us successful predictions, but hardly ever Superbowl winner picks. It is so rare to see an “objective” NFL fan pick the boys in Black and Gold to go the distance, even after winning a Superbowl, and to be honest I prefer it that way. I love seeing our guys play with a chip off our shoulder, that’s how this team has almost always been and look how many times we came out on top.

And plus
Majority of people don’t like us. We’re unconventional in some aspects of the game, and we’re not as glamorous teams like the Pats or Colts, headed by robo-qbs, pretty boys, like P. Manning, and Tom Brady. No, our QB has metal plates in his head and will take any hit, or hold onto the ball as long as possible if it means a big play. The majority of football fans prefer the flashy, Randy Moss-type players who make the highlight reel week after week over the smashmouth, gritty, blue collar type of football. As Mike Tomlin says “People become too preoccupied with style points.”

The majority of football fans prefer the flashy blah blah blah
That would of course explain why the Steelers have arguably the largest fan base among all the NFL teams. You people are talking out of your asses.

The Steelers are the most respected franchise in the NFL. Because they are not the singular pick to repeat, doesn’t change that. Something else to remember… when predictions are being made, alot of people try to to go little off the beaten path, so if they happen to guess right, they look smart or something.
Everyone knows the Steelers, and the Patriots are the clear favorites to be the AFC representitive. Every serious analysis I’ve seen has those two as the ones to beat. Stop complaining about a lack of respect, it’s actually embarrasing. We get all the respect, and by the way, the Patriots are pretty good haven’t you heard. They have won 29 regular season games in the past 2 years. They deserve alot of attention.
13 years and no playoff wins for the Dallas Cowboys... SWEET!

Yeah Im done with this one
But since I’m bored I’ll poast this:
We are not a flashy team. We dont have huge playmakers on offense, we have a very tough defense that produces few shootout matches, and therefore are somewhat less interesting to watch.
We also do not employ jackasses.
Granted, people suck the patriots cock like it spews out diamonds when it finishes, but I dont care. At the end of the year who hoists the trophy is all that matters.

I'm happy that no one is picking us
What was the last time an “expert” picked the Super Bowl correctly in the preseason? The team du jour always gets the glowing coverage (that would be the Pats), and many have hitched their predictions to the idea that Brady will immediately be back in his 2007 form. The Pats were the golden team last year, too. and in 2006 it was the Dolphins(lol). Anyway, my point is that since they have already been picked, the aforementioned matchups will not happen.
Glory is fleeting, but obscurity is forever.
