Surgery For Stapleton
The Pittsburgh Tribune Website is reporting that Steelers Offensive Lineman Darnell Stapleton will undergo surgery on his troubling right knee. No time table is given for his return. With reports that Urbik seems a little lost (he is a rookie) I am looking for Trai Essex to earn his keep.
I hope Stapleton is not done for the season. He is a valuable swing man and needs to stay sharp as he may be a challenger for Center in 2010. Link is below;

Backup
He won’t be pushing for any playing time in 2010 either.. I see Hartwig either shaping up or losing his spot on the roster to Shipley or Legursky. Essex has already surpassed Stapleton at guard. He will be a backup on all positions if anything.

O-Line!
Well, I think I was one of the more vocal people here about the lack of quality and depth on our o-line. With the number of free agents we will have after this year, and the lack of experience we have in reserve, I was hoping the Steelers would go O-Line early and often.
Well, here we are. If Stapleton is out any period of time, then what? I am floored we drafted (and have) so many DBs and pretty much neglected the OL.
We better pray Stapleton is ready for the season opener, and nobody gets hurt during the season. If not, the sieve that was our OL last year will look great compared to this year’s version.

Urbik
Stapleton isn’t the key to our O-line and if you ask me, he can be replaced with ease. I am more disappointed to hear that Ramon Foster is beating our Kraig Urbik. I Honestly hope that it’s just rookie jitters because I have high hopes for this kid. Wexell says Legursky will make the squad and force Shipley to the practice squad. My biggest concern is our O-line again. We need more depth and quality!

I don't think its a big deal
The most likely scenario is that Essex will take over at RG, while Stapleton will be back in the mix as an extremely valuable backup early in the season. The only way his injury will cause problems is if Essex is injured before then.
Glory is fleeting, but obscurity is forever.

I’m a little surprised no one has mentioned this yet, but Woodley sat out with a swollen knee and Lolley suggests that he may be having tests done on it. Link ($)
Even if he’s okay, Woodley’s been pretty quiet this camp. I wouldn’t be surprised if he took a small step back this year, despite our lofty expectations. Harrison sounds pretty pumped up, though.

timmons
wonder if timmons will steal some of the spotlight.
Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!

I think he will. He’s been tremendous by most accounts.

I’d rather have three LBs have 12 sacks each than 2 have 18.

and a few more pics and deflects would be nice
Timmons is gonna really help with the pass defense. If WRs have to keep an eye open for Clark, imagine what they are going to be looking out for after they see TImmons roaming around looking for blood. I predict there will be a “Timmons Rule” by the end of the year allowing receivers to opt to wear bubble wrap.

Seems to me...
That there is a lot of knee and hammy injuries going around based on this qoute by Tomlin:
"Sean McHugh had a little swelling in his left knee. We are getting him examined. Don’t anticipate it being long, but we’ll see. LaMarr Woodley had the same with his right knee. We held those guys out this afternoon. Some of the other guys, like Sonny Harris, is getting a little closer to getting back. Mewelde Moore, Martin Nance it’s going to be a few days with those hamstrings. Troy (Polamalu) of course is going to be ready to go. Deshea (Townsend) is getting the same thing looked at in terms of his hamstring. Darnell Stapleton is going to have his knee scoped Friday morning, so we’ll have more information after that’s completed."
Nothing too out of the ordinary, leg injuries happen in camps across the league. Cramps and whatnot lead to more serious stuff. I think all these guys should be fine. I hope.

Steelers Work Out Centers
No long term prognosis as of yet on Stapleton. But, the Steelers hedged their bets today by working out ex Falcon Alex Stepavovich and rookie Alex Derenthal of Temple.
Didn’t have high hopes for short armed AQ. Was just hoping he might make a PS spot. His value has increased ten fold if 72 can’t go this year. Legursky will also need to step up although manyat BTSC have touted him during the off season.
