Troy Polamalu Injury and the teams we play while he's out.
Someone posted earlier a link to the postgazette and a comparison of other players who had the same injury. most were sidelined 2-3 weeks. It seems appropriate that Troy could be in the same boat. From what I understand, Tomlin doesn't know for sure yet and it may be more serious.
However, i think its important to note the teams we are playing in the next six weeks. even if troy is gone for that long, we're against opponents that dont particularly scare us-and thats what an easy schedule can do for you.
Frankly speaking, if we have an elite defense, even without troy we should be able to win a substantial number of games and i believe that. Especially against these six teams. The only team that concerns me are the chargers and vikings-and that should say something about the rest, bengals, browns, lions, etc.
In fact, I dont even think the vikings are that much a threat, but you never know with AP and even Farve-early in the season, in the backfield.
The chargers are the only team that concern me and rightfully so: they have very good corners and in the preseason seemed to have played at their probowl level unlike last year. this could potentially be a high scoring game especially without TP.
I'm thinking that if we throw as often as we do their corners may make plays on us. even though titans have good secondary i dont think its anywhere near what the chargers have. also their pass rush is just as good or better than the titans.
This could very well be our litmus test. Do well here, and we're basically the best AFC team hands down.

Thanks for making me look up the next 6 teams.
Anyways my thoughts are that even though we could lose games against the Bears, Chargers, and Vikings and shouldn’t overlook facing a possibly decent passing attack in Cinci without out best pass defender, dropping a game or two here doesn’t mean much. We’ll make the playoffs, and as long as Troy is really only out for 3-6 weeks, it’s no big deal.
charity standing orders
glad I made you look it up
that was my goal all along. Nah, I was just too lazy to post all 6 teams.
yea, its no big deal..but at the same time it could be an opportunity for our team to shine without him and then really kick it off in the stretch run. even at the midway point we arent in the stretch(last 5 games etc.) but its close enough. I think we’ll be fine. But i figured I’d post this because I had panicked after the initial reports on TP.
I agree I do not want him to come back too soon and have trouble the rest of the year. But, I hope he can get back in time for the Vikings. They have the best rb in football. His run stopping skills are un real as we saw last night.
Not worried about bengals, browns, & lions. Bears are unknown, Chargers are a problem and so are vikings.

Nah, its not really the running back the steelers have issues with. its the Oline.
the titans OLine is UNREAL. they’r so good they really had a handle on us in the beginning. thats what causes steelers problems. our running backs would be getting similar yardage with that oline. but those running backs wouldnt do squat with our oline.
The question isnt how good AP is, the question is how good their OLine is. I feel if they have ok skilled Olinemen then our linebackers get the RBs easy. AP’s Godly. But so is our Defense.
a Godly RB and a Godly OL > Godly Defense.
Vikings are good
We will need all hands on deck for this game. The vikings have a great left side of the line and the right side is good. The drafted one of the best tackles in the draft and he looked good in preseason. But keep in mind, having a healthy Troy in December is more important that having him on the field in October.

Maybe we can sign Shaq. He picked Big Ben off and ran it back on his show

LOL
That show was sooooo planned
This is Pittsburgh Steeler Troy Polamalu getting knocked around by the Pacific Ocean in Hawaii yesterday...
Minutes later, Troy caught the ocean going over the middle and smacked it right in the mouth. The ocean fumbled, Troy recovered and ran it into the endzone. The ocean never messed with Troy again.

Steelers should be fine
until Polamalu returns. I hope he doesn’t come back unless he is 100% though. He rushed back in ‘07 from various ailments and he wasn’t himself. He doesn’t need to reinjure himself. San Diego doesn’t concern me one bit. The Steelers man handled them in the playoffs and they dominated the regular season game at least statistically even though it was only by 1 point. Nothing there to suggest the next game would be different. They are overrated.
I agree about the overrated Chargers
Everyone seems to think they are hot stuff, but they have been saying that for years. Over promise, under deliver, That’s their MO. Still, without Troy this is going to be very difficult. Troy gives our D options most teams don’t enjoy. He scares the living crap out of QB’s. There is no other player like him in the NFL. Our defense is going to have it’s problems without him. Who’s to say when he gets back, he’s going to be 100%. Honestly, I doubt it. I think we have to live with the real possibility that what we saw in the first half was the best we are going to get
13 years and no playoff wins for the Dallas Cowboys... SWEET!
Here's a sad thought
One day, Troy is going to not be a Steeler, whether through retirement or free agency.
What will our defense look like then, without the best safety/athlete in the league? It’ll be a sad day.
Here's a potential bad scenario
What if Troy is still out after the bye week? Word is that Clark may not make the trip to Denver (I’ve read conflicting reports on this possibility). We’d be out both starting safeties. I’m not worried about the Broncos, but I’m not super confident in the backups either. I guess we’ll get to see them play a bit more now. This would be a great time for Mundy to start competing for Clark’s job next season.
Huh
Word is that Clark may not make the trip to Denver (I’ve read conflicting reports on this possibility).
What is that about?
Don't let anyone steal your Joy
He was cleared to play
They talked about this last year. He should be fine. I think they took the dudes spleen out so I’m pretty sure the problem area is no longer a problem.
I don't think Denver's offense could score against
the Bengals University of Cincinnati.

Our defense is still a top three defense without Troy. The drives get longer (Toy makes at least one play every drive) without him, but we still hold people in the red zone. I think it is a good thing. Troy can’t really play the way he does for 16 games. I’d like to see him out 8 weeks, come back in week 10 while we fight to clinch the first round bye, get going for the postseason without being banged up.
Don't know about that
First off, this isn’t the first time Troy went down, and we do survive without him. And, I think that the team will play better KNOWING in advance that Troy won’t be in the game. Losing him hurts because so much of the game plan revolves around what he can do.
But, I’m thinking the Titans never score that touchdown if Troy was still in there. I don’ know if he accounts for 7 points a game… but if he does, or even three, we lose a lot of games that last year we won.
I just hope he doesn’t push it and come back too soon. I would rather he be out 5 weeks and come back strong (and rested) than limp around for 12 games because the knee still bothers him. I’m still convinced he was hurt in Super Bowl XL.
Yeah, we need Troy healthy for the playoffs, we can get there without him.

You're right about the way he plays..knee, concusion et al
I would rather he be hurt early on and come back healthy for a late season push then hurt late in the season
They'll be OK.
I agree, we’ve already done this drill before and the world didn’t end. All the more reason, though, why the offense needs to pick it up.
Don't be surprised
if you see some interesting line ups upon occasion with 5 lb’s and 4 dbs with Timmons in a bit of a modified Polomalu role.
Hope so
Just dont ask Timmy to return a pick for a TD cause he’ll fall on his ass 95% of the way there.
But in all seriousness, breaking down the games:
@ Bears looks to be no problem with their anemic offense.
@ Bengals shouldn’t be much more difficult
Vs. Chargers doesn’t scare me. They play well but dont finish well.
@ Lions
Vs Browns
Vs. Vikings
The only two here remotely dangerous are Chargers and Vikings. And Vikings less so than Chargers to me. Both are at home. Chargers have a lame defense. Vikings D is good on the ground, not great on the air but they get sacks. They’re the toughest for us really.
And so theres a good chance Polamalu makes it back for the Vikings. But if not I could see us losing that one. Thats it honestly. One possible potential bad game.
You guys better be more scared of the Chargers
First off with Merriman back. Secondly, their D was much better down the stretch when they switched coordinators.
Rivers has emerged as one of the best qb’s in the league and Tomlinson is on a mission to prove to everyone that he isn’t done.
San Diego will be a force this year and we will get a good taste of how good they are next week when they play the Ravens.
