I really feel split right down the middle over this one. On the one hand, my Steelerfan-dom requires that I pull for the Ravens to lose (every week) because they are our closest division rival and present one hell of a challenge for Pittsburgh whenever they play. I was hoping against hope last week that somehow, someway, Croyle and the Chiefs (???) would find a way to pull off the upset. Alas, it was not meant to be. Really, Ravens fans should feel somewhat respected by this, because it is an open admission that they are a serious rival. I would find plenty to be happy about if they lost in San Diego this Sunday.
But on the other hand, is it possible that Pittsburgh would receive a greater benefit if the Chargers lost? Is it possible that the Chargers, a non-divisional foe, actually present a bigger obstacle to any hope of a title than Baltimore? This is a relatively recent thought for me. If there is a rival AFC team with a personalized invitation back to the playoffs, I believe it is the Chargers (sorry, AFC West). Plenty of people in the know are projecting San Diego to come back with a vengeance this year based on schedule and better health. In this case I'd agree that there is plenty to like about the Chargers' prospects. They will be right smack in the middle of the hunt for a first round bye.
So, who would you prefer to win this weekend when these two of our rivals play?
