10 predictions for steelers, including a very good OLine this season.

I'm not an expert by any means but my predictions these past few years have panned out fairly well.  I predicted the 05 bowl and the 08 after the first game...

ok so i predicted last year after brady went down, but still...check out my top 10 after the jump

Star-divide

1. OLine gels to become an good passing unit giving up only 20 sacks attributed to it this season

2.   As a result ben throws for 4000 yards, 25 TDs and 5 Ints

3. Santonio Holmes has his first 1k receiving season with 1,300 receiving yards.

4. Hines ward has another 1000 receiving season with 1100 yards.

5. Steelers rushing attack bounces back with parker gaining 1,200 yards this season 4 TDs.

6. steelers still have trouble in goal line rushing and short yardage runs.

7. Steelers finish first AFC, beat ravens 1, lose 1 and gain home field advantage(best record AFC)

8. Steelers Defense finishes first in every category except rushing(again) and has highest number of sacks(50+), Polamalu finishes with 6 int.

9. Saints, 49ers, vikings, giants make it to playoffs.

packers and eagles make wild card.

saints play giants in NFC championship and lose.

10. STEELERS PLAY GIANTS IN SUPERBOWL AND WIN.

1. Impossible for them to give up only 20 sacks. That would mean only allowing 1 per game from here on out.

2. Once again, do you honestly think Ben will only throw 3 picks over 15 games? That’s ridiculous. 4,000 yards might happen if we continue to rely on Ben’s arm to win.

3. Reasonable

4. I’d like to think Ward can still knock out the 1,000 mark.

5. Not going to happen. I would put good money that none of our backs break 1,000.

6. Duh

7. 12-4, wherever that puts us

8. This all depends on Polamalu and Timmons injuries. We might finish #1 overall and #1 in passing, but I see the Ravens taking the rush D #1.

9. Too early to tell on all those teams, except maybe the eagles, giants, vikings. They have the talent for sure. Saints – is their D any good? We will find out sunday. 49ers- Can they really rely on Hill in the long run? Packers – can Rodgers make something of the talent they have, and can their defense consistently hold teams under 20?

He said 20 sacks attributed to the OL this season, according to most analysts against the Titans the line gave 1 sack, Ben was responsible for two and Holmes was responsible for 1. So it seems possible.

Regarding the five Ints, I just don’t see how. That’s where he lost me.

I agree with just about everything you said Johnny S

but I’d add:
Mewelde ends up being the leading rusher
13-3 ends up our final record
We DO beat the Giants in the Super Bowl, 24-17
I think the Vikings (again) lead in rush defense, Pittsburgh second—Ravens will throw too much this year, and won’t run the clock as much as they normally do
Ben finishes with 29 TD’s and 13 INT’s
Packers will have a BIG year, injuries held them back last year
49ers don’t make the playoffs, Arizona easily coasts to NFC West crown (again)
Hines barely misses 1,000 yds
O-Line gives up at least 35 sacks

you’re right that number 5 is a stretch…

i think the afc this year is fairly weak and for our pickings. the chargers are crappy, and the pats defense looks bad too. tom brady is great…but his tackles are bad.
i think the rushing d will go to the vikings.
i dont pick the ravens because mainly teams will need to pass on them to score-as a result their defense will play to the pass and allow more runs.
i think the 49ers are pretty good this year wtih respect to their divison. the hawks have injuries galore and shredded a crappy team.

i pick giants only because they’re clearly the best nfc team right now. the eagles are good but their rb’s are not so great(any reason why westbrooks option wasnt renewed?-he’s not as good) and vick is a distraction.

Nostradamus is back

The only managing Ben does is he manages to WIN games

A bit optimistic

1. No way
2. TD’s yes, yards and picks, no.
3. I’ll buy
4. Could happen, but hopefully more games aren’t close and it doesn’t due to fewer throws in 2nd halves.
5. More likely to happen: Browns make the playoffs.
6. Stunning.
7. Ben stays healthy? Ok.
8. Would be great, but it’s possible they don’t but are still better than last year.
9. Not sold yet on Minnesota. I’d put Falcons or Cowboys in before them.

by pghnorthside on Sep 18, 2009 3:36 PM EDT reply actions

1. Only 20 sacks…… LOL! I don’t like that word, attributed! Big Ben tries to extend plays to try an get a receiver open, why can’t the OL extend a block to give Ben more time. Anyway, it is bull, Starks let 2 guys walk right by him on either side, and Ben fought them off and avoided a sack. They should have a stat like, would have been a sack if Jeff George was back there, then the Steelers would shatter the record on a weekly basis! If Big Ben did not fight off tacklers, the OL would have tons more attributed sacks!

2. I could not have stated it better than John_S.

3. If it is reasonable to assume Ben might throw for 4,000 yards, that it is also reasonable to assume Holmes will go over 1,000.

4. I do not think Hines will make it through the season playing all 16 games, unfortuantely. I think someone will give him a cheap shot (Bengals, Ravens) and he will miss some time.

5. Parker will not rush for 1,200 yards. Mendenhall will take over soon to try to revive the running game and to let the Steelers see what they got. This is probably Parker’s last year in Pittsburgh and they won’t ride him much longer….. actually I just came across something about him rotating now with Mendenhall.

6. Again, John_S captured my feelings perfectly.

7. I agree with John_S. Even though I think our OL is a joke, we lucked out with a pretty easy schedule. I can see us going 12-4, especially since our tough games (Titans, Chargers, Vikes, and Packers) are at home.

8. Williams’ wall will once again lift Minnesota to number 1 in rushing D. We had an outstanding year last year, it will be hard to duplicate that. They will be at the top five of everything, but not at the top of everything.

9. Think the Seahawks win the west and SF doesn’t make it, but the rest of them I am fine with.

I can also see the Saints playing in the NFC Championship. If they have home field I could also see the winning it. If everyone on that team stays healthy then they are primed for a long run.

10. Man, I hate to say the Steelers will win, or even make it, but let us just say I bought season tickets to the Miami Dolphins so I could see the Steelers finish the regular season (and hopefully the post season) in person. Keep your fingers crossed for me in the season ticket holder raffle for Super Bowl tickets.

about my picks

yea…i specifically said attributed. so i’m adding another 10 to 15 sacks for a total of 30-35.

i think our running game will improve. i think willie parker will do a better job as the season progresses.

i made a typo…5 should be 15 picks by ben-sorry.

i think the vikings are overrated but will manage to reach playoffs because the packers are even more overrated. their defense needs work still and did well against a weak bears offense only.
giants look good and manning doesnt really need elite receivers with that running back/oline
cowboys-overrated imo, romo looked good against one of the worst secondaries in the nfc.

by surag238 on Sep 18, 2009 3:46 PM EDT reply actions

eh.

1. 35 overall is reasonable if they play like they did in the 4th quarter against Tn.
2.More like 3500 33TD and 16int. if the run improves if not than easily 4000+
3.Sounds about right, he has matured and bulked up to get of the line easier.
4.Very possible, he looked very good against Tn.
5.I would be surprised, very possible he isn’t even the leading rusher.
6.At least in the first half of the season, I see them getting better but not to the point where it is a strength.
7. Agree with JohnnyS. 12-4 where ever that puts us. Agree I think we split with Ravens in regular season and I will add and beat them again in the playoffs.
8.Up near the top but probably not the top in stats, once everyone is back though watch out.
9.Arizona will bounce back too many Steelers on that team not to LOL.
10.If Farve stays healthy and plays well enough just to make teams hones AP tops 2000 and Vikes go to superbowl only to be dissappointed once again by the Steelers. Wonder how it would feel to be 0-5 in the SB.

Predictions? Or wishful thinking?

Wow, this is like reading the cover of the National Enquirer in January. Yeah, some of the most outrageous stuff sometimes comes true… but what good is it if 80% of it is false?

1. OLine gels to become an good passing unit giving up only 20 sacks attributed to it this season

Not a chance. Unless you play fast and loose with the “attributed” part. They average probably three sacks a game. Two a game would be great. One a game (which is what you are suggesting) is out of the question.

2. As a result ben throws for 4000 yards, 25 TDs and 5 Ints

So, Ben is going to average 250 yards a game? Not impossible, but if he is throwing that much, I don’t think your last prediction is coming true…

3. Santonio Holmes has his first 1k receiving season with 1,300 receiving yards.

I was wondering who Ben was throwing all of these passes to… Santonio, huh? I could see this happening. But I doubt it. Somewhere along the way, teams will stop protecting against the run and start doubling Santonio and Hines.

4. Hines ward has another 1000 receiving season with 1100 yards.

Two Steelers Wideouts with over 1000 yards catching, eh? I have two words: Tommy Gun. We learned our lesson. Nuff Said…

5. Steelers rushing attack bounces back with parker gaining 1,200 yards this season 4 TDs.

Wow, two WRs over a 1000 yards AND a 1000 yard rusher. You’re head isn’t too much in the clouds, is it? You have to pick…run attack or pass attack. They aren’t both happening. Not on this planet…

6. steelers still have trouble in goal line rushing and short yardage runs.

That’s not a prediction. That’s an observation.

7. Steelers finish first AFC, beat ravens 1, lose 1 and gain home field advantage(best record AFC)

Wow… we must lose the Ravens in a shootout the way you have our offense clicking…

8. Steelers Defense finishes first in every category except rushing(again) and has highest number of sacks(50+), Polamalu finishes with 6 int.

Not a chance. Hate to tell you all, but the Defense is taking a statistical fall this year. Especially if your dream of a passing attack comes true. They will be on the field more, they will be more tired, and they will give up a lot more points.

And Polamalu getting 6 ints? Only if he is out 3 weeks… not 6. I am worried about him coming back too soon and gimping through the season…

9. Saints, 49ers, vikings, giants make it to playoffs.

Who knows? The NFC is always a crap-shoot.

packers and eagles make wild card.

::: shrugs ::: maybe… (see above…)

saints play giants in NFC championship and lose.

I don’t see the Giants making it that far, personally.

10. STEELERS PLAY GIANTS IN SUPERBOWL AND WIN.

I don’t think the Giants are making it out of the first round. Eli is a fraud. Not sure who I like out of the NFC. Could be Seattle. That would be nice. I’d like another crack at them to be honest… now that Ben won’t choke in the Super Bowl. They’d be toast…

IF the Steelers can get the line serviceable enough that we have a decent ground attack, so Ben doesn’t have to throw 40 times a game… I think we win our division and I like our chances in the Playoffs.

But I don’t see us having a 1000 yard rusher. I will be shocked if we have 2 1000 yard receivers. And I doubt our defense will be number one in ANY category this year.

I still think we win the Super Bowl — after beating New England — at Foxboro — for the AFC championship game.

FWIW.

1. Pitt misses playoffs
2. Tomlin’s lawn painted.
3. Ben goes on a drinking binge and makes obscene calls to Bob Costa.
4. Ward demands a trade to NE and his own super hero character..
5. Troys leg never fully heals and he self medicates while watching captain Caveman and Heckle and Jeckle cartoons.
6. Limas Sweed changes his name to Sweet Pea Lima Bean.
7. Jeff Reed charged with domestic violence after marrying a tampon dispensor and beating it.
8. D coach goes back under his tree and sleeps for another 100 years.
9. Towely retired and replaced by pink thunder sticks.
10. Steeler fans steal Rally Monkey idea to go with Heeeeath chant.

That is completely inappropriate. Lets try to have discussions like mature adults and not offend people and imply that their sexual preference is a bad thing.

not there would be anything wrong with that if that is what you’re into in a politically correct kinda way.

clearly he wasn’t looking to offend anyone, i understand your plight, but the guy said that theres nothing wrong with that if its your thing. So I thing the disclaimer makes it appropiate, there are time people put political references up here that I don’t agree with, but whatever, I understand this is a sports blog and there is no room for religion, race, politics, sexual preference, jokes because you want to cater to all steelers fans. But this in my opinion totes the line but doesn’t cross it.

by tannofsteel84 on Sep 19, 2009 5:25 PM EDT up reply actions

No

I think the disclaimer only works when you are not making an offensive comment (ie. Elton John is a homosexual, not that there is anything wrong with that). When you saying you don’t like something or someone so it should go be gay. That is wrong, even with a disclaimer. It implies that being gay is wrong and therefore is implying that he thinks there is “something wrong with that.”

That you find it offensive is your own problem. Don’t live your life bieng so oversensitive. I see people refer to James Harrison as silverback, on this blog. That is, and should be far more offensive then this deal. It’s ok if you don’t subscribe to everything that’s said here.

I think the O-line could give up 35-40 sacks this year...

and could still be doing a great job. Think about the Titans game? Four sacks, and really they controlled the pass rush in the second half. If we get that from those guys we will have a successful year. Parker doesn’t have the wheels to be a 1000 yard back anymore, not on this time at least. Santonio is finally the guy we anticipated him to be. He will have a huge year. I hope Ben does throw for 4000+, because that has to be the focus of our offense.

I won’t comment on team success, but suffice to say we have as good a chance as anyone to take the next Super Bowl.

Limas Sweed gets 2000 receiving yards

Polamalu gets 10 one-handed picks and 24 where he grasps one as its an inch off the ground.

James Harrson & LaMarr Woodley get 50 sacks each and get into a fist fight in which the winner is the offensive line of whoever we play in the SB

BB breaks the world record of yards thrown by surpassing 6000 because as I said before Sweed gets 2000, surag said Tone and Hines both eclipse 1000, throw a couple hundred to Heath and Wally and we’re good

FWP and Mendy combine to an avg of -10 yards throughout the season, luckily Ben’s robotic arm makes up for that.

We go to the SB against the 49ers, we win, but are amazingly impressed by Patrick Willis so we trade away our next two 1st round picks and FWP and Mendy and Willie Colon. Actually we just give them Colon for free.

Bruce Arians is going to call the best season of his life. He must, how else would BB get those 6000 yards?

Drew Brees goes insane trying to keep up with the yards thrown by BB, could not handle the pressure, and throws for 5,998 yards.

Those are my predictions as of 3:14 on Saturday, September 19, 2009. Feel free to agree or disagree with any of the above statements.

This is Pittsburgh Steeler Troy Polamalu getting knocked around by the Pacific Ocean in Hawaii yesterday...
Minutes later, Troy caught the ocean going over the middle and smacked it right in the mouth. The ocean fumbled, Troy recovered and ran it into the endzone. The ocean never messed with Troy again.

7 predictions

1. Ben Roethlisberger wins the Super Bowl twice. The rest of the team loses in the AFC Championship game.

2. James Harrison strips the trophy and takes it to the house. . . his house.

3. Speaking of the QB, he is mentioned no less than 12 times in any post with 15 comments.

4. His last name is spelled out less than once each post. (on average)

5. Mendenhall actually does wear a dress to the game, and runs for 100 yards.

6. Santonio Holmes ends the season with 128 catches for 2096 yards and 16 TD’s, just to show everyone his consistency.

7. Redman gets called up and is elected into the Hall of Fame after three games and 112 TD’s.
