Pittsburgh Steelers (1-0) @ Chicago Bears (0-1): Week 2 Open Thread (2nd Half)

The Bears and the Steelers are tied at 7-7 at half. This one's going just about exactly as I expected. The Steelers found plenty of early success against the Bears defense. Similarly, the Bears got Jay Cutler comfortable with a bunch of quick-hitting passes. The rain began to come down in the 2nd quarter and Big Ben and the offense seemed to get off track a bit. Can they get it together and put together a couple of scoring drives in the 2nd half? They better because I think Chicago's going to keep finding some holes in the Pittsburgh defense.

Go Steelers!

Glad someone else can see the fact we are our own worst enemy most of the time by causing penalties to keep them going………

by ammodog41 on Sep 20, 2009 7:37 PM EDT up reply actions

Number of penalties doesnt equal qualities of penalties. They missed countless holds (as per usual with refs against our team) and it was the timing of the calls that hurt us more than the amount.

by Michael Uhlhorn on Sep 20, 2009 7:20 PM EDT up reply actions

like i said above, i noticed at least one hold they didn’t call on colon. it’s all part of the game.

Not surprising

The D was on the field too long. We couldn’t get off the field on third down.

Makes for an exciting game next week.

I’m sure I’ll be around to chat and answer questions later this week.

Till then, sorry for your loss – Jeff Reed usually makes those.

by jsl413 on Sep 20, 2009 7:17 PM EDT reply actions

Hey, I’m as pissed off as any of you, but we should get this straight:

Our team lost fair and square. Do we think the refs blew it for us? That could be said about a few of Pittsburgh’s recent wins (and that would be wrong). Do we want to make injury excuses? That wouldn’t be right, either, CHI was out Urlacher. Is it not a real loss if our K blows it? Nope, it’s as real as anything else, but our team has been on the favorable side of those kind of results before, too.

In the end, guys, it’s one loss, not the end of the world. If Tomlin and the boys can take this game and improve because of it, then I think that bodes very well for the rest of the season.

by gcn on Sep 20, 2009 7:21 PM EDT reply actions

Cmon, in the first half we kept two of their drives alive because our defense couldn’t play clean. Also, the fact that we play off instead of jamming the receivers. Our guys are talented, but sometimes we rely too much on that good luck. Yeah, Reed certainly didn’t help. What was up with his shanks?

by ammodog41 on Sep 20, 2009 7:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Improved...

Actually I thought we were better on offense this week. I saw quite a few dropped balls from Tone including the game winner.

I think Tomlin will make sure they work on what they need to.

I am looking for good things in Ohio next week.

Tired of Senseless losses

Is anyone else sick of seeing us lose games because of defensive penalties? We always find a way to beat ourselves. I love that our defense is aggressive but we cut out own throats when we keep their drives going by stupid mistakes!!!!!!

by ammodog41 on Sep 20, 2009 7:32 PM EDT reply actions

I don't know...

We looked good last year. Let’s see how things are going after week 4. The first three weeks are crazy every year. I think we will be ok, but it isn’t going to be easy.

Screw Jeff…learn how to kick a ball and hit a field goal, good god.

Why didn’t Mendenhall play more? He looked great today.

Ike Taylor looked confused the entire game.

Heal quickly Troy. Both TDs were scored against Carter. Who told me that replacing Troy with Carter was not a big change? You could not be more wrong.

Very disappointing loss.

and

Jim Nantz says something about the players slipping on the field, Simms says “It’s all about footwork.”

One loss

Didn’t expect to go 16-0. Hard loss ’cause Steelers looked like better team. Worries?

An odd, out of character game. Seemed out of sync most of the time and I can’t remember seeing so much concern on players faces on the sidelines before. Not the usual fire and confidence.

Odd, Holmes dropping passes, Ben flat out missing throws, Reed slipping and pulling twice, and Carter looks heavy and slow to react. Oh well, isn’t going to be a cakewalk to playoffs. We’ll have to watch ’em work. Looking forward to it.

Wow...

Gettin’ a tad bitter, guys…I’ll bet anyone here Baltimore will lose a game, let’s just lay off the retaliation for now. I mean, they won a big road game, and have the right to feel confident about their team right now.

Tennessee felt the same thing in Week 16. Then Baltimore did in the AFC Championship game. We won it all. None of those three teams got to that point based on their Week 2 game.
