Just what the doctor ordered

After a couple of days to cool off.  I realize the loss to the bears may have been just what the Steelers needed.  I thought things may be different with Tomlin, maybe we could string together wins in pace to a 15-1 season.  But the steelers just don't like to do things that way.    Well they did once but right now that is an anomaly.  Plus with the type of game the steelers play and not putting teams away you can be subject to these every once in a while.  Now with the everyone writing off the steelers puts a chip on the shoulders.  Face it the steelers of today do their best when the media counts them out, which they do willingly.  If you really look at the loss the ccause for concern is unwarranted.  We were in perfect position to win, the kicker just missed-twice.  Doesn't happen often, but if he makes one of those or tyrone carter just falls on a fumble then we are 2-0 and no one panics.  But this is just what this team needs as a wake up call.   With ESPN.com having the Ravens as the best team in the NFL and Pete Prisco of CBSsports.com creaming for a jets/giants super bowl, everyone has pittsburgh around 7 or 8 in their power rankings so far.  Which doesn't mean much, rankings this early in the season has about as much worth as pre-season polls in college sports.  But it still gives you an idea of what the perception of a team is in the eyes of journalist.  If you care about such things.  But we know players read headlines, they watch ESPN.  Like it or not players do use things like this for motivation, like some players using their draft position as motivation to prove people wrong who passed over them.  I expect the steelers to win this weekend but it won't be easy.  There is no such thing as a easy win.  We'll see if this is just what we needed.

Can we remove that Bullseye, yet

No loss is a good one. But if Steelers had any starry haze left in their eyes from last year, the loss should shake it out. Remind them how hard it is to win in this league, especially when the opponent brings their best game.

The Bengals hate the Steelers, so the target is still on the Super Bowl Champs for this week. But I’m guessing we see exactly what the Steelers have to bring. They will leave nothing for granted. Going to be a bust all game.

Not loss is good

but if you’re gonna take one, let it be one that you lose where its easy to see what needs to be changed to win, against someone outside your division and outside your conference so no tiebreakers will be effected.

Still finding its identity

Hard to think that a team that just won the super bowl would be looking for its identity but this one is. Run dominant vs. pass dominant and hopefully what we end up with is just plain dominant without regard to whether we are a passing team or a running team. Judging by some quotes from Tomlin I saw in another post that is what he is thinking as well, hoping to morph into a NE style offense, the skill positions are there, the line showed some signs that it might be able to get there. I believe the defense will play better next week even against a tougher offensive opponent. If we can get through the first 6 games without Troy in not too bad of shape, say 4-2 we will be alright. I think by then the offense will have gelled and once the defense is up to full strength the close games will only be against teams that are close in talent.

agreed DarinS

the Steelers will be fine….I said it before the season and I’ll say it again, we will lose 3 games this season—at Chicago, at Baltimore and at Miami (which will be meaningless due to the fact we already have home field clinched)….this team, like last year’s, will find it’s groove at the right time—December and January….I liked what I read in that other post, too; Tomlin said something about studying NE and them being able to beat you in many ways, something the Steelers will be doing soon….it’s going to be a fun year again, I love it when everyone counts us out-the Steelers are always better when no one thinks much of them
