It is hard to admit, but our defense is letting us down.

Believe me, I got home from the bar (because the game wasn't on local TV for me) and asked my seven-year old daughter to pinch me just to be sure it was for real.  Then I looked at her in her #10 jersey and asked why her man couldn't catch the ball.  She just laughed and asked if I wanted to wrestle (fortunately as a 29 year old with 2 superbowls under my belt I can still keep my perspective).

But, sitting here thinking about it, granted Jeff Reed has let us down two games in a row and for the first time in a while, Ben didn't get the ball in his hand for that amazing game winning drive, but I think we need to wonder about the defense.  Acknowledge Polamalu wasn't in the game, but does that really explain the defensive performance for the second week in the row.

Where is the outside LB's?  Where is Ike as a shutdown corner and our linebackers dropping back in solid coverage (especially since Lebeau seems to be hesitant to bring the heat with the blitz)?  Where is the solid tackling?  I used to think that as long as our defense was on the field for the end of the game, we were okay.   But now I just wish they would let them score quick like SB43 so we can get the ball in Ben's hands.

We can't get pressure on the QB unless we rush six.  When the most exciting sack from the day come from big snacks, what's wrong?  Woodley and Harrison, please show up (especially when we put Timmons on the right outside and he gets good pressure).  If they double team them, shouldn't we be set up somewhere else.  And oh yeah, Troy won't solve these problems (it's the BENGALS!!)

However, I remember back to 2006 and a Colclough muffed punt and we lost the third game of the season to the lowly Bengals, sound familiar?  Hopefully we don't end up 8-8 again.  And oh yeah, pinch me.
