Davis signs with the Steelers?
From the National Football Post:
The Pittsburgh Steelers have brought back a familiar face as they re-signed veteran fullback Carey Davis this morning, according to a league source.
Davis, who was the starter in the Super Bowl last season, was one of the final cuts as he lost out to rookie fifth-round pick Frank Summers. The 28-year-old started 11 games over the last two seasons for the Steelers and had previous stops in Indianapolis, Atlanta and Miami.
The Steelers’ lack of a running game has been a frequent topic of conversation in their 1-2 start, and the fullback has been minimized in the offensive scheme. Summers has reportedly struggled and was not active in Sunday’s loss to Cincinnati. Davis had been on the workout circuit, getting tryouts in Baltimore and St. Louis.
It's not know yet known what corresponding roster move will be made by the Steelers.

Tomlin giving Arians some orders?
Of course, Arians didn’t use Davis when he had him before. Is this the start of Tomlin giving Arians some hands-on direction regarding the running game? Here’s a fullback: use him!
And for the love of God, stop using Heath Miller as a blocking back! The guy is far too valuable to risk an injury by sticking him in there as a fullback. The man is one of the top tight ends in the game. Geez…

For lack of a better term F*** Limas Sweed right now. There is no reason to have him up until he can do what he is supposed to on the roster: catch footballs. Seeing that replay over and over again all week has made me sick to my stomach at how completely JV it looked.

Apparently FWP has turf toe(don’t know how bad) and Summers is having back issues, and yes it looks like Sweed may be sitting and McDonald will be #4(this is just a maybe but T said it is something he would absolutely consider, to me that means yes). T also said that he made his point to Mendy and they are moving forward. If FWP turf toe is bad enough to keep him out of the SD game we may finally get to see Mendy for more than a couple plays a game, I look forward to that because I truly think we haven’t seen enough of him to make judgement.
Need to ask the Chargers guy
… if there are any SD LBs that can fracture shoulders on very obvious and slow spin moves.

Thank-you for the question mark at the end of the title!

waste of roster spot
Davis is not a fullback. He couldn’t open a hole last year and that isn’t going to change now. Dan Kreider was the prototypical fullback and if we are going to use a fullback, he better be in that mold. Just because he is a familiar face doesn’t mean he’ll be effective in a game.
Welcome Back Mr. Carey Davis
The man has a Super Bowl Ring, show him some respect.
Mister Super Bowl Champion Carey Davis
You mean like the respect the Steelers showed him this year when they cut him so they could put a rookie on the roster?
Summers was all about potential and not about ability. The staff is in love with him and is afraid to expose him to other teams. C. Davis is never going to get better. He is a below average (at best) blocking back that rarely blocks and great hands that he uses to come one yard short of the first down marker.
He is better than the “tank” has been this season. IR is a nice way of keeping Summers around for his potential and getting a fullback that we never use anyhow onto the field. Summers failed abysmally as a blocker several times this year and did OK (at best) several times. C. Davis can do it better, but C. Davis is never going to improve and is clearly not good enough for other teams to grab. He has no upside and is no risk.
Summers is.
