ARIANS EXPOSED
The liberal offensive calling by Arians makes me sick. You can NEVER protect a lead in this league especially when our D is known to soften up towards the end of the game. I don't know if Tomlin is teaching the importance of 100% for 60 minutes but letting two close ones get away when it looked like the opposing team was moving the ball without a defense on the field is just plain unacceptable.
Arians should have kept passing to set up the run in the later parts of the 3rd and all of the 4th quarter. BUT NOOOOO........., he's going to run to eat the clock, be OKAY with punting the ball back and giving the Bungles MORE than enough opportunities to give us the loss.
I've had a problem with this slob since he became the O coordinator and I think he needs to go! Do your job Tomlin!!!

What other available O-coordinators are out there?
Sure, Shannahan wouldv’e been cool, since he atleast knows when to call big plays. Can we beg Joe Gibbs to come out of retirement? Kinda hurts to say it, but maybe we could get a college O-coordinator…maybe Ben’s old one…just a thought…

OCs
Could have talked to Cam Cameron
Could have kept Mark Whipple
Could have talked to Steve Sarkisian
Don’t like him as a HC but Mike Martz is hanging around and so is Shanahan. Didn’t like Chan Gailey but we could recycle him.
What about Jon Gruden? Jerome Bettis? Jillian Barbarie?
Heck at this point if Ehrhardt, Woody Widenhoffer or Tom Moore is still alive I say dig them up. As long as they don’t promote Zeirlien or hire someone who coordinated at Cleveland.
When You Run The Ball Good Things Happen
Don't like Martz
He would be worse for use than Arians. Martz doesn’t know how to run he’s QB get sack alot more than other because the WR routes make them take a long time to get open (sound Familar?) Arians will try to run the ball Martz doesn’t believe in the run.

Chan Gailey was awful
he was the guy who blew the 1997 AFC title game for us by putting the ball in Kordell’s hands instead of a red hot Bus who was plowing through Broncos players left and right. No way would I take Chan Gailey over Bruce Arians. Heck I’d take Sugar Ray Sherman back before Gailey.

Just Stating Some OC Possibilities For SteelFever
Not recommending Mike Martz for the job. Point is there are a ton of possibilities for Tomlin to look at. After the season there will be more. It isn’t as if BA is the ONLY guy in the world that could be an OC for the Steelers.
When You Run The Ball Good Things Happen
Now not only does Bruce Arians sucks at his job but he is a Liberal to boot.

Hey did you see Tampa Bay got rid of their OC this year?
Have you seen how that has worked for them? 341 ypg last year to 296 ypg so far this year. Firing an OC midseason is what desperate teams do and it rarely, if ever, ends positively. Sorry bud, like it or not Arians is here for the year.

I somewhat agree
I don’t completely blame B.A. on the offensive struggles. I think he does gameplan well however he leaves his play calling a bit to be desired but the biggest problem I think is the execution. A dropped ball here or missed assignment there and the offense would be humming. They move up and down the field with surprising ease they just can’t punch it in. I am not sure who else they could hire but I would love to see a Ron Erhardt type offensive coordinator if they did change. I don’t mind a finesse offense but they don’t have the personnel for a finesse offense, in my opinion I think they are best suited for a power offense with drive blocking replacing the zone scheme, more I-formations and play action passing.
I mostly disagree Buddy
The trend to conservative play-calling with a lead is misguided. Execution is the big problem and the offense in general is eating up yards, just not scoring. But this team is not built to be a power offense. It doesn’t get any push up front, has no fullback and no power runner. It is built to be a pass-first offense with multiple weapons and a play-making QB who can throw darts when he has protection and can buy time for downfield strikes when protection breaks down. We have to air it out, mix in the running game enough to make play-action effective, and use a balanced offense to close games out. This team should be averaging close to 30 points, not 15.

The reason
we don’t get much push I think is because the linemen are generally for the most part immobile and unathletic. The current schemes call for linemen to be able to block an area on the move. I don’t believe they are that type. They are big, powerful road graders. I haven’t looked at statistics but they have to have one of the larger lines in the league. Thats why I suggested the Ron Erhardt offense. I do agree with your assessments about the QB and our need to mix in the run game with the pass to balance things out as well as how many points we should be averaging.

Good call
Agree with blocking style. It is a choice to mostly zone. Don’t like it and never will. Can be a power run team at same time having strong pass game.
steeler.lifer is right too. It is execution that is the big problem. That gets solved during the week by the O coaches. That is where they are falling down

Forget about a college guy
That’s where Arians spent a lot of time, if not where he got his start.
Besides, the college game right now is pretty gimicky. They play top-notch D’s maybe 3 or 4 games tops – not the like pros who face 13 or 14 good D’s in a season.
They don't need an offensive coordinator.
I think Big Ben is ready to call his own plays. He couldn’t do much worse than Arians.
They did the no huddle more last week, and the results suffered. No huddle is a sometimes drive, the more we use it the less it will do.
That’s not Ben, he even admits he’s more schoolyard than playbook. Against an opposing DC you want a QB to call the plays, QB’s get predictable much faster than an OC. Ben has success in the No Huddle calling plays because he’s on a roll when they use it and he knows what throws he’s nailing, and calls plays accordingly.
You know what...
That’s an interesting thought. The only question is, how did he take not getting the head coach job 3 years ago. If he felt spurned, I doubt he’d be interested. But if it was a more amicable split, I can’t see why not… in the offseason of course.
Jeff Jagodzinski might be a option, if they decide to make a switch, which to be honest, I don’t think they will.

Isn't he an assistant head coach?
I’m not sure you can request a coach which is under contract with another team unless it’s for a promotion. That would have to be head coach.

Predicability is the problem
We always telegraph that a run is coming, they load the box with 8 or 9 or 10 guys, and we get stuffed. Our line is not good enough to run into stacked fronts. My son and I watch the game and yell out “Run!”, and we are seldom wrong.
Most of our successful runs of 5 yards or more come out of 3 wide, with only 6 or 7 in the box. Watch for yourself (although SD may not be the best test).
We need to pass more on first down, run more out of 3 or 4 wide. Give our linemen a chance- keep defenses guessing at least a little bit.
And can we please, please retire the 3 TE formation? IT DOES NOT WORK!
Arians asks guys to do things they can’t do, and that is not fair. (see – asking Spaeth to run block).
keep them guessing, and use your franchise QB. I don’t care about balance. I care about winning. See how easy it is to run when they think you are passing (see: Colts, Saints, Pats)
Have hated Arians since his first year, but he won a Super Bowl, so is not going anywhere.
