Ask Music City Miracles

Hello everyone,

Jimmy from Music City Miracles here to answer any questions you may have about the Tennessee Titans.  I do not think I have ever been this excited about an opening game, and I expect it to be a classic as it usually is when these to franchises meet.

Anyway, post a question below and someone from over at MCM will be sure to answer it.  Let's try our best to keep it civil.

how important is this game to titans than steelers?

One of the regulars did a game preview here and mentioned that this game is probably more important to the titans than steelers. I for one agree. do you? whats your take?

by surag238 on Sep 9, 2009 11:51 AM EDT reply actions

I don't agree that it is

This is a veteran team with a veteran coach that can keep things in perspective if they lose. Of course you always want to win your opener, but I don’t see this as being a make or break game for the Titans by any means.

how can this game not be “as important” to the Steelers? They’re opening the season at home, on national TV, celebrating their 6th Super Bowl with the home town fans, playing the TItans who whooped them last year. Also, there’s no slack in the AFC North this year…the Ravens are very, very good, and will challenge us for the title. This is a huge game for the Steelers.

any new news

about Nasty Nate, as far as if he is suiting up or not?

by indianasteelers on Sep 9, 2009 12:00 PM EDT reply actions

He has been limited in practice

It appears unlikely he will be able to go.

Good luck tomorrow...

No real game questions, but what are your opinions on Tuff Harris? Did he show anything special in preseason, or was he just another guy?

by NYSteelersFan4 on Sep 9, 2009 12:02 PM EDT reply actions

Really just another guy

The Titans have serious depth issues at defensive back, and they chose to cut him. Read into that what you will.

No question

just wanted to say the Cardinals were excited before the Super Bowl. At the end of the game I hope you feel similar to them after theirs. :)

Seeing as everybody here is excited about Stefan Logan...

How have the kick and punt coverage units looked for the Titans in preseason?

And, flipside, who is replacing Chris Carr?

by pghnorthside on Sep 9, 2009 12:39 PM EDT reply actions

The coverage units

have looked solid so far in the preseason.

As for replacing Chris Carr, that is a good question. It appears rookie RB Javon Ringer will handle kickoff duty, but I have no idea who will handle the punts.

Any reason to think, from the Titans side, that the Titans D won’t replicate their show versus the steelers last year?

I don't think so

All of the national media talk this offseason has been about the loss of Albert Haynesworth, but most people forget that Haynesworth (and Vanden Bosch for that matter) missed that game.

Can you give three reasons you think the Titans win this game.

Here are the 3 in favor of the Steelers.
1. Improved offense over last year, Steelers put up 24 hard earned points.
2. Same (but improved) Defense holds the Titans to under 15.
3. Special teams improvment by the Steelers puts the Titans in repeatedly difficult field position.

Steelers O-line still has a lot of holes

This offense has more weapons than last year’s version

Three concerns.

Three areas of concern for Steelers fans are:

1. The Offensive Line – The Steelers did nothing to upgrade a poor line that gave up a huge number of sacks last year.
2. Running Backs – Parker is getting old and gets injured frequently of late. There is worry that Mendenhall isn’t ready and/or good enough to replace him.
3. Bruce Arians – We don’t like his play calling or some of his run formations.

What are the three main areas of concern for Titan fans?

Do you think Kerry Collins has enough in the tank to play like last year? Or was last year a bit of luck spotted by a tremendous backfield?

by John Stephens on Sep 9, 2009 2:52 PM EDT reply actions

I think he does

He isn’t being asked to light the world on fire. He plays behind a very good offensive line with a very good backfield.

I've been skimming some posts over on MCM

Many people seem worried that the Titans coaching staff is expecting too much from the rookies, a situation accentuated by your injury situation. Is this a legitimate concern?

went to the last steelers titans matchup in nashville, i was ok that we lost that one. ben had a bad game and the loss was a good one to get out of our system. it set up the ravens beating you at home and then getting pounded by the steelers in the afc championship.

i know you guys love jeff fisher in nashville (lived there for years) but i have to wonder how long you give him before he’s gotta get you back to pay dirt… don’t get me wrong — he’s a quality coach — but in the end it’s the rings that matter.

afc south looks tough again, afc north looks tougher than last year… this is a big game for both teams- steelers at home, super bowl champs beginning their defense of the title; titans the last team to beat pittsburgh, looking to get inside the steelers heads & leave a few doubts (with 2 wins in a row) for if we meet again in the playoffs.

these are two good teams… i expect a great game.

by steely mcballs on Sep 9, 2009 7:08 PM EDT reply actions

Nashville is a relatively

patient city. Fisher has had 2 teams that “underachieved” (2001 and last season). Both playoff exits were brutal but can by no means be blamed on Fisher. He has a lot of rope here.

At the very least we can agree on no injuries. I can’t vouch for all AFC north teams, but I don’t expect the steelers to try to bend Johnson in half.

Jimmy

Do you expect Kerry Collins to experience drop off? Hes a journeyman Quarterback who suffers inconsistancies a lot in his career, hence why he has never stayed grounded with one team. It happened in NY, Carolina, Oakland etc…..what do you think the Titans as a team need to do to help him keep up his level of play from last year?

by Michael Hewitt on Sep 9, 2009 9:03 PM EDT reply actions

They need to keep him in

the same role he played last season, which they will. They aren’t asking him to win very many games. They just ask him to take care of the ball. He can do that again.

Hopefully I'm not late

But what is Jared Cook’s status? Is his injury anything substantial? Also, for the purposes of fantasy football (in which I own Cook…>_>), how large is his role in the passing game expected to be?

Hey, an out is an out - unless you're Mario, in which case it's probably two outs. -UtesFan89
