So the Offseason is upon us, and as I look forward to next season, I am looking at how we can improve the team. Obviously we can always improve through the draft, whether that is by getting Earl Thomas or Terrence Cody, or resigning our own players.
This post though, will mainly be about how much cap room we appear to have, and possible FA targets we may look at going into next season. I know we are the Steelers, not Jerry Jones' Cowgirls or Dan Snyders' Redskins, but this may be a year where going out and getting a top FA and a supplemental piece could help us rebound after a down year (and allow us to focus on other needs in the Draft with an abnormally high position).
According to projections, before the draft and resigning our players, we stand to have about 27 Million dollars in cap room next year (http://www.footballsfuture.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=362071). Assuming that 7-8 Million of that will be spent on the draft (which is based on inflation of salaries and our draft position off of last year's 5 Million spent), you are looking at 20 million dollars under the cap left to sign our own players and FA's.
Major FA's this year are:
1) Brandon Marshall WR: Grew up a Steelers fan who hoped to be drafted by the Steelers. Has long said he hopes to play for the Steelers one day. Even though he has personality issues, he would come into a much stronger locker room and honestly, when did we ever hear about Brandon Marshall having serious off the field issues until Josh McDaniels came in there this year. He would be happy here, and I doubt he would make any problems, just like he didnt before under Shannahan.
2) LenDale White RB: We all know what he did to the Terrible Towel. But we also know what he does to opposing defenses on third and one or the goal line. He is a beast and exactly what we need out of a short yardage back. I think he could be a serious threat to add to our team, and would give us our swagger back in our running game.
3) Vince Wilfork NT: Four years younger than Casey and better. Obviously would cost more, but being 4 years younger and an upgrade, could prove worth it on a four-year deal: then let him walk at age 32 just like we did with Casey?
4) Carlos Rogers CB: Top-10 CB in the league who would instantly make our secondary elite. Ike on one side, Rogers on the other with Troy patrolling the middle would give us a legitimate secondary.
I support signing the signings in Order the most, what do you guys think? Who do you think we should bring back, or what FA's would you like to see brought in, if any with our 20 Million in cap room?
