BTSC Senior Week Discussion Thread

I'm sure I'm not the only one keeping a close eye on the Senior Bowl practices this week. The NFL Network aired their first practice session yesterday and two more are slated to air today (including one that starts right now). There's about a million ways to keep up on all the events (some listed below) but I figured we could also use a thread to talk about who is looking good or who's stock is plummeting.

Guys to follow on Twitter if you want some blow-by-blow analysis:

David Syvertson - Will Spencer - Shawn Zobel

Sites that update fairly regularly with updates from practice:

Mocking the DraftDraft Insider - Walter Football- CBS/Draft Scout

I'm sure you guys have some other draft-centric sites and if you want me to add them to the list, just leave a comment. We can amass a master list of sites to follow the draft. For now though......cuss and discuss.

Steelers scouts next to me raving about Alualu LINK

his scouting report from MTD: Alualu is a tenacious defensive lineman with a non-stop motor. He could be a very good 3-4 defensive end, but is physical enough to hold up in a 4-3. (6-2, 295 from Cal)

Tyson Alualu...

Here’s a link to his bio page ay Cal. A few notes of interest:

Has played in all 51 games possible with 39 starts over the last four seasons, including a run of 38 consecutive starts

Durability… check.
received team’s Brick Muller Award as most valuable defensive lineman and Joe Roth Award for best exemplifying courage, attitude and sportsmanship, named by team as a Cort Majors Captain and team’s Senior Lifter of the Year

The Brick Muller award is given to Cal’s best defensive linemen, he won it 3 times in his four years (respected talent… check). The Joe Roth is a sportsmanship award, odviously, which shows he’s got a great attitude toward the game. Voted a captain his senior year (respect from his teammates, shows leadership… check). Lifter of the yaer, I’m just going to guess he’s strong.
he and his wife, Desiré, have a son, Tyreé, and a daughter, Dereon

A family man, which is nice because we shouldn’t have to worry about any immaturity.

Anybody out west know anything more about him?

Cam Thomas (N Carolina) has looked decent

He keeps getting knocks for a lack of pass rush moves (come on he’s 330 pounds) but he’s immovable once he anchors and at least flashed the ability to collapse the pocket at time with a decent bull rush. If we miss out on either Williams or Cody, Thomas wouldn’t be a back fall back option.

On Dan Williams first day of practice:
It was a good overall day for Williams, who showed a good anchor in 9-on-7 drills when posting up inside and fighting double teams. When he stays low out of his stance he is strong and powerful and able to good surge and penetration.

-Via Todd McShay

He goes on to mention that he does get winded, and when he does he tends to stay more upright and is much more maneuverable though. That’s a common concern for a big man.

Terrence Cody weighed in at 370 lbs...

Wasn’t he supposed to be trimming down?

last year Andre Smith and now Cody. some one needs to find some new agents for guys coming out of Alabama

maybe it isn't necessarily overweight for him

I know all anybody has said is that he is overweight and needs to lose a few pounds but cmon, he could dunk a basketball when he weighed 417 in JC he has already taken 50 pounds off that frame, has nobody thought that he is just meant to be a huge human being?

I wonder if McClain will eventually have that problem

He’s already huge as it is and might continue to get bigger.

McClain is cut

and shouldn’t get bigger (unless he wants to) its not as if he has a weight issue. Cody has a weight issue, well it is perceived as one by bandwagon draftniks who don’t watch any games.

I wouldn't call him cut

I’ve seen him play for two years now and that guy is pretty thick. And it ain’t all muscle.

Today Cody seemed to have a bit more power than Williams

drove a couple guys back better than Williams did his couple.

I getting tired of saying this: Dick LeBeau’s system is so complex very few rookies can make an impact.
