Let The "Fire Arians" Posts go into High Gear
Never will happen. Just due to the numbers alone; Mendenhall 1000 yards rushing, Ward 1000 yards receiving, Holmes 1000 yards receiving, and Roethlisberger 4000 yards passing. I'm not saying we don't need a change, but I can't see it happening.
Actually with or without Arians, I think the offense can be even better next year (if the OL is tweaked) with a sophomore Mike Wallace and a year of starting experience for Rashard. It's a pity Willie probably won't be here next year, with all the rest, he finally looks like "Fast Willie" again. I wish him well were ever he goes, he's always been a class act.

I don't care if Roethlisberger had 10,000 yards..
his situational play calling was questionable on many occasions (double pass today, sweep in KC etc.) and the offense was subpar in the red zone. He was unable to help our struggling defense by going to the run late in games. He never stuck with the run when it was working and had a legitimate phobia when it came to running a screen pass. Get rid of him.
Arians needs to make like a tree.....
and burn…….also, fall down without anyone to hear his cries……………also, be infested by squirrels.
and be turned into toothpicks
And get the f*ck outta here
had to finish your beginning with the Boondock Saints quote. But, agree Arians has to be shown the door. Playcalling was too inconsistent, didn’t know when to call a run and didn’t want to run period most of the time. Fell in love with an empty back set that continually spelled sack and never learned. Failed to throw anything creative into the offense until the last few weeks and the one today was awful. It’s time to get back to the physical Steelers we have all known for years and that requires pounding the ball and milking the clock with the run. This will help our defense as well by keeping them off the field more and fresher to make plays when they are on the field.
To finish: You know what they say: People in glass houses sink sh-sh-ships.
Bringing the Wood!
Hopefully Arians will learn something from this season
His offensive schemes generate huge yards but fail close to the end zones. Maybe he can make adjustments during the off-season to fix this problem.
Except for 3-games (Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland), the offense played well enough to win.

I was one of the fans calling for Arians to go but now that I think about it
I agree with theatrain about Arians situational calls but the offense for the most part was scoring more points than they did last season. Problem was the defense was not able to keep the other teams from scoring in the 4th Qtr.

everyone’s numbers were good, but the offense certainly needs to be tightened up a bit. A run on 3rd and 1 might not change the stat lines that much, but it might change the outcome of the game. opening up the big play with a few short throws still gives you the big play, but maybe without the INTs and sacks that come from looking for/forcing the big play. Arians problem is that for every play that works, there’s been one that brings on the punt team, or worse…
Arians gameplan doesn't mix with the overall blueprint for the team....
And that’s why he needs to go. The double pass today was a perfect example of Arians’ ego on full display. Steelers were basically running the Dolphins completely over at that point, and he puts the ball in Holmes’ hands………I knew as soon as Ben fired it backwards what was coming, and quite obviously, so did the fins. Arians offence operates well if you look at it in a vacuum, but it doesn’t fit well with into a winning program. We have some great offensive parts, but far too often the game hangs in the balance at the end of the game, and quite often against inferior talent, they are allowed to hang around. Bruce is basically a spread/run&shoot guy. There’s a time and place for spreading things out, but way too often we go shotgun or empty backs on third and short, or even 2nd and short for that matter.
Arians’ offence operated much the same when he was in Cleveland……….very exciting when working well, but overall does not help the defense. Thankfully last year, the defense didn’t need much help – until the 4th Q of the SB anyway. While the O and D are never on the field at the same time, they really do need to complement each other. Our defensive woes this year can be chalked up largely to injury – and being left hanging in the breeze while the offence went 3 and out in the 4th quarter while not removing any time from the clock.
For our D to return to dominance, we need an offensive gameplan that is based on ball control. I’m not all for the run as i’ve seen several other posters, but I think we all know there’s a time and place where we need to stick with it – and that just doesn’t happen much with Arians.
Sorry for the long post…….i’m really hoping we will be bidding Bruce adieu.
Stats are great and all..
but winning is far more important and his play calling when we were in position to score or needed to run the clock was consistently poor all year. Yes, the individual stats were great but really probably could have been even greater with a better OC. I am not saying having a quarterback go for 4,000, two receivers and a RB for 1000 isn’t good enough but really there was so much talent on the offense any decent OC could have gotten those numbers out of that team. What was poor was red zone scoring and game ending drives. There were several games where they simply did not play up to their potential and that was in large part due to poor play calling. Player performance in those games certainly contributed but not as much as BA. He can be absolutely brilliant at times but is just too inconsistent. Will he get fired, I doubt it. There are many issues to address in the off season but my bet that the adjustments will be minor.
Actually, No ...
…the earlier a decision is made the better, both in terms of locating a replacements and preparing for the draft.

Defense
First off the Steelers need to look at rebuilding the 2ndary. Our defensive backs are terrible. They dont play the ball. Cleveland Browns got rid of Mr Gay because he could not defend and we pick him up? Why? ..Ike Taylor does not impress me, Deshea, has lost a step. Todays NFL recievers are ranging from 6’0 to 6’5 and you need D’backs to be at least a minimum of 6’0. Next Special teams? Well if we could get a kicker who could put the ball in the end zone at least 80% of the time on kick offs, special teams may not be that big of a problem. There are a lot kickers in the collegiate level that are graduating that can do just that. I could go on and on but I’ll stop here.
Cleveland did not get rid of William Gay. We drafted him in ’07.

FIRE ARIANS IMMEDIATELY!
Every day brings future to past, every breath leaves me one less to my last. DT
Offense
I have no problems with Bruce , actually I hope he stays. Correct me if I am wrong but was not Bruce the O’cordinator last season when the Steelers went 12-4 and won the Super Bowl? Yes he made some bone headed calls and some exciting calls in the Miami game but if the double pass play would have went as planned then it would have been a GREAT play and everyone would say awesome call. The offensive has performed well through out the season, it is the Defense that has cost us games.
I can see why people defend him
The offense has been pretty good for the most part during his time as OC (except last year when the D won all but the Super Bowl). Big Ben has set the Steeler record for passing TDs and passing yards but…..
look our offense. We have a lot of skilled players. Lets consider the weapons we have on offense. Ben, Dixon (arguably), Spindenhall, FWP, Holmes, Ward, Heath, and Wallace……..and Colon and Kemo have turned into some pretty quality maulers in the ground game, and Starks is all around pretty nifty (though I wouldnt consider anyone on our o line, or any o line, a weapon).
Anyway, look at that and give it to some horrible OC and you will still probably get some pretty good production. But put it in the hands of a good OC and youll get an unstoppable offense. I don’t think the O has been good because of Arians, its been good because of who is in it. Sure every now and then Arians makes some good calls and every now and then he makes a good game plan. But its 50/50 at best, not good enough.

Take Ben out of the equation...
….and what would it look like then? I say it would look pretty awful. True that Ben causes lots of sacks by trying to make plays, but if he didn’t look to extend plays, where would we be? Thank God for Ben
thats beside the point, this is an arguement against Arians, not Ben
but since you mentioned it, with receivers like ours I think most QBs would do fine in our system.
I mean, Dixon was thrust into a starting role and did alright. A lot of QBs could produce in our offense…..but Ben makes it elite……….well, elitish…..wont be elite so long as Arians is running it.
Wrong call at the wrong time
Not trying to speak for everyone, but i think many believe that the double pass is not a good call when you’re starting to dominate another team – which the Steelers were doing at the time of that turnover. You’re right – it likely would have gone unnoticed if the play had succeeded or simply fallen incomplete, but why pull that out of the playbook when your ‘regular’ stuff has the team rolling down the field. It goes back to the lack of situational feel that Arians has for the game.
Arians remains as OC
The Steelers might not be done making changes in their coaching staff, but the biggest development yesterday was the one they didn’t make.
After a long and what was termed “productive” meeting with coach Mike Tomlin, offensive coordinator Bruce Arians was told he will return as offensive coordinator in 2010, putting to rest his status after reports surfaced he would be fired.
