Continuing my project to disprove the myth that Ben holds the ball too long, and is therefore responsible for half the team's sacks, I have broken down the Dolphin game.
The Steelers gave up 3 sacks. The first sack, Ben had 6 seconds. Two WR fell down, he ran out of the pocket but was tackled for a 1 yard loss. He held it too long, but the WR fell down, no one open. The other two sacks he had two seconds, and barely 3 seconds. So, you can put one of three on him. But....
5 other times, he had less than 3 seconds- he escaped for 10 yard run, escape incomplete, escape 8 yard completion, hit/fumble reviewed and called incomplete (2 seconds), near sack incomplete pass.
By my math you can hang one sack on him, and he avoided 5. He aint the problem. I will continue this next year and see if I am right, or if the "conventional wisdom" is right.
Just FYI- Zeiren was on Cleveland staff with Arians, so it is possible that Arians is defending him when he hangs half the sacks on Ben.
I'm just saying.
