I guess I am the weirdest Steeler fan ever, because I enjoy our bye week. I think it’s because the Steelers make me crazy. I cannot tell you the number of times I yell and scream at the team (usually I am yelling at Ben or Reed). Our games are often a nail biter and I turn into a crazy person. I remember a few years ago, sitting in a rehab center with my dad (who was recovering from an illness), watching the Steelers play someone… I don’t even remember who… I got so annoyed and I yelled, “Come ON, you sons-a-bitches!”
There really is no crying in football, but there is yelling. At least there is for me. So it’s not surprising that I use our bye week to relax and enjoy football. I usually catch up on the other teams in the league. I watch certain games with interest and it’s the breather I need to get fired up for (survive??) more Steelers football.
This weekend I watched a few games.
My must-see game for the weekend was the Giants-Texans matchup. I picked the Giants to win. The Giants of old are back and look to be in great form. That makes me really happy because the Giants are my second favorite team.
The next most interesting game for me was the Cowboys-Titans game, and it did not disappoint. I picked the Titans to win because I think Dallas is a worse team than most people admit. The Cowboys lost, again, in their usual fine fashion and are now last in their division.
The biggest head scratcher was the San Diego/Oakland game. That game was just weird from start to finish.
Then I finished up by watching the 49ers give the game away to the Eagles. I picked the 49ers to win. I can hear you now. 49ers? Are you crazy?? Why on earth would you have picked them to win?? Are you new to football?? Hmmm... when I made my picks, this matchup was a tossup. I thought the 49ers were better than their record reflected, and the Eagles have some key injuries. I thought the 49ers might finally win a game, and I figured this would be it. Boy, was I wrong. I guess I wanted them to win more than they wanted to win. I ended up falling asleep barely into the 2nd half of the game.
Tonight’s matchup should be interesting. This game could go either way. I picked Minnesota. It was literally eenie-meenie-miney-moe when I made my pick.
So… Steeler fans… what kind of bye-week fan are you? Do you need the breather, as I do?
What matchups were you most interested in watching?
Which game(s) made you the happiest?
