Looks like our team just can't help shutting down quarterbacks... including our own

According to ESPN, Dennis Dixon has been placed on IR with a knee injury

Now, this move has a lot of implications to it. Because of the newly freed roster spot, the Steelers can now promote someone from their practice squad (i.e Steve McClendon) to the active roster for the game against Baltimore in order to bolster the D-Line depth. Secondly, it helps rid of the question of who's going to be cut now that Ben is coming back; Dixon won't count against the 53 man roster, just as Ben didn't while he was away. This move by the FO also shows the trust that they have in Charlie Batch and Byron Leftwich now, as the return of Ben allows for them to go with reliability rather than athleticism. It's just for one game, and if it was to be, why not make it one week sooner?

The most intriguing aspect of this all is wondering what will happen to Dennis Dixon once the season ends. Assuming there IS a season next year, Dixon would be a restricted free agent. However, with such little game film to work with, will any team be willing to cough up a 2nd round pick for our 3rd stringer? Or will we be able to keep him at a fairly low price?
