Steelers Host Ravens at the Quarter Pole with First Place in the AFC North at Stake: BTSC Week 4 Game Thread (2nd Half)

It's halftime and the Baltimore Ravens hold a 10-7 lead over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Baltimore, not surprisingly to me, is playing very well on both sides of the ball. They hold a 181-92 edge in yards gained and half possessed the football for more than 5 minutes than have the Steelers. The start of the second half should be interesting. The Ravens get the ball to begin things, and if the Steelers can get a stop and then get points or even just some good field position, they'll be in great shape.

Baltimore's legit guys! It's going to be tough but man this would sure be a gratifying win. Go Steelers!

Anybody remember...

we’re on our 4th string QB? And we’re still in this game? BAL has looked better than us today and we are only down by 3. I feel good…perhaps not great, but good.

Yes, but still Batch doesn´t look very smart or sharp is that throw, in your last shot you must

throw your receiver or outside of the field, And even that, Polamalu doesn´t look as sharp as usual- I recognize that b/c He just doesn´t persignated as much as usual, you know: The D in the Huddle, Wich side of the field are U (Polamalu) are U going to cover? Yeah a pretty simple D for Him

O sales tickets,...and let D rest a little, and D Win Championships.

It's not really about Batch being in the game.

It’s the stupidity of Arians that pisses me off. Yes, the Ravens’ D is legit and maybe the best in the league. But week after week, Arians calls ridiculous plays that don’t put our guys in a position to be successful.

Example: an empty set. Why in the world would you put a 38-year-old career back up in the shotgun all by himself against the Ravens’ D? Just stupid.

Why, when Dixon was our QB, did Arians never call any bootlegs or plays to get Dixon on the perimeter? His best weapon is his legs, yet Arians trys to turn him into a pocket passer. Just makes absolutely no sense.

That’s what makes me sick.

I completely disagree.

Because of our awful offense (and the Ravens had something to do with it), our D was on the field ALL DAY. They got two turnovers that gave the O prime field position each time, and the O did nothing but go backwards and made us settle for long field goals (not making excuses for Reed, just saying). The defense is fine. I’ll admit that the Ravens drove the ball with ease that last drive, but the Ravens picked up our blitzes all day and sometimes you just have to give credit to the other team for making plays. But I don’t blame this loss on the D at all. I blame it on an offense with a 38-year-old statue of a QB that couldn’t do anything against the Ravens, and not to mention 11 penalties.

3-1 is not bad

But that one loss being against a div opponent sucks. It can come back to bite us during the end of the season.

Although everyone had an equal hand in the loss I am really disappointed with our D. Flacco and co. were moving down the field at will. The last drive, which went for a TD and the drive before that which was stopped was like a pile driver on our defense. The unit didn’t at all looked good out there.

I am glad that Ben will be back next time we face them.

I thought Batch took too many shots downfield.

In manageable situations, we could have simply thrown for the first down, but I found that Batch tended to prefer going for the home-run. Granted, a few times he had Wallac wide open, but I would have preferred the sure thing.
Also, the offensive line just sucks. That many false starts in a crucial situation AT HOME makes me sick to my stomach.
Same goes for the special teams, who absolutely choked at a crucial spot in the game.
Arians called a decent game. The 7-minute drive was a thing of beauty. The counter in the end zone kinda had me scratching my head, though. This loss, I think, rests mostly on the shoulders of the offense.

I was thinking about this earlier

Maybe we should of just took the safety instead of punting from end zone and make the ravens have to drive the field on us with no timeouts. Just a thought

Nah

I preferred forcing them to punch it in (which they did, unfortunately) instead of gifting them the ability to kick for the win. Those losses hurt the most.

Hey Guys

I’m not here to troll so don’t address me as so. I just want to say that this was a great game, and fun to watch. It was a classic, that’s for sure. And This is just such a great Rivalry. I can’t wait for the next installment in this series. Great Game guys, really.

It will be interesting to watch the next game in the series. You guys get BEn back and we get Reed back. As long as both teams can stay healthy it will be another great one later in the year. And I want to commend you guys for playing as good as you did with out Ben for the first 4 week. I was hoping you would go 0-4, but unfortunately I was wrong. It looks like our division will be a race all year long. It should be fun. But here’s to the Browns raping the Bengals!

Frickin Charlie Batch ...

He had 1 good drive the entire game. If it werent for the yards he left out on the field right before the field goal attempts we probably could’ve gave up that TD and still walked out with a W. I think the pick to end the game was a fitting conclusion to sum up his day (minus the TD drive in the 4th quarter).

Also, was I the only one who saw Oher false start like 5-10 times?? I watched it over and over and I’m convinced he was taking his first step a half second early. Where were you when we needed you Ed “Muscle Milk” Hochuli?

Even with all the mistakes we made, I’m feeling pretty confident that a pissed off defense and Big Ben are going to dominate the league starting in week 6.

by Steelerfan in the alamo on Oct 3, 2010 4:24 PM EDT reply actions

I agree 100%

I think it’s a lack of confidence in the O-line on Oher’s behalf causing him to think he needs ot step up more. He should settle down when Gaither comes back to help with the other edge.

I just cant believe that, with all the holds and false starts called against us (especially in our last possession), the refs didnt call a single one of Oher’s early steps.

Even though it wont change the final score, I sure would like an apology from the league office on my desk Monday morning.

Agreed

The DB’s played lousy coverage. We are always “weak” against those mid range passes, which work especially well against a prevent defense. We give them “too much” space.

Lefty has one of the strongest arms in the league and he stands 6'6" tall. Baltimore could not have pressured Lefty like they did Batch

It would have been a whole different offensive scheme and a less aggressive Ravens D due to his arm. How quickly we forget what Lefty did in 2008 and he is only a year older than Ben.

3-1 is nice but the entire team should be pi$$ed about what just happened. Anyway, B-less has a pretty tough schedule coming up as well. We should have similar records in out second matchup barring a major injury.
