Chargers fan looking for the skinny on Tyrone Carter
Tyrone Carter is apparently a new substitute on the Chargers to help fill in while Steve Gregory serves a four-game suspension, and possibly to fill a veteran backup role for the remainder of the season, especially if CJ Spillman doesn't get his act together. What's Carter like? What are his strengths? Does he have any gas left in the tank?
Comments
I can say he has nothing left in the tank.
Ty will give EVERYTHING on every single play and will never give up but unfortunately his physical skills (which were never great) have now almost completely gone, meaning he has almost no worth in this league anymore. He was a great Steeler and will be fondly remembered, Denver 2009 baby!

Ty was good as long as Troy P was on the field
otherwise he just does not have any if he ever did

hes not as bad as people make him out to be
he lacks the skills but does try hard. However, he plays timid a lot but hits pretty hard. Still though, his tank is near empty.
at his best
he was average in just about every area. average coverage skills, average tackling, average instincts. he had a great hit on greg olsen in last years game against chicago so he can still contribute, but i would worry if he had to start.

Carter will likely get undressed consistently with no Troy next to him
He is an OK backup and great team player but I would worry about him every week if he was starting. Anyway, good luck this season and maybe we’ll see each other in January(hopefully with Carter at safety!!!).

As for CJ, he’s going to get his. That’s what he does. You can’t hold him under 100 yards, so forget that.

Sucks dude
He is rather slow and takes terrible angles on plays quite often. Not a great tackler. Decent at diagnosing a play. Decent in coverage.

Echoing what others have said
Carter is good at recognising what an offense is up to and being in the right defensive package to stop it, but his lack of speed lets him down.
His tackling looks bad, but to be honest we’ve been spoiled by years of watching Polamalu, so much so that everyone else seems like a bum by comparison.
