... I'VE KEPT MY MOUTH SHUT FOR A YEAR BUT...
I know Coach LeBeau has been great in the past and I love him like everybody but, he must be daydreaming of fishing at Pymatuning Lake instead of watching the game and following the situations. When the Saints are '1st and goal' on the 9, running a Zone Pass Defense, especially positioned on the back half of the endzone, is just stupid. Brees can either flood a zone gap or throw under at the goal line and the receiver can fall over the goal line. After all, we're talking about Drew Breeshere, not Matt Lienert. On this short a field, there is no time for a secondary defender to decide 'is that my man in my zone or his man in his zone' - whoops! If our secondary can't cover receivers 'man to man' in this '19 yard field' situation, we don't deserve our stats. And don't quote me or believe our pass defense stats, we've been lucky. We can't keep expecting Troy to bail us out - besides, along with everybody else, he's not allowed to hit anymore.
Coach LeBeau, defensively you have done great things in your career for the strategy, excitement and advancement of the game and the Steelers, but you just aren't into it anymore - and you have not come up with any changes or adjustments in a decade. You've become a stubborn player in a 25 year old marriage - you just put in the time with no desire to interact with your partner. Please retire, so we can remember you as a Corvette rather than an Edsel.
My sincere wishes for a enjoyable retirement, really. Thanks for the memories.
