Around SBN: Why Hockey Fans Should Root For Devils Vs. Kings

Strange Days

Policeman: Mr Rothlisberger, that young lady claims you sexually assaulted her.

Rothlisberger: What?..No...I was just trying to tackle her.

Policeman: Oh, okay Mr. Rothlisberger, you can go.

I think I'm going to use that as my defense for everything for a while and see if it works. My guess is that such a feeble lie only works in the NFL.

I think Steelers Nation needs to do two things: One, we need to mobilize and as a massive group, taking turns following the NFL refs around to see who is influencing them, or thwart it. Two, we need to boycott any NFL products and just send the Rooneys $20 a month until the bottom line forces those behind the curtain to change their ways. I mean, you know Steelers Nation has to make up a very large piece of the NFL pie. Can the NFL really afford to anger us? Seriously, I just feel like the NFL is giving the Steelers and their fans the finger.

I have new found respect for Ben. He is tough. Period. Just looking at that nose had me curled up on the floor. Do you think any other quarterback would take the punishment he has and stay on the field, much less win the game? I know, I know, some of you are thinking Tom Brady, and certainly he has stood up to a stiff wind when Mother Nature wasn't flagged on several occasions, but I say Ben is tougher. My standard for tough has always been Don Meridith (God rest his soul), who, I believe, once played with a punctured lung (Or maybe a collapsed lung. Something that would make me run to my mother crying). I think Ben is approaching that kind of tough. I say if he gets into the HOF they use his broken nose for the bust.

Oh, a third thing: We need to send James Harrison lawyers, guns and money (Who's song is that?). There has got to be something he can sue the NFL over. Some kind of human rights violation. Isn't there something in the Bill of Rights about a linebackers right to sack the quarterback without being held (Those may not be the exact words)? By the way, if you send a lawyer, poke a hole in the box. I think refs would be a little hesitant to let that flag fly if they knew Steelers Nation was sending guns, or that James had access to some really crazy fans (How about this, at the beginning of a game, James whistles really loud, a fan stands up, James points to a ref and the fan nods and takes his seat? It's worth a try). In the end, I think we should just send the money. I've read that some fans are already doing it and that James is giving the money to charity. Hmmm...Maybe the charity is behind this.

How about the hit on Hines Ward, a future hall-of-famer, by the Hated Patriots that not only puts him out of the game, but ends his streak of consecutive games with a catch? Huh? Wasn't that the exact same hit as James Harrison got fined $75,000 for? Refresh my memory here, what happened to the Patriot player that made that hit?

I have this picture in my head of Goodell standing in front of Kraft and asking, "Please sir, can I fine one of your players?", and Kraft responds, "Fine, as long as the NFL reimburses him for the mental anguish. Oh, here are the shoes I'm wearing tomorrow. Shine them and have them back when you deliver my paper in the morning."

I think the only conclusion you can reach is that if some faction of the NFL isn't behind the rather skewed treatment of the Steelers, then the refs are crooked. Either way...

Speaking of the Hated Patriots, for those of you honest, law abiding citizens out there, let me clear it up for you: they are cheating, AGAIN. Do I have any proof? No. I'm using history to make my judgement. Really, do you think that Belichick always has them in the right offense or defense? Doesn't it remind you of when they were cheating? Genius my ass!

To me, the Jets don't seem as much of a contender in the AFC any more. I mean, sure they lost big to the cheaters, but you must discount that loss and look at the Dolphins loss. Two in a row and surely three by next week. To me, the Steelers, Ravens and Hated Patriots are the teams to watch in the AFC. Of course, this is still the NFL and you know that wing-nut team will show up for the playoffs. Who will it be? No, not the Jags.

That's about as much ramble and rant as I have in me for the first time back in a long while. If I have recreated any posts or arguments, I'm sorry, I haven't had that much time to catch up.

GO STEELERS!

I know you meant well, but are we seriously still talking about the sexual assault issue?

Other than that, fun read. One other thing though, Tom Brady isn’t tough and he definitely isn’t Ben tough. Brady would be dead now if he had to work with the O-Lines that Ben has.

Two things.

First, the song “Lawyers, Guns, and Money” is Warren Zevon.
Second. Is that pic of Holmes really necessary?

Yeah.

Lots of good tunes, including Werewolves of London, and my particular favorite, Excitable Boy. Sadly, Warren passed away a year or two ago.

We might hate the Pats and suspect them of cheating,

but nobody is playing better, more consistent football right now. If the Steelers used more of our starting players even half as effectively as Belichick does week after week, nobody would beat us. We’ve got more talent overall than the Pats or any team, but we don’t take full advantage of it.

by Billy52 on Dec 14, 2010 5:57 PM EST reply actions

stop with the cheating accusations!!!

I have rooted for the Steelers since the early 70s, and I do not like the fact that the Pats have had their number for a long while now. But you cannot throw out accusations of cheating without proof or evidence. You argue that Belichick must be cheating because he cheated before and because his team is doing well now. This is absurd. Belichick set all kinds of records with a team immediately after being fined for violating NFL rules—a time during which he most certainly was on a very short leash and being carefully watched. He is putting up the same kind of performance now. If he likely did it then without breaking rules, then I don’t see why he cannot follow up with a similar performance now. Before he died, Bill Walsh said that he saw a lot of the great 49’er dynasty in the Pats and that he expected the Patriots, who at the time had 3 SB wins, to get at least two more over the next 5-10 years. He saw that Belichick had installed a great system and had a great QB to drive it. He knew then what the Pats could accomplish with it. To accuse the Pats of cheating just because they are producing offense the way teh 49’ers did it—actually, better—is a really bad argument and makes you look like a fool with sour grapes.

There were many Houston Oiler fans that couldn’t appreciate what Chuck Noll had built threw innovative drafting—I’ll take the super talented African American players that other teams won’t—and great discipline—you will do this my way and do it 100 times so that you are automatic on game day. But looking back, their comments would be off-base. Noll built a truly great franchise and the result of his hard work and discipline, which was also shown by his players came through on game day. So it is with the Patriots. Their offense is a well-oiled machine that does not rely on luck but on probabilities. They have been more disciplined in their preparation and it shows on game day. Brady makes average receivers look spectacular and their schemes give them an edge when they lack talent. As Bum Phillips once said, “after I beat you, I can take younses and you take mineses, and I’ll whup you again.” This is what Belichick has accomplished. Just because you are jealous of their success doesn’t mean that you should deny it or make up reasons to doubt the legitimacy of it. The Steelers need to develop more consistency in their offense, which better coaching and better discipline in practice would help establish. Your criticism should be levied at the other 31 teams in the league, including the Steelers, for not matching what Belichick is doing. Instead, you take the easy way out. Very sad.

I Am Constantly Proven Wrong!

For example, I didn’t think it was possible to be a hardcore Steelers fan AND a Patriot smoocher too. Not that there’s anything wrong with it. I know plenty of nice people who are Patriot smoochers.

ec, I know you think that the Patriots could be this good just because Belichick is so much smarter than every other coach. You’re entittled to you opinion. But, Belichick is a PROVEN cheater. There is actual proof, hardcore evidence of what the man is willing to do to win (Josh McDanials recent comments confirm Belichick’s understanding of what he was doing). Video taping is just what he got caught doing. So far. So you see ec, while you are entittled to you opinion, I am entittled to mine. And that opinion is that Belichick has a very low moral character and is willing to do dubious things to win (That is a proven fact), and he will do it again in the future, if not now (That is the opinion).

This Just In:

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/12/16/westhoffs-accusations-against-pats-potentially-violated-league-rules/

I am pretty sure there is ALOT of underhanded, unethical practices going on in the NFL today, and I am pretty sure that the Patriots are not “squeaky clean” ever since they were expunged of their transgressions and forgiven for all their sins from the SpyGate scandal!

I just hope that the Steelers organization will choose to take the High Road when presented with ethical dilemmas and opportunities to engage in immoral practices, and not break down under the pressure to try to gain an advantage over their opponents in deceptive and deceitful ways.

Oh, and for the record: REFS SUCK! … US AGAINST THE WORLD! … GO STEELERS!!!

Wow

A first time i saw a Steeler fan talking something good about Bellicheat.

Honestly, there is no way you can try to defend a person who should have been fired and ejected from the NFL after his cheating actions if the owner of that team had some principles or if the Commisioner had some guts.

assault and robbery

You grab a stranger after hes just visited the ATM, throw him to the ground and twist his nose around. Take his wallet and run off. If youre caught, your just cause was that you were just trying to tackle him and his wallet fell out of his pocket and into yours. Should work just dandy.
