C Maurkice Pouncey - Reserve
OLB James Harrison - Starter
SS Troy Polamalu - Starter
First let me say that I'm very surprised the Steelers only had three Pro Bowlers, especially with having only two on the league's best defense. I think the three that made it were very deserving, and it does not surprise me Pouncey is behind Mangold. Both are great, young players. Now on to the snubs and surprises.
Snubs:
ILB Lawrence Timmons: 126 Tackles, 3.0 Sacks, 2 Interceptions, 1 Forced Fumble and 9 Passes Defended.
Those who made it over him:
Ray Lewis (BAL): 128 Tackles, 2.0 Sacks, 2 Interceptions, 2 Forced Fumbles and 4 Passes Defended
Jerod Mayo (NE): 168 Tackles, 1.0 Sack, 0 Interceptions, 1 Forced Fumble, and 5 Passed Defended
Analysis: Mayo had the most tackles in the NFL, but he also doesn't have a lot of other players with a high number of tackles on his team. He is the best player on his defense, and there aren't many others making tackles out there. I cant argue too hard with the other picks, but Timmons was a definite snub.
WR Mike Wallace: 57 Receptions, 1152 Yards, 20.2 Average, 5.7 Yards After Catch, 9 Touchdowns
Those who made it over him:
Brandon Lloyd (DEN): 72 Receptions, 1375 Yards, 19.1 Average, 3.1 Yards After Catch, 10 Touchdowns
Reggie Wayne (IND): 102 Receptions, 1287 Yards, 12.6 Average, 3.9 Yards After Catch, 5 Touchdowns
Andre Johnson (HOU): 86 Receptions, 1216 Yards, 14.1 Average, 4.0 Yards After Catch, 8 Touchdowns
Dwayne Bowe (KC): 67 Receptions, 1094 Yards, 16.3 Average, 5.4 Yards After Catch, 15 Touchdowns
Analysis: The most obvious one here is Bowe. Wallace has a better year in everything except TD's, yet with Wayne's inclusion, TD's aren't the biggest barometer. To me, Wallace should have been in over Bowe or Wayne.
Other Snubs:
OLB Lamar Woodley
Analysis: Lamar is the best OLB not on the team, Casey is the best NT not on the team, and Rashard is the best RB not on the team, but none of them played better than those who made it necessarily. I think all 3 should be first alternates.
Interestingly, If Ben had played 16 games, he would have averaged out to:
4247 Yards, 22 Touchdowns, 94.3 Passer Rating, 61.3 Completion Percentage, and only 7 Interceptions
Analysis: Though those numbers probably wouldn't land him in the Pro Bowl, they would put him pretty close.
Who do you think was snubbed? Should Maurkice, James and Troy have made it?
