Ward Reports Polamalu Steelers MVP 2010

The Post Gazette is reporting that Hines Ward has stated Troy Polamalu has won the team MVP for 2010. The official announcement is scheduled for 3 PM today in Pittsburgh.

Star-divide

Without a doubt, Troy Polamalu is the team MVP and has been for quite some time. The Steelers record with 43 at safety and their record with anyone else at safety during Polamalu's tenure speaks volumes. With Troy Polamalu the Steelers have a legitimate shot at adding a 7th Lombardi to the offices at Heinz Field. WIthout him chances dwindle. In Troy We Trust!

Troy

Top 5 Steeler in the modern era, and still gathering steam.

Last person I knew who chewed tobacco was my uncle from the Ozarks. I don’t know what he chewed… probably Prince Albert.

My mom was known to have made the prank calls based on this brand of chew.

Good to hear

Although I’d give credit to Mendenhall as well.

No way on Mendy, we could have won the same amount of games near enough without him, due to Ben and the passing game.

Without Troy we don’t win as many, probably fighting for a wild card. He is the glue that holds our entire team together.

Are you kidding me?

We can’t rely on the passing game alone. Who was the one who carried the team while Ben was siting at home? It was Mendenhall and the Defense

And the defense, I’m just saying that although Mendy has had a nice year, he doesn’t deserve to be discussed as a team MVP candidate.

After Troy

In order, who deserves to be discussed then? Because you have to say Mendy deserves to be in the top 5…or no?

50s Top 5 Steeler MVPs 2010

1) Troy Polamalu
2) Mike Wallace
3) Rashard Mendenhall
4) Charlie Batch
5) Flo Adams

I think with Ben’s off season trials & tribulations and his 4 game suspension he is not a MVP candidate for 2010 regular season. 2010 post season MVP is another story :-)

Wow

I love that you put Charlie on there (can’t say enough about what he came in and did and with character), and Flozell deserves certainly “come-through” player of the year since he came in with some question marks surrounding him. But I think you have to keep either or both Timmons and Harrison in there…interesting absence.

1). Troy
2) Wallace
3) Harrison
4) Mendenhall
5) Pouncey

by Twell on Dec 30, 2010 6:15 PM EST up reply actions

Without Charlie Batch...

…the Steelers are 9-6 or 10-5 heading to Cleveland. His play and leadership were crucial in the early going. The only thing CB missed on all year was Pryor. Flo has been there week in and week out showing Pouncey the way. Harrison has been great as usual but no dominating performance like in years past…maybe he’s saving it for the playoffs? To me the most valuable LB has been Father Time 51 who I wrote off as too old last year. He has been tremendous.

You really think Batch was worth 1-2 wins early on?

He did nothing against Tenn, and the way that defense was playing against TB, they could have rolled out ARE in the wilcat and won that game.

We can speculate that his leadership was worth a win, but that is just speculation.

Charlie Got'em The W's

so I have to give him credit for them. Guys like Charlie, Farrior, Aaron Smith etc are huge in the locker room. CB really helped set the tone for this season. You could definitely argue against my 4 & 5 as they are sentimental choices. Troy is light years in front as #1. He was probably worth 3 or 4 W’s. No doubt the Steelers D played “lights out” early on and needed to. Dixon looked like a deer in the headlights.

I think he does

He was a monster for the first 4 weeks. We were running the ball in almost every play. Look at us now.

Quick which team would you lest like to have seen Troy drafted by. This is the 2003 draft up to Troy, would you trade him for anyone on the list? Easy answer. (format failure)

Cincinnati Bengals Carson Palmer QB one really good year out of 5 good years
Detroit Lions Charles Rogers WR out of football
Houston Texans Andre Johnson WR top 5 WR
New York Jets Dewayne Robertson DT out of football
Dallas Cowboys Terence Newman CB average
New Orleans Saints Johnathan Sullivan DT out of football
Jacksonville Jaguars Byron Leftwich QB backup QB Pitt.
Carolina Panthers Jordan Gross T solid
Minnesota Vikings Kevin Williams DT 1/2 of Williams wall
Baltimore Ravens Terrell Suggs OLB Could you imagine Troy and Reed in the same D backfield
Seattle Seahawks Marcus Trufant CB solid
St. Louis Rams Jimmy Kennedy DT back up for 3rd team Min
New England Patriots Ty Warren DE average
Chicago Bears Michael Haynes DT out of football
Philadelphia Eagles Jerome McDougle DE out of football

Of course you can’t know the needs of each team at the time, but how many of them have won or been in the running for D/OMVP for thier teams?

There are a few intriguing candidates...

Johnson, Williams, Suggs…but all are replaceable with guys already on, or have been on, the Steelers squad.

Troy is truly one of a kind, and will likely be a 1st ballot HoFer.

Funny, at first I took offense to smithology’s remark about “top 5 modern era Steeler”, thinking he should be higher, but on further reflection, I cant put him ahead of Bus, Lloyd, Woodson, Hines, or Ben. But it’s close, real close.

by PonchoBrew on Dec 30, 2010 4:19 PM EST up reply actions

Palmer before the injury...

looked like he was perhaps on his way to a special career.

Kevin Williams is excellent, but not the amazing difference maker that the Samoan is.

As to OLB, the Steelers find themselves pretty flush in that category.

Reed and Polamalu on the same team would approach unfair.

Pouncey in top 5

The rookie anchored this o-line to something approaching a respectable level.

but it is scary to imagine our offense without Wallace….
