Interesting Bits from Tomlin's Press Conference

Wow, Coach's weekly press conference opened a few things for me.

First and foremost, good news about Aaron Smith's recovery. I'm no expert, but the whole idea that he was cleared to lift weights sounds very optimistic to me. Tomlin also said there were no setbacks in his recovery and the Steelers hope that he will come back for the playoffs.

In other injury news, Flozell Adams' injury is described as a "mild high ankle sprain". I loved the phrase that "[the injury] could limit him in practice this week". Again, to me it sounds like he can still be able to play - which would be so good! Essex is the started if Flozell can't go.

I was very pleasantly surprised to learn that Shaun Suisham's 45-yard FG was actually from 2 yards beyond the range limit that was agreed based on the kick during warmups - and don't forget that he kicked that FG into the wind, same direction that Baltimore chose not to kick. To me that shows the trust our coaching staff has in our kicker and Squeezem's confidence and competitive spirit. Needless to say how important it was to get some points on the board after our first drive in the 2nd half. Changed the complection of the game.

After Heath Miller's injury, Tomlin said, his first choice for a "makeshift" tight end would be... Brett Keisel. Apparently for his great athleticism. I can't judge here whether this would be better than entering an extra offensive lineman or having, say, Hines Ward block for the running game, but it certainly is interesting and a testament to what Keisel means to this team.

Seriously, I believe that once we get a little healthier, the sky is the limit for this team.
