Steeler Fantasy Camp Question
So my buddy and I are planning to attend the 2010 Steeler Fantasy Camp. I was wondering if any of you all have ever gone and what it is like.
We are pumped about going, but had some specific questions. Any feedback you can give is appreciated
Specifically, here are our questions
1) I think I read there are 300 spots. I assume its first come, first served. I wonder what the chances are of not getting in if you apply early.
2) How strenuous are the workouts. We are in shitty shape and I have not done drills in a long time. Is this something we should be training for?
3) Is it worth the money? I read that people really like it.
4) Any insider "tips" from those who have gone before.
Thanks,
Your Steeler Brother

I went in 2007
My wife gave it to me as a present for turning 50. It was a blast.
Answers to your questions:
1. I think if you sign up right away you’ll get in.
2. You can make the drills as strenuous, or unstrenuous, as you want. Peer pressure is pretty powerful, so you don’t want to be a total slacker, but there were a few guys in their 60’s there, including one guy who was just coming off a round of chemotherapy. One of the younger guys, early 30’s, tore his achilles in the very first drill he did. I don’t think it would hurt to do a little light stretching leading up to the camp, but I wouldn’t worry about being in shape.
3. It’s well worth the money. The Steelers philosophy seems to be that they just try to break even, not actually profit from the camp. If you compare the cost to other pro and college camps, the Steelers is the lowest (or at least was when I went). They gave us a bag, a couple of shirts, a team photo, and later sent us a DVD of the camp. Also, there are prizes for the skills competitions on the last day.
4. Going with a buddy is a good idea. That way, you don’t have to room with a total stranger. Also, bring the stuff you want to have autographed. I was clueless and came with nothing, and so had to buy a ball and some other items to sign there. There will be at least ten or so ex-Steelers there, so you want to get there autographs. The ex-players are really great. Levon Kirkland was a bit of a hard-ass when he put people through linebacker drills, but it was all an act.
thanks
I am so excited about it. Like a kid waiting for Christmas.
